The Lion King Tiger Electronics Review | Video Games Thoughts - Duration: 4:24.

You may be wondering why I'm reviewing this in my Video Games Thoughts series.

You may be wondering, Diana, aren't you in law school?

Yes, yes I was.

In fact, I graduated from law school.

And you know what graduating law school made me think about?

Adulthood.

How quickly youth ends.

So what's the best way to celebrate graduating from law school?

A couple days after I took my last law school final exam, I found myself searching online

and I found these!

The Tiger Electronic games!

I loved these games when I was little.

I remember playing these way before I had a Playstation and thinking these were just

absolutely amazing.

I may have had others, but the Lion King, Bugs Bunny, and Aladdin ones are the ones

I remember, and I'm going to review them each.

Eventually, anyway.

First up is the Lion King Tiger Electronics game.

Positives

- Gameplay I wonder, if I remembered when this was bought

new, if it had an instruction manual.

Because at times I think this game needs a manual.

There are a lot of hazards that appear and it's not very clear to me how you can dodge

them.

The game seems to beep twice when you successfully dodge and beep once when you fail to dodge,

so I think I managed to dodge hazards when I used the arrow buttons.

But when I jumped it wasn't clear I really succeeded at anything.

Also, I think the pounce bottom on my copy might be broken, because nothing happens when

I press it.

Or maybe I just didn't understand when I needed to press this button.

Overall, I was really pleasantly surprised about the gameplay.

The biggest difficulty is understanding what to do, but honestly that's a problem that

even older console video games had.

Years ago games tended to reward the player just experimenting to see what would happen,

and despite my confusion, I was able to understand generally what I was supposed to do pretty

quickly.

Dodge and make sure you finish the level without losing your health to obstacles.

You don't do much, but dodging the hazards and seeing how high a score you can get is

fairly fun.

The four levels follow the story of the movie much more closely than I would have thought:

you have two levels as young Simba, the first level dodging hyenas and the second level

dodging wildebeests and hyenas, and two levels as adult Simba, one level where Timon and

Pumbaa throw Simba bugs and one level where Simba has to dodge Scar and the hyenas.

The game even has little cutscenes, showing for instance when Simba is born, or later

on when Simba meets Nala again.

It's pretty faithful to the movie given how limited the technology used here is.

- Artwork The little sprites also look quite nice and

very faithful to the animated movie.

There isn't too much artwork to these games, since it's just some sprites on the plastic

background, but the background is well drawn and the sprites look like the characters.

Neither Positive Nor Negative

-Music I genuinely didn't remember how screechy the

music could sound.

Honestly it doesn't sound that bad.

It made a loud screech once I put the batteries in, but once the music starts properly, the

music is quite pleasant, especially given the technological limitations.

About the same song plays in each level.

It isn't the kind of music I would go back and listen to independently of playing the

game like I do with other video game music, but again this has more limitations than other

video game music on a proper console.

Given what the maker had to work with, the music is enjoyable and catchy.

Really the only part of the music I will criticize is the music that plays when you beat the

final level.

You'd imagine very enjoyable music to play at the end, but it's the screechiest music

in the entire game.

So yeah, I was ultimately pleasantly surprised.

The Lion King Tiger Electronic game surpassed my expectations.

It would be completely unfair to compare this to any modern video game, but it is a pleasant

little time waster and especially for a young child, particularly a young child who likes

the Lion King, this would be very entertaining.
