TALKING ABOUT GREETINGS
When you greet someone,
keep in mind the setting
and relationship.
If you are a student
you would not greet your classmates formally.
If you are at a business meeting
you would not greet
the other co-workers
or colleagues
too casually.
In the United States
and in The United Kingdom,
it is proper
to shake hands
when you greet
someone in a formal setting.
If you are greeting
a friend or relative,
you might give them a hug,
a kiss on the cheek,
or a nod.
You might even give them a fist bump.
If someone asks how you are, they don't
always want an answer.
The cashier at the grocery store might say,
"How are you?"
It is considered a greeting.
She doesn't really want to know.
"I'm fine, thank you." is a good reply.
The same can be true in a business setting.
Friends and family
are always interested
in your well being.
However you greet someone,
you cannot go wrong
if you smile!

TALKING ABOUT INTRODUCTIONS
Introducing someone is similar to
greeting someone.
Know if you can be informal
or
if you have to be formal.
An informal greeting may occur
between friends or family.
A formal greeting would occur at a business
function or when you introduce two people
at a formal event.
What should you do if you forget someone's name?
Ask your friend to introduce themselves.
That way, you can save yourself from feeling bad or embarrassed.
We cannot possibly remember every person we have ever met!
A good way to remember names is to associate them with something or someone.
For instance, you may meet someone and you
recall that you have a relative with the same name
or they have the same name as your favorite movie star.
This is a very helpful technique.
