between campus police and traditional police
although training procedures differ from school to school and state to state it's
important to understand that campus police training may not focus on certain
kinds of policing such as traffic stops as much as traditional police forces
campus police training may also emphasize cultural diversity and
sensitivity more than traditional police if campus police are unsworn or unarmed
they may receive more training on non-lethal force procedures or
de-escalation techniques other types of training provided to campus police that
aren't normally offered to traditional police include Clery
Title IX HIPAA and FERPA compliance the goal is not to make a lot of arrests and
write a lot of police reports the goal is prevention by dealing with kids doing
presentations in classrooms doing crime prevention site surveys and assessments
on campus the goal of campus security and police is to reduce or eliminate

agencies professions and the university community that University Police meets
the highest standards of professionalism campus police jurisdiction campus police
and many of the cities across the country service their campus direct
lines and security however they are full-fledged police officers that can
and will respond to issues around the state when called upon
Clery Act the Clery Act requires colleges and universities that receive
federal funding to disseminate a public annual security report or ASR ASRs must
also include policy statements or guarding but not limited to crime
reporting campus facility security and access law enforcement authority
incidents of alcohol and drug use and the prevention of in response to sexual
assault domestic or dating violence and stalking the Clery Act forces university
police departments to document every situation and report it to the public
the offender's name is almost always used in these reports the victim is
usually published as well however there are protections in place where a victim
can choose to remain anonymous most commonly reported crimes
among the various types of on-campus crimes reported in 2014 there were
13,500 burglaries other commonly reported
crimes included forcible sex offenses 6,700 incidents and
motor vehicle theft 2,900 incidents
