So I heard you were a farmer in Haiti, is this true?

Yes I was a farmer and we had a wide variety of crops in our farm

What kind of crops did you have?

We had corn, we had cotton, we had cocoa beans

So after this whole earthquake in 2010, how much did it truly affect you?

After the earthquake, our farm was completely destroyed, our soil was eroded... Wiped out all our crops

Devastating story...

You guys, I believe, lived in a farm or a slum because majority of the population lives in that kind of situation

How did your community get affected by this?

We were all devastated. They all relied on us for food and we couldn't provide for them.

People are poor and on the streets

So now how do you manage to get all the food that you need?

The Red Cross has helped us get food care packages for our town, so that helped us a lot

Truly a devastating story...

I mean the fact that you have to depend on others is... wow

I heard that your brother, I believe it's your brother, who works as a miner, but something happened to him. What happened?

Yeah, he was working in one of the mining facilities in one of the mountains and when the earthquake happened,

it trapped him and his crew members down there, and a rock fell on his leg and crippled him

Were you guys able to get him back out?

Yeah, they safely rescued him, but he can't save his leg anymore

So the paralysis is permanent damage I'm supposing?

Yeah, his life's been terrible.

I see I see I see

So after the whole situation with the erosion in the mining facility, how exactly did your brother respond to this?

You know he was... Stuff happens you know. It was truly a tragedy

So there were some issues with a lot of people actually

not only focusing to slums or anything, but that there's a lot of food scarcity or there's not a lot of water supply

How does your family go about that now?

Since there's less amounts of water, we have to still rely on the Red Cross

there's many people drinking unsanitary water

Well, it was nice to meet you. Thank you so much for the interview!

So how is the situation in Haiti right now?

So right now, the resources that we're using are really depleted because

back in 2010, we were hit with a massive earthquake which caused

a lot of damage to our country, so now we have to use our resources greatly to be able to rebuild our community

Can you explain your situation currently in your house, slum, or dwelling?

So, the water system that was set were really unsanitary because of the deforestation that's going on

which causes soil erosion, and will get into our water systems

So you're a beach volleyball player from Haiti, I believe, correct?

How is that actually affecting your society or your community so far?

It's affecting us that we're not really able to do the things that we used to do before

everybody's just trying to get by

Can you explain exactly how you go about life now, now that this whole earthquake happened?

For example, how do you get food, how do you get water, how do you get, you know, basic necessities?

We just take it day by day. We go out and try to find whatever resources we can to be able to make ends meet really

Well it was nice meeting you! Thank you very much
