Well, being a previous member of Singing Men Of Ohio which was, in my time, a predominantly

white choir, BSCPB (Black student cultural programming board)…I just joined this new

organization on campus called Salaam, which is about…Ethiopians and Eritreans… you

just, you are open to, and you are exposed to different cultures and different backgrounds…just

different people every day.

I experience diversity in my daily life at Ohio University by…for example, my roommate

is from Appalachia, I am from Dayton, Ohio…I am experiencing…His dad is a coal miner…I

get to hear his story from coal mining all the time…how his life and his different…you

know, anything from political views to you know…all sorts of…social views and everything…I

have experienced that.

My teachers are from all over the world…I find it fascinating to hear about their experiences

and…you know… their ideas, and here at Ohio University I go to a coffee shop and

I hear two people speaking in a different language.

Do I know what they are saying?

No, but it is opening to understand that it's bigger than just your bubble.

It's always expanding.

In my daily life at Ohio University I experience diversity through my interactions in my classroom,

project partners.

Also through the friendships that I have formed with people from different countries…my

housemate is Bulgarian, my closest girlfriends are from Somalia…from Bolivia,from Jamaica,

from Guyana, and the list goes on…so.

Okay…If resources were not a barrier, I would probably make it a requirement to take

a class that you are interested in that doesn't identify with you at all…just to learn about

a different religion or class or any of that type of stuff, and I would make them…like

in that class, go to different like, clubs…at least like three clubs or three, like talk

shows that aren't something they identify with I guess.
