how do you stay motivated pretty much
look on strava and see who what person
is writing i'm i'm a pretty struggle
holla kind of guy and I see somebody
going out there smashing 50 60 70 miles
kind of motivates me to be like oh shoot
was my word my fitness and compared to
this guy is averaging like 20 miles an
hour 4,000 feet of climbing and it's
like motivating to me how do you deal
with burnout it's hard
well when you've just written so much
and it's about the middle end of the
year and it's like you don't even want
to go racing more i kinda just stopped
writing altogether do sometimes I like
cross-training go hiking go play some
football with some guys play basketball
go to the gym
anything that doesn't you know have to
do with peddling or riding it like how
do you get motivated for the season
I don't know it depends
during the winter it was really cold and
I lost on the motivation but now it's
just actually get out there and on a
bike and wanted to do better than that
cheers and trying to the next level
that's my motivation
do you have anything that you set in
your mind like hold that motivation like
how do you see the motivation throughout
the season
I'm still fairly new cyclist so keeping
it throughout the season so much my
second full season and just begun
so my attachment same questions couple
of months when when burnouts going to be
hard to overcome with another great
question how do you deal with Bono
I it's only january i'm slightly there
so will seek you know racing yesterday
and in Santa Barbara and six hours in
the car and then back out here at seven
in the morning and time with their
families
it's just gonna be tough but I'm I'm a
competitor and try to do the best that I
can and doing the best what's really
driving for just get to the next level
how do you get motivated or other you
what things you hold your mind to keep
that motivation throughout the season
without the right yeah so when I'm if I
raised it to more motivator since its
not I wasn't racing that probably
wouldn't be as motivated to keep movie
will race how do you deal with burnout
don't train as hard as most probably and
I take breaks whenever I can and I
should wear I feel like it i take a
break and kind of how I do it I just
yeah Bernard is just some guys gotta
look at sure
how do you get motivated for the
upcoming race sometimes I think we had
how I get motivated for something is
that are definitely don't want to be out
there suffering you know in a crib or a
road race and I've been there I've done
I know how it suffer and so I think
that's one motivation right there and
then I want to be competitive enough to
where I could hang out hang with with
the great the leaders but the head
writers so I'm not like lacking in
wasting money so that's kind of a
motivation right there and then you know
just come riding with other people is a
good motivation for me and it gets me
prepped for the race eat what one thing
do you hold in your mind to keep that
motivation is not like a goal or like
yeah I got specific races I prep for so
when I'm cooking for those specific
races that is a goal and it's my
motivation that I have to do good there
and then I think that's it once you know
you you're gonna compete at this race
and it's one you really want to do at I
think that's a really good motivation
just to have a like you set a goal a
good goal in mind
yeah how do you deal with bone out the
other seasons how I deal with burnout is
is I'll all if I know that I'm feeling a
little tired i will actually just kind
of like I'll take a week do something
different go for a hike by cycle a
little bit but maybe you know spend only
spend maybe for an hour a day that no
more than an hour and a half to two
hours at all and i will ya hike swim go
to the beach just relax maybe do a
little tune-up on the on anything you're
having issues with during that week or
we can have to use your resting legs to
like get in the gym to some upper body
stuff do some my legs like that

HOW I AFFORD LUXURY HOTELS | Travel in Her Shoes | My Tricks on How to Stay at 5 Star Resorts - Duration: 11:49.
Hi! This is Aggie Lal— Travel in Her Shoes.
And today I'm super excited about today because I'm gonna tell you
how I afford staying in luxury resorts and fancy hotels.
And, yes, I'm a travel blogger, and I sometimes get to do it for free.
But that was not always the case and sometimes not every hotel wants to work with me.
So I still use my few tricks to really enjoy my stay.
Like I have to say, I've stayed on private island hotels.
I've stayed where you get to feed giraffes.
And the prices for these hotels were anything from $700 to $2500 a night.
Just to give you an idea what I mean by luxury.
I know you can stay even more than that.
I haven't so far. I don't think I have.
But I have a few tips for you in case you ever want to stay in a hotel like this
And you probably think that you can't afford it.
Well, maybe we can work on it.
All right, I have to tell you the truth— I used to be one of these snobbish travelers
that thought that the real travel and the real experience
has to be budgeted. That people that stay in five-star hotels
and they say that they travel to a country— like they don't know anything—
That's not real travel.
Well... It might not be. But staying in a 5-star hotel does not
necessarily mean that's your only experience from that country.
So I like to do both. I like to do both
getting to know the locals— that's I guess my #1 reason why I travel.
But staying in a five-star hotel, it's an experience in itself.
Its beautiful architecture, the design— both interior and exterior—
the pools, it's very pleasing and
there's something to be said about the beauty
that we, as humans, like to be surrounded by.
And that doesn't necessarily mean luxury in itself.
It's not like you feel, "Ahh... I love this TV. It's so pretty."
or "This feels rich."
It's just everything is thought of and aesthetically pleasing
and very pleasant to hang-out around, like be part of.
I was never the kind of a girl that was dreaming about her Chanel bag
and never really wanted to have fancy Louis Vuitton shoes
or whatever you can get from Louis Vuitton.
The brands don't really impress me at all
But staying in beautiful place
or being surrounded by nature
that's been composed or worked into a beautiful beach
or a mountain
That's always been my bucket list.
That's always something that I work towards
and makes me very happy when I get to accomplish it.
First, I would say, I personally hate the in-between.
I either like to stay in a really really nice place
or really basic Homestay or Airbnb
or something that's like up to $100.
In Cuba, I stayed with a family for $12.
In Australia, we slept on a camper van for a week.
I loved that. I think it's basic. You have zero expectations.
You're happy if you take a shower that day.
But that way, it lets me save money
and stay in a luxury resort a few days later on.
Because, the amount of money I spend
for that amount of two weeks,
It's the same as if I spend
the entire two weeks staying at mediocre resort.
And the mediocre resorts, it's usually—
The pool is not quite there.
There is no view.
The bed's not comfortable.
Stuff are not cl—things are not clean.
Service is not great.
Food is okay.
I just rather stay with a family
or a super cheapy hotel that's usually family-based.
Super basic.
That's usually way better vibe than a medium hotel.
So that's my advice number one.
Because if I feel that if you stay at super cheap places
then you can really afford to do the expensive ones.
I did it in Guatemala where I stayed in super basic places
then we stayed in a fancy hotel in Belize.
Same in Australia. Same in Africa.
That's been my—that's the way I travel.
I usually avoid the medium hotels to be honest.
And the ratio is you're like,
"Whoa, Aggie! Okay, so you can save by staying
by sleeping in a camper van. But then—
it's still super expensive to stay in a fancy resort."
Well, my rule is
If you are to stay in fancy resort.
You should stay there. That's what I do.
I don't have much parents.
No one pays for my stay.
We have to both work. Me and Michael have to work for this.
We work hard-earned money to stay in these places.
I totally don't get people—
I mean, good for you if you can afford it—
But I don't get how you can stay seven days in a fancy resort
and check-in at 11 P.M.
Or not stay there and do all the activities around.
So the way I travel: I stay cheap.
Get to visit the entire area around it.
And then when I show up at the resort.
I am the—I bet you—
I'm the first person to check in
and the last one to leave
and I won't go anywhere.
Like, I don't care what's outside of the island.
I'm there for a day or two
and sometimes three
I've never stayed longer than three days at a fancy resort.
I just can't afford it. I can't imagine
just spending a week at this point of my life—
YET
I hope it will change— HINT HINT fancy hotels—
you can invite me for longer.
But bet your bottom dollar, I'm not leaving anywhere.
Like I'm staying there for sure for this entire time.
Just enjoying every single facility that's offered.
And I guarantee you after two days of sitting in your room,
even if it's the most beautiful, you're like
"Okay, now I need to change
I need to see what's out there."
And then you move.
Okay, speaking of check-in.
You usually can check-in around 3 P.M.
Maybe 4 P.M.
My piece of advice is if you can and if it's a fancy resort,
organize it so you can show up at the resort—
for example, I've done it a few times—
6 A.M. or 7 A.M. in the morning
and I apologize and I'm like
"I am really sorry.
But this is the way I've planned it
or the way I'm just showing up from the airport.
I know I can check-in until 4 P.M.
I don't wanna pay to check-in until 4.
But is it okay if I just hang out the pool
or enjoy and grab some lunch
or just leave my suitcase and I'll just be around."
I have never—
Because they are really nice resorts,
they will never tell you
now that you showed up
you have to go and leave.
They will always take care of you
because you're technically just showing up
before the check-in is allowed.
And it's totally fine.
This is a little sketchy, I know.
But it crossed my mind by accident
because the hotel transfer that we stayed in Australia
on Hayman Island
only offered to be picked up from mainland.
To get the boat, you could either go at 6 A.M
in the morning or 5 P.M.
So I'm like,
"I'm not going on 5 P.M.
and checking-in at 6 by the time I get to the island
because I'm gonna lose the entire day.
So I had to go early, and they just took care of us.
I'm like, "What if it worked in other places?"
And it has.
It does extend your stay a little bit.
Same at the check-out.
Say, "Would it be okay?"
and of course, it's at the discretion of the hotel.
So it's not like
I want you to take advantage of the hotels.
Cause it's not really cool.
But if you ask them,
"Hey, is that okay if we hang-out 'cause
we happen to arrive early,
or we happen wait for a flight?"
Or whatever.
And no one really cares if there's an extra person
at the pool for another two hours.
As long as you don't overstay and overuse their hospitality,
it's totally cool.
I hope (laugh).
I don't think— I'd say try to go out of season.
In-season prices are crazy.
I remember staying at Sri Panwa in Thailand
where their villa was $2500 per night—in-season.
And only $900 out-of-season.
So that's not too bad.
It's less than half-price.
One thing to keep in mind, of course:
It's always cheaper to stay
for example, on a fancy resort in Thailand or the Philippines
than it is to stay in the Maldives.
It's just because of the currency there, for instance.
Something to keep in mind
If you're dreaming
The quality of the hotel is just as good if not better.
Another tip that I can tell you is
to check out the website called Hotwire.com
and this is website where hotels
don't advertise themselves so low.
But they might still have some rooms available
that they put out there.
So you go to Hotwire's website and showing out
"Whoa, we have a hotel in Thailand or
on Phuket Island,
and it's $700.
It has 3 pools, 200 rooms,
and a golf course.
We're not gonna tell you what the name is,
but our price is $500 down from $2000"
advertising from the hotel.
And that's all you know from Hotwire.
Well, this is a lot of information,
because sometimes you have no guarantee
whether this is the exact same place
but based on that information,
you can drag down go to Booking.com
and find these places and find the location
and try to figure it out.
My biggest core is—
That works every time whenever
I stay on an island
especially when the hotel is
the only hotel on the island.
This totally worked for me a few times.
And I still remember when I was looking
at the prices for One&Only on Hayman Island, Australia.
And the price online was $1200.
I went to Hotwire.com and it said,
"There's a hotel on Hayman Island,
we're not gonna tell you what the name is
but it's $700"
It just happens that One&Only is the only hotel
on Hayman Island.
Because it's a private island.
So you have probably 99% chance
that you're gonna book this hotel.
'Cause that's very little risk,
knowing that there's only one hotel
and sure enough, it was One&Only.
So make sure you check Hotwire
because the prices are enormous
like $500—it's almost 50% off.
And next,
Be careful with transfers.
Again, there are hotels that
charged us, I don't remember,
up to $600 to a transfer
to a private island.
So it's always worth checking
or look on TripAdvisor or Expedia
to find out whether there is a cheaper way
of getting to and from the island, independently from the hotel.
Basically, whenever hotels offer transfers
or offer some sort of service,
like taxi, or anything really,
you're gonna pay premium.
So if you want to avoid that,
try to find a way to figure out
your own way of transport.
And I have been to islands that
you can only get by boat or helicopter,
and they offer helicopter.
But it's cheaper to rent a helicopter by yourself
than to rent it through a hotel, of course.
So just to keep something in mind.
Alright, one more thing.
I always always always travel with my own snacks
And it has nothing to do with staying in fancy resort.
I just hate being hungry.
I don't eat dairy. I don't eat meat.
I'm trying to avoid gluten or wheat in general.
That limits my choices by a lot.
I've just been in too many situations
where I was really hungry.
So I always bring some snacks with me
and it's proven very helpful for me so far.
I guess that's it.
These are my tips
of how I afford to stay in those fancy places
all around the world.

Yet Another La La Land Video - Duration: 13:55.
Hello, I know I'm late to the hype train.
I saw La La Land for the first time yesterday, and I literally cannot stop
thinking about this film.
I am absolutely in love with this movie.
If you've not seen it yet,
really... please... please go and watch it.
It's so good and i'm going
to talk about it now because I have all
these thoughts in my head and I just
need to put them out and *aaaaaaah*
I watched it twice yesterday: I went to
the cinema and then I could not stop
thinking about it for the rest of the day.
So I think it was almost midnight
I started watching it again and I'm so obsessed...
Obviously as it's only been one day since I saw it,
this review is going to be quite
emotional and emotionally centred.
I have so much, I wrote all of this... just... so.... *emotional moan*
Okay! I'm going to divide this video into two parts basically.
First i'm going to give a kind of
*mostly* spoiler-free review
discussing the different themes, so not really the
plot itself... That's going to be quite short.
Then I'm going to talk more in detail
about why i love it and obviously it's going
to be spoiler heavy and stuff so PLEASE go
see La La Land if you haven't yet, it's so good...
SO I watched dodie's [gotta keep that lower-case branding] video on La La Land
And she divided it into different
themes from the film and I thought that
was a great idea i'm going to steal that!
I havent picked the same themes exactly
so it should be a bit different... hopefully.
For me, the main themes are dreams, success vs. fame,
letting go of the past, kind of...
Hollywood and music of course.
I'm really trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible.
It's both, in my opinion, an hommage and a
critique of the Golden Age of Hollywood
and I think it really hits home because a lot of us have
grown up with these films.
So it's very nostalgic but it also has a twist on it.
All i'm going to say about the story...
There are two main characters, each
with an individual dream. They meet as
they're trying to achieve these dreams
and they try to achieve together.
Also, the music is great....
That was a review.... Just watch it, PLEASE, it's so good.
Now onto the juicy stuff: talking about the
film itself. SPOILERS!1!11 So if you haven't
seen it go see it!! *shh* Don't watch this please.
I want you to watch it please, it's so good.
It's also online...
I'm not condoning watching things illegally but just saying....
As I said, the themes are dreams,
success vs. fame, letting go of the past, Hollywood and music.
I didn't include love in this list... It's definitely a big part of
the film but if you removed it,
the message would still be the same so
in my opinion it isn't exactly a theme, but love
definitely plays a big part in the story, obviously.
The main theme: dreams!
As the film is built upon these two
characters, you really see two ways of
achieving your dreams - both Mia with
wanting to become an actress and Seb
with starting his Jazz Lounge.
We can really see how different things can affect how
dreams will be carried on for the rest of our lives.
For example, Mia's aunt plays a
huge role in what she's wanted to become.
And when she used her aunt as an example in The Fools who Dream
When she says "A bit of madness is key to give us new colours to see",
you need to go through all these troubles and things to achieve your dream,
a big message from the film.
Next theme: success vs. fame.
We see through Seb and Mia two really
different ways to achieve your dreams.
From Mia's point of view, doing it for her
child-self, and her aunt as well,
always keeping that in mind when going forwards.
Seb on the other hand fluctuates between wanting to achieve different things.
he has the main dream of having to
plunge but the ways of getting there
change a lot of what you want to do
perfectly see the complex which is
happening between me and said there's
also have another think I'm inside my
during the argument seem
it really doesn't know what you want she
does a little kind of felt that for a
moment which me and criticise the bar
but in my opinion even if he's like
doing all these things which are history
he always had the dream in mind what I
find is very important to do if you have
a dream that you can take detours and
you can go off the top but as long as
you have that mainstream in mind all the
way along that's what's important
I definitely don't completely agree
before but there are other ways to
achieve that without playing music but
she doesn't like it's definitely not
license plate has been just giving up
going through hell together as he still
had with main goal line this whole
argument really makes you wonder like
what is your own definition of success
this is doing something in your field
something with you enjoy but that you're
expected to do specific shown in this
quote from the argument
this is a dream guys like me they worked
their whole life to be in something that
was successful that people like I want
to especially with guys like me you can
always compare yourself to others and
pay the top for yourself but sometimes
you're maybe not really living up to
your dream your existing but people are
expecting you to do this is supposed to
be about 30 her she is not fitting in
spite of all that's all she wants to
break free
she doesn't care about other people
think she just talked to John
Superfriends achieve things and let go
of everything that's imposed upon her
that's all i have right now for the
customers the same i told you this is a
very well construction it was asking
then migraine stuff and want to share
university student thing together and
letting go of the past and Hollywood
there's a connection is we're both said
to me I know that you cheaper dream they
need to let go of the past and in this
case the relationship it's really kind
of waiting for you question for your
priorities are and what you personally
won't like we're still not necessarily
thing that you have to always put your
dreams first before other people but in
their case of versed on me and that was
what was that for button it really is
for you to make the decision not to
saying your dream should be more than
most important that
that's not the message at least in my
opinion this brain goes to the ultimate
montage scene of like oh my gosh oh my
gosh 444 seen my finger is a plate
what this element to it but that's not
the main purpose of the scene on polish
I don't know of that part of the film
it's mostly given a Hollywood you view
on 13 would have been had been told in
the film let me elaborate it's this
there were all the key events of me is
like leading up to her instead of
putting off the first 24 she said
getting an apartment with him covering
job performing her play and then the
addition after they have broken up with
the event still have taken place just
this point she's doing them with said
like going to parents and guardians the
natural lesbian they're all events that
take place that's not a lie and self but
this have all these event but there's
one place between and out there making
the film about me is like filled in all
the blanks with what viewers expect to
see and what they want to see this goes
on like in the montage and fight them on
terms of movies i mean these things
likely happen but with me as a husband
like her real husband not so and that
leads up to the point where she comes
and visits said lunch with her husband
and can be talking about the logo
oh except the logo for me he's not
holding on to the past but he's
acknowledging that me help them get
there and then but not of the end plate
of such sorry the full makes me very
emotional there looking out for each
other and their knowledge and the
they've gotten to this point partially
back to each other thoughts
it was also very important for them to
go under separate paths and puts up to
achieve your dreams so all types back
together to dream dream dream dream
Melissa dreamless of all the next thing
manifested in music oh my go the music
in my opinion is not a main seen the
phone but is definitely plays a huge
role
and obviously just gonna keep going
through the tracks separately starting
off with the mother they are some
literally the entire film thumbs off and
one song and dance beautifully and 21st
wasn't sure it just feels like they kind
of Hollywood cliché but so much more
and definitely touches on the struggles
of achieving the dream Thomas beautiful
so that's so beautiful please go see you
like are you watching this album they
want to watch it again like this week
sometime because there's so many more
thoughts which are going to come
this is all very basic i know i just see
it yesterday for the first time so
mostly very emotional someone in the
crowd all my golf but from the songs
it really doesn't make you feel that
Hollywood dream and hope and it just
leave it so well I'm not music like head
for as you can probably help but it's
just so good and it makes you feel loved
the emotions such a good son charge of
the drums and trumpets having some rocks
into remember it convey the idea of like
guessing that's all
afterwards and going after your drink
with me tell me creepy so I definitely
want to have discussions that because
this is all very wrongly I know so much
they haven't learned about here and then
basically doing these videos pretty much
been me and the team so beautiful so
beautiful
not really about them finding each other
more than rising together and really
take over the world going for that
training and taking steps to achieve us
this time staying here such along
no automatic own literally just makes me
cry every time so gonna close to go
through this one
yeah just customers that Hollywood dream
so well
all the songs top a very similar theme
in my opinion dream which obviously that
only dr. the next song which is cool to
drink this all the phone lead-up to the
media that really of the embodiment of
never letting go to your dream going
after them and inspirational like I
don't know before I wrap things up
because we're going to and criticism
because despite me being very most all
have already seen a few days which
should be little and i'm also gonna
reply to a few things that other people
said which I don't agree with less talk
talk them below
I need to stop looking at the viewfinder
there's something on pictures of the
songs like not really being memorable
enough iconic of usually happen musical
first of all I disagree i love the music
in this film definitely logs grounds
like other musical musical stopped into
films because that was not really wonder
is for me it's not on musical makers
into a film or even a musical the
hospital to be so more Phil looked at
using music to convey certain things its
own thing they do agree however the
things that for example Donald relations
that the opening score and the love
music didn't really feel ground enough
in my opinion if the opening scene has
been grandiose had all these Broadway
singers it would have really emphasize
the realness of said Mia this is the
response to do the only said that it was
kind of you know that phone if everyone
else that really do voices and they
didn't I don't agree with up for me
personally popping that contrast between
seven media who played by actors who
aren't trained singers so they can
definitely good thing but they could be
anyone's just thought it'd be nice to
have a contrast between the background
characters which will have beautiful
voices
like wow how ground where a musical 17
me and who would have been much more
humble down to earth again finally last
thing slightly problematic
I guess I'm having fun with so much good
job and not include that many people
color specifically main characters have
been honestly said that be interesting
color i could it be nice
what's your opinion pushes down below I
have made up my mind completely 53 feel
like with a shame
ok let's rock around the question of I
enjoy it so well it really have inspired
me like it's quite difficult to those
that may be but this film really have
like given me new hope they don't want
to work hard and set up things aren't
perfect
things aren't like in the Hollywood film
things take effort and takes like
struggle and having to let go things to
achieve your dreams and by the way I'm
one thing have i don't quite agree with
of ideas like needing a dream
Charlie if elected videos about those
but so important like you can change
your dreams in the middle of your life
you don't have to keep the thing green
for your life anyway
music so good such an emotional story
haven't talked that much of a seven the
actual story like their love story but
just to help each other grow and so it's
so beautiful he goes to get it happen
and your portion is the Walshes should
have seen inviting you've only told me
family functions by memory card is
really close to running out of space i'm
going to have to leave you know thank
you for auction
give me your opinion the on all along

U S World Population Control Programme Revealed – War and Famine - Duration: 8:17.
U.S. World Population Control Programme Revealed War and Famine.
by Edward Morgan.
In researching for another report TruePublica unearthed a database dating back to the mid
1990s and although quite widely publicised some years ago, provides astonishing insight
into how dangerous American foreign policy has developed over the decades.
This particular article appeared as part of a feature in the December 8, 1995 issue of
Executive Intelligence Review, and was circuclated extensively by the Schiller Insitute Food
for Peace Movement entitled: Who Is Responsible for the World Food Shortage?
The article quotes from a classified report and summizes that a plan, formulated by Henry
Kissinger was adopted by the US administration in the 1970s under President Gerald Ford
to use population control methods in regions around the world where threats to their own
economic or political power was likely emerging.
The article, now over twenty years old, explains in detail the plan to starve millions and
keep many countries in a cycle of perpetual emerging nation status through famine or war
or both.
At the base of the article we have included more links as supporting evidence to Joseph
Bredas 1995 article and attached former World Bank staff Peter Koenigs latest piece
on Washingtons Financial Genocide of India.
Kissingers 1974 Plan for Food Control Genocide by Joseph Brewda
Dec. 8, 1995
On Dec. 10, 1974, the U.S. National Security Council under Henry Kissinger completed a
classified 200-page study, National Security Study Memorandum 200: Implications of Worldwide
Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests. The study falsely claimed that
population growth in the so-called Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) was a grave threat
to U.S. national security.
Adopted as official policy in November 1975 by President Gerald Ford, NSSM 200 outlined
a covert plan to reduce population growth in those countries through birth control,
and also, implicitly, war and famine.
Brent Scowcroft, who had by then replaced Kissinger as national security adviser (the
same post Scowcroft was to hold in the Bush administration), was put in charge of implementing
the plan.
CIA Director George Bush was ordered to assist Scowcroft, as were the secretaries of state,
treasury, defense, and agriculture.
The bogus arguments that Kissinger advanced were not original.
One of his major sources was the Royal Commission on Population, which King George VI had created
in 1944 to consider what measures should be taken in the national interest to influence
the future trend of population. The commission found that Britain was gravely threatened
by population growth in its colonies, since a populous country has decided advantages
over a sparsely-populated one for industrial production. The combined effects of increasing
population and industrialization in its colonies, it warned, might be decisive in its effects
on the prestige and influence of the West, especially effecting military strength
and security. NSSM 200 similarly concluded that the United
States was threatened by population growth in the former colonial sector.
It paid special attention to 13 key countries in which the United States had a special
political and strategic interest: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand,
the Philippines, Turkey, Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia.
It claimed that population growth in those states was especially worrisome, since it
would quickly increase their relative political, economic, and military strength.
For example, Nigeria: Already the most populous country on the continent, with an
estimated 55 million people in 1970, Nigerias population by the end of this century is projected
to number 135 million.
This suggests a growing political and strategic role for Nigeria, at least in Africa. Or
Brazil: Brazil clearly dominated the continent demographically. The study warned of a
growing power status for Brazil in Latin America and on the world scene over the next
25 years.
Food as a weapon
There were several measures that Kissinger advocated to deal with this alleged threat,
most prominently, birth control and related population-reduction programs.
He also warned that population growth rates are likely to increase appreciably before
they begin to decline, even if such measures were adopted.
A second measure was curtailing food supplies to targetted states, in part to force compliance
with birth control policies: There is also some established precedent for taking account
of family planning performance in appraisal of assistance requirements by AID [U.S. Agency
for International Development] and consultative groups.
Since population growth is a major determinant of increases in food demand, allocation of
scarce PL 480 resources should take account of what steps a country is taking in population
control as well as food production.
In these sensitive relations, however, it is important in style as well as substance
to avoid the appearance of coercion.
Mandatory programs may be needed and we should be considering these possibilities
now, the document continued, adding, Would food be considered an instrument of national
power?
Is the U.S. prepared to accept food rationing to help people who cant/wont control
their population growth?
Kissinger also predicted a return of famines that could make exclusive reliance on birth
control programs unnecessary.
Rapid population growth and lagging food production in developing countries, together
with the sharp deterioration in the global food situation in 1972 and 1973, have raised
serious concerns about the ability of the world to feed itself adequately over the next
quarter of century and beyond, he reported.
The cause of that coming food deficit was not natural, however, but was a result of
western financial policy: Capital investments for irrigation and infrastucture and the organization
requirements for continuous improvements in agricultural yields may be beyond the financial
and administrative capacity of many LDCs.
For some of the areas under heaviest population pressure, there is little or no prospect for
foreign exchange earnings to cover constantly increasingly imports of food.
It is questionable, Kissinger gloated, whether aid donor countries will be prepared
to provide the sort of massive food aid called for by the import projections on a long-term
continuing basis. Consequently, large-scale famine of a kind not experienced for several
decadesa kind the world thought had been permanently banished, was foreseeablefamine,
which has indeed come to pass.
