Wellcome to another MyTrendyPhone Repair!
In this video,
you can see our technician performing
the broken LCD screen replacement on OnePlus 5.
You can attempt the repair yourself
but we strongly advise you
to take your device to the repair shop.
This is a repair of a moderate difficulty
in real time it takes about 20 minutes to complete.
You will need only a couple of basic tools
like spudgers, tweezers and a Phillips screwdriver.
As always start by switching the device off,
and removing the SIM tray.
Also, make sure that the battery is below 25% of charge.
Now, remove the two bottom screws,
and then slide the thin metal opening tool
in between the back cover and the front panel.
When you manage to separate the two,
don't pull too hard before you disconnect
the headphone jack and the USB-C cable.
Remove the metal shield,
and unplug the two connectors
to free the back cover from the rest of the phone.
Now, remove all the screws that are holding the motherboard,
and start unplugging the flex cables
and the black antenna wire from the motherboard.
Proceed with removing the screws,
and the bottom loudspeaker assembly.
With tweezers and the nylon spudger
gently pry-up the daughter board,
which is connected to the motherboard
vía the extension flex cable.
Then you can remove them both,
but pay attention to the black antenna wire.
Now you can transfer all the remaining parts
to the new LCD assembly.
Removing the battery is a fairly easy task
thanks to the pull-tab,
but be careful not to tear it
or the adhesive strip underneath the battery,
because you can reuse that later.
You will also need to transfer the black ribbon cable
before you put the battery in the new assembly.
After that, you can install the motherboard,
and the daughterboard,
Redo all the screws,
replug all the connectors and the antenna.
Then, screw-back the loudspeaker.
The next step
is to plug-in the two flex cables on the back cover,
for the USB-C and the headphone jack, remember?!
Now, you can install the back cover.
Start from the top side,
and press your way down to the bottom.
Finish-up with the 2 screws.
And that's another successful repair.
