Welcome video 2 balance course - Duration: 1:57.

Do you struggle with finding balance in the midst of a hectic semester crunch? Do

you find yourself passionate about your academic teaching and scholarship and

program developing and yet also find yourself struggling for a balanced and

whole, fully happy life? If so, this course is for you.

I'm Dr. Beth Berila. I'm a professor at a Midwestern university and I've been in

higher education for most of my adult life.

I'm therefore very familiar with the arc of most academic semesters or quarters. I

know how it goes from small, slower pace to unbelievably hectic to finals week,

still unbelievably hectic. I know how we're constantly barraged with lots of

tasks to do, lots of requests on our time, lots of projects we really want to do

and at the same time, we may have a family, we have hobbies, we have life

outside of work and the challenge is how we manage to navigate all of that and

live a fully happy and healthy life. This course, "From Imbalance to In Balance," will

offer you some specific tools, drawn from my own yoga and mindfulness practices

and expertise, that will help you move towards balance even in the midst of

hectic semester crunches. I'll offer daily practices. You'll leave the course

with a specific intention designed for you that can help move you towards

balance. You'll also find a community of people who are also interested in

balance along, with specific practices and tools like a yes/no checklist that

can help you decide when you can say yes or no to different projects. If you're

interested in working with me on how to move towards living and working a life

fully in balance then go ahead and register for this course. I look forward

to working with you. Take care

Criminal Justice Field Experience Degree Track at Valencia College Video 1 - Duration: 3:58.

Welcome to our series of videos about

applying to the field experience track

for the AS degree in Criminal Justice

at Valencia College.

These short videos will tell you about the program,

how to apply to the program, and how our career

program advisor can help you to get credit

for your law enforcement or corrections certification

or for college-level classes you may have already taken.

Hi, I'm professor Dave Heffernan.

I'm the Criminal Justice program chair,

and I'll be walking you through the program today.

If you're currently employed as a sworn

law enforcement or corrections officer in

the state of Florida, you are eligible for this program.

So what's unique about this program?

Well, first of all, it's online.

You can earn credit for doing your job.

Your degree counts for your salary incentive credit.

It's also a fast track to an affordable degree.

It's applied academic education that

relates to your work.

And its exclusive learning with other sworn criminal

justice professionals.

And it results in an Associate's Degree

from Valencia College, which leads to Valencia's

Business and Organizational Leadership

Bachelor's degree.

The Criminal Justice Field Learning program is broken

down in several elements.

The first is the three field experience

courses, which I'll discuss in a moment.

Then you have your articulated academy credits,

which will be from 6 to 15 credits,

depending on the length of your academy course.

Then your general education credits,

which will be 15 credits of things like Composition,

Psychology, and Sociology; and then your

Criminal Justice degree courses, which will be

nine to twenty three credits,

depending on how many credits articulated.

And it'll include things like Investigations,

Juvenile Justice or

possibly intro to Corrections,

for a total of 60 credits for the Associate's

Degree. The three foundational courses

are CCJ 2942, CJ Field Experience 1,

2943, CJ Field Experience 2, and 2944, CJ Field

Experience 3.

Each of these courses is worth 6 credits

and that's because, in addition to the academic learning,

you also have to demonstrate satisfactory completion

of 240 hours of work based learning on the job.

To look at the individual courses,

2942, CJ Field Experience 1,

will include topics like the role of ethics in

establishing public trust, the evolution

of criminal jurisprudence in the US, and

understanding evidence-based criminal justice practices.

CJ Field Experience 2 will include topics like

the roles of police, corrections, and the courts,

apply ethics in the context of your CJ occupation, and

apply criminological theories to crime causation.

And these are just a few examples of topics in each

course. CJ Field experience 3 will include things

like understanding the Bill of Rights' effect on the administration of justice,

the ethical and moral dilemmas officers commonly face,

and demonstrating technical competencies in your occupational field.

Well, that's the program in a nutshell.
