Veteran cop is demoted for posting racist video where he taunts a young black woman Daily Mail Onl - Duration: 5:35.Veteran cop is demoted for posting racist video where he taunts a young black woman Daily Mail Onl
The footage was posted on Tuesday by officer corporal Gary Steele from the Detroit Police Department
A Detroit police officer was caught making fun of a black woman by filming her as she walked home after he had impounded her car in the freezing cold.
Footage posted on Tuesday shows corporal Gary Steele from the Detroit Police Department using condescending remarks as he films 23 year old Ariel Moore walking away from her car near Stout Street and Joy Road on Detroits west side.
He and his partner had stopped her for driving with an expired registration.
They offered her a ride but she refused and chose to walk the block home instead.
That is when the cop started filming her and posted the video on Snapchat with the stickers what black girl magic looks like and black history month.
Both are available on the app and are intended to be genuine celebrations of black culture.
In the video, Steele can be heard sniggering and saying bye Felicia as Moore walked away.
The video emerged on Wednesday. Steele has been reassigned to only desk work pending the outcome of an investigation into the video.
His appalled boss, Chief James Craig, will determine once that investigation has finished if he should lose his job or not, DailyMail.com understands.

Ms Moore pictured said: Ive never had this happen to me in my life. Im kind of shocked
Steele is shown in his 2008 mugshot when he fired his gun at his girlfriend during an argument but was allowed to keep his job despite pleading guilty to a misdemeanor
During the clip, Steele follows Moore with his camera as she sets off on foot in below freezing temperatures after being told to leave her vehicle.
As the clip plays on, one of the officers inside the car says the young woman is doing the walk of shame before Steele signs off with bye Felicia.
A sticker added to the video also reads celebrating Black History Month.
Moments before the footage was filmed, bodycam footage shows the officer had pulled Ms Moore over for having an expired registration.
He then told her she would have to leave her vehicle and offered to give her a lift home but she declined the offer and decided to walk a block home.
Ms Moore told : Ive never had this happen to me in my life.
Im kind of shocked — I dont really know how to feel right now. Im still trying to take it in.
On the night of the incident, temperatures in Detroit plummeted to 18F.
Ms Moores mother, Monique Mobley, added: What they put on there, thats racist. Theyre demeaning my child for no reason.
Detroit Chief of Police James Craig admitted the post was a bad decision; when he addressed the media
During a press conference on Thursday, Detroit Chief of Police James Craig said the post was a very bad decision.
According to the he said: Im angry because this was a racially insensitive post.
He also shared with reporters how he called Moores mother to offer a personal apology following the incident.
And he admitted Steele had a troubling history predating his appointment as chief with the Detroit Police.
In 2008, Steele was arrested for physically attacking and firing a gun at his ex girlfriend during a domestic attack.
Despite his arrest, Steele remained with the force and took a misdemeanour plea.
Officer Craig added: It would have been a different outcome if I had been chief.
Following the Snapchat post, Steele has been stripped of his corporal ranking and remains under investigation.
