hello everyone. This is Jennifer. Welcome to my video. I'd like to share a story with you.
This is about a student who was a skeptic when it came to learning online.
She didn't believe people could do that. Let's follow her journey and see what happened.
The first ability was flexibility. This student was in her 30s
had children, worked full-time - but she wanted her degree and this is how she
could get it through online learning. The second ability is visibility. When the
student went to college before, she sat in the back of the room and was very
quiet. But, oh no - not in online courses. She had to be visible. She couldn't hide
and she discovered that she made deeper connections with her learning and her
fellow classmates. As the semesters passed, she began to notice a pattern with her
online courses. She felt much more confident in her online courses when her
instructor was there and available. Ah ha - the third ability: instructor
availability. This student wanted her degree pretty bad so she let her
schedule and her skepticism fall away and jumped in and took an online course.
She loved her online courses and felt connected and learned a lot. For me, this
student's experience verified the material in our course. It was exciting
to have that material backed up by someone outside the course instead of
inside the course. As an instructor, the morale of this student's story is about
the three abilities that frame the benefits of online learning for students:
flexibility, visibility, and instructor availability.
