Waching daily Jul 27 2018

- As someone who has been entrenched in the video world

for over 17 years, I have seen a lot of online videos.

Today, I'm gonna tell you my top five pet peeves,

but I'm also gonna tell you how to fix them

and that is coming up next.

(gentle ethereal music)

Hey, welcome back,

it's Tracy with VideoScriptSuccess.com!

Where I help you take your brilliant, but scattered ideas

and turn them into marketing videos that convert.

I need you to hit that subscribe button

and that notification bell so that you get all

of my tips, tools and tricks for making great online videos.

Today, we're gonna talk about my top five

pet peeves when it comes to online videos.

Now, I don't like to complain,

it's not my normal sunny disposition,

however there are some things with online videos

that just drive me crazy and they're so easy to fix.

So, if you're doing one or all five of these, stop it.

But, if you're new to video, even better

'cause you can be uber kind to your audience

by starting out the right way.

Okay, let's dive in with pet peeve number one

and that is rambling.

Oh, nothing drives me more crazy

than when a 30 minute video could've taken 10 minutes

or a 10 minute video should've taken three minutes.

Listen, if you are rambling on and on

and you don't have a point,

and you're not adding value to your audience's lives,

they will click away.

Listen, to fix it, it's fairly easy,

I am the video structure lady,

so I want you to structure your video.

I don't mean script it word-for-word,

unless that's what you do,

but you wanna have a general outline

of where you're starting,

where you're going, how you're ending.

That is kind to your audience

and it's how you avoid video vomit,

so if you want your audience to stay,

please structure your videos.

Okay, pet peeve number two is your sound, sound, sound.

News flash here, people,

the farther away you are from your audio source,

the worse your sound's going to be.

So, if you are not mic'd

and you're in a crowded area, we hear the crowd.

If you're you're not mic'd

and you're outdoors and it's windy, we hear the wind.

You really have to think about your sound

because it's actually more important

than how pretty your video is.

No one is going to stick around if they can't hear you.

You could have the best structured video

that looks so pretty, but if people can't hear you,

or they're leaning in and they're trying to do it,

they are going to click away.

Now, this is an obvious fix.

You know what I'm gonna say?

Use a mic.

Even if you are shooting on your smartphone,

I'm gonna include my quick and dirty

Video Tool Guide for you and there's a little link in there

where you can find a smartphone lavalier for under $20.

You're welcome.

Make sure you have good sound.

Okay, my pet peeve number three is bad lighting.

Listen, I get it, lighting can be tricky, right?

But I want you to think about this:

if we can't see you, we can't connect with you.

So I'm gonna do a quick, simple fix and that is

think light on your face.

Try and get as much light on your face as you possibly can.

What I see a lot of people do is they make the mistake

of plopping themselves down in front of a window,

with the window behind them and then they're backlit.

So actually, if you just turned it around

and made the light come on your face,

you'd be a whole lot better.

It doesn't have to be perfect, but light it up, buttercup.

I want to see your smiling face.

And my fourth pet peeve is when people

deliver their video like a lecture.

Listen, video is a conversation, not a dissertation.

You are not lecturing your audience,

you are inviting them into the conversation

to get to know you.

So how do you fix it?

Well, once you have your basic outline,

you want to add conversational language.

You wouldn't say can not,

you'd say can't, so use contractions.

If you say y'all, I think that's awesome, say y'all.

I say gonna, that's okay, that's a conversation.

You want people to join the conversation.

Ask some questions.

And I'm not gonna leave you hanging here, again,

in the description you can find a download,

a cheat sheet for conversational language

you can add to your own scripts.

My last pet peeve, number five, is no CTA,

where people leave me hanging, wondering what do I do next?

Listen, if someone makes it all the way

to the end of your video, keep that video love fest going.

Give them something to do.

I talked a lot about this last week in my video

when I talked about the structure of a YouTube video,

which you can go check out, one of these places,

wherever the little eye pops up,

you can go check that video out,

and I talk about your Call to Action and what you can do.

You can ask people to comment,

you can send them to another one of your videos,

like I just did, but you want to give them something to do.

Okay, I hope you found this video helpful,

and if you did, I want you to hit

the subscribe button and that notification bell

and I'll see you right here next week.

Ancient Rome: The Beauty Habits Of The Ancient Romans (Video) 2018 - Duration: 10:03.

Hi guys!

Welcome to Archaeology And Travel With Zorica!

Today I am going to talk about beauty habits of the Ancient Romans.

You have probably heard about some of them but you have to prepare your stomach for what

comes next.

In order to better understand the beauty habits of the Ancient Romans we have to take a look

at historic facts.

From the time of Kings and Republic Rome has changed a lot and grown into deliberate conglomerate

of nation incorporating almost entire known world.

Conquering the ancient states like Greece and Egypt inevitably brought back the accomplishments

of these cultures to Rome.

To be precise, Rome was not the home of makeup nor perfumes but once the elite saw the opportunity

to accent to beauty ideal and to preserve the beauty they have accepted the beauty trends

from Greece and Egypt.

That way they started using some good products.

Afterwards came the tendency to distinguish the elite from poor, not just by the wealth but

using a personal display.

The idea to express the nobility through the white skin, led the Ancient Romans to some

dangerous practices which caused them to severe problems with health and in some cases even

death.

The white skin was very important to Ancient Roman women because it was a sign of status.

The use of lead to bleach the skin cause them severe health issues.

The powder ladies used to whiten the skin was not durable nor thermoresistant and they

ended up as a subject of jokes during the hot summer days.

Another skin bleaching product was so called crocodilea, which was nothing but the crocodile

dung.

After successful face bleaching, Roman women applied moisturizer or anti wrinkle treatment.

Wrinkles, freckles and skin blemishes were not acceptable in the Ancient Roman

society.

Ovid states that the Ancient Romans used swan fat, asses milk and axle geese to remove wrinkles.

Galen states that the Ancient Romans used honey to fix the skin imperfections.

This must have been a practice inherited from the Ancient Egyptians.

I will cover this subject in depth in one of the future videos.

The use of makeup was favorable in the Ancient Roman society even though there were many

sarcastic comments about using a makeup during the rainy or summer season.

Wearing a makeup was an essential activity in the life of Ancient Roman Patrician women.

Those of noble origin, even had a skillful attendant called ornatix to adorn them.

Blushing cheeks were considered as a proof of good health.

That is why they used cinnabar and minium to blush the cheeks.

The use of these two components cause them a severe health issues and social stigmatization.

Those with more experienced beauty stylists, used a mixture of rose and poppy petals to

blush the cheeks.

I would note here that the crocodile dung, so called crocodilea, was used as a base for

lipstick.

Can you imagine kissing a girl wearing that kind of lipstick?

White teeth were also a must when we talk about the wealthy Romans.

To get the idea about the importance of white teeth to the Ancient Romans, let me recall

the ancient statement of Ovid.

He said:"You can do yourself an untold damage if you laugh and your teeth are black, too

long or irregular.".

Black teeth were common for poor people.

Members of elite who have lost their teeth had an alternative.

From special cement paste, ivory and bone dentists made a fake teeth to make their clients

socially acceptable.

Patricians usually used a toothpaste, toothbrushes and pastilles to sweeten the breath.

In Ancient Roman society, hair was considered favourable for both sexes.

Those who have lost their hair over time used several medicaments in order to make their

hair grow again.

Some of them included animal fat.

Especially of bear and sheep.

One of the weirdest prescriptions included rat's head, rat's excrement, hellebore

and pepper.

Even though they used everything mentioned above, many Romans, both sexes actually, lost

their hair which cause them to start wearing a wigs.

Now we have to bear in mind that those wigs were not looking natural and the owner of

these wigs ended up as a subject of jokes.

Ovid states that a lady should keep all the doors well guarded in order to prevent slipping

the wig of the head due to the draft.

For combing hair, Ancient Romans used wooden, ivory or tortoise shell combs.

Plautus states that the use of curling iron is attested in the 2nd century BC.

In fact, both sexes were using them.

Body hair was removed as a part of hygiene.

Women were using a blood of bats to get rid of body hair.

Sounds awkward?

They also used bryionia, pumice stone and razors to get rid of body hair.

During the early days of Republic, shaving beard was not popular and a man who would

spend much efforts in grooming would suffer a massive ridicule (jokes).

Later on, in the 2nd century BC aesthetic fashion has changed under the influence of

Scipio Africanus and shaving beard became popular, at least for the elite.

Plebeians and slaves (so called servi) kept their beards because it was almost impossible

for a man to shave himself without using any help.

Rome was famous as a home of many barber shops across the town.

Some of them popular as a masters of their crafts while the others like Antiochus and

Subura were on a very bad reputation.

Roman poet Martial, from the 1st century AD was not satisfied with a treatment at the

Antiochus barber shop.

He worte that the only those who "want to decent to the Underworld would went to Antiochus

barber shop".

Apparently, the scars he has got were "worse than he would suffer from a boxer or sharp

nails of fierce wife".

I wonder:"How did he knew that?!".

In one of his poems, Martial speaks about lady Galla.

He said:"You live at home, Galla, but not your beauty that lives at the chemics.

Your hair was made in far away Germany, and your teeth are in the boxes just like your

dresses.

When you get into the bed, the rest of you is boxed up in the hundreds of boxes.

Even your face is somewhere else.".

To conclude the story about the Ancient Romans, I would note here that as the aesthetic fashion

changed many other traditions changed.

To follow the hairstyle fashion sculptors were forced to model the sculptures with removable

hair.

Extreme IT - Lenovo Marketing for Business | Video Breakdown | Ep. 6 - Duration: 12:38.

The whole fact that this campaign is called extreme IT -

no offense to I.T. people out there

but sometimes they're not the coolest people in the world.

Never mind - those are the engineers.

We like to the I.T. people

hey there it's Alex with Your Local Studio I have two fantastic experts with

me today of Joe Daly video video producer extraordinaire

Aloha

and Kevin

Kolbe the creative dude at Kevin Kolbe.com

I don't know what that was ...

Today's video that we're gonna break down is actually from Lenovo and it's part of a

series but the one we're gonna break down is extreme IT temperature control

all right here we go

and at some point in here look he's starting to you can actually sweat beads

on yeah it's just think the the post of the post production they'd add to

accentuate they really do that deadly tortilla chip made with the world's

hottest pepper oh you took a big whiff of it too that didn't feel good on its

nose finished I felt like I was much more eloquent let's break let's break

this down you better than me yeah so let's start with strategy now

this is part of a series either the first or last depending on you look at

it what do you think their strategy is and their approach to that well I think

it's just to put it in layman's terms how technology works and make it

entertaining for somebody to watch but I think I'm a computer nerd but I don't

know the ins and outs of what different parts of a processor is called and stuff

like that good point okay the overall message is that you're

overheating mariah pewter dangerous to your computer not good it's painful and

they're doing a good job conveying that making it fun to watch I don't remember

the specifics really of what I need to do but you know what's stuck in my mind

I want I don't want my computer overheating right cuz that's a main

problem yeah so now I'm gonna be more aware of that a future it you know the

whole fact that this this campaign is called extreme IT no offense to IT

people out there but sometimes they're not the coolest people in this is the

engineers we like the engineers right now your computer just went down but I

I like that and I didn't realize when you shared this first video that it was

a campaign now it makes a little bit more sense I agree I mean you've taken

something that could be extremely boring important but boring and other than some

IT and engineers watch it but now I think anybody could watch this and go

get it mm-hmm I don't know that I remember Lenovo Oh interesting but I

even though he's got a Lenovo shirt on yeah for those before you comment but

but I think it is honestly I think it was a brilliant way to take something

that could be very geek and tech and almost too hard to understand and just

put it in a visual context that is just I think was genius so I thought yeah the

overall purpose you know it's not promoting one of the products it's not

promoting a service it it's really I guess and you try to educate on a very

entertaining way so edutainment well it's a tangible benefit because if

you think about it I mean it's in a way you know you could say well Lenovo makes

these computers that have this so therefore they set themselves up because

kind of an expert here yes which is always good but they're doing it in a

way that it's like yeah and you will and and even I don't maybe we're not to

production yet but even the fact that when he starts you realized oh holy crap

it's just getting gonna get bad yeah it's set up so well that you feel the

the suppose let's dive into it just since you brought it up the production

quality production value I would say this is this is pretty pretty nice

pretty well done it's very well done production why I I gotta say

well-thought-out it's it's it's a hundred percent ripoff of a show called

hot once yes oh yeah even with the little fire scale outside which I'm not

against like borrowing people's ideas and turning them into your own right but

it's one of those webseries that's just not quite well enough known that not a

ton of people would notice that actually bothers great they even have cutaways to

the food being prepared oh yeah it's probably stock footage from

somewhere but it's yeah like that kind of stuff but the cool the suspense of oh

my gosh stock footage I'm not sure well and there's

to be said to cutting a way to keep people engaged in something even if it's

stock footage or something different this worked perfectly and and it almost

it kind of continued to build the suspense oh well this this yeah it's

like okay here's the hot one yeah building it up there and the execution

of the different elements they bring on helping reinforce the points yeah and

how they make sure yeah they make fun of the fact that I can't speak well even in

the end which I'm pretty sure the the the end of each one of these is

something different but if you notice it actually has like the the curse words

are you held out so they stay in cools whatever explains so I think all of

these they have like at least three different takeaways from that specific

thing that stays in the theme their theme it was well well thought out my

they had been well planned the question is if they have more than these three or

this they'll just as three but yeah I mean they probably came up with this

concept and came up with three videos and recorded them pretty close to each

other and then now we're releasing them as the series so this guy I'm always

impressed when an employee is this good on camera so what I do is Google the

person and so he is the he's the face it's almost like he's part of the

marketing team internally but he's like the face of it so if you google him I

went back to like 2011 and he's releasing videos and things like that he

was the ThinkPad expert so if you went to a Vegas show and ovo had a booth he'd

be the guy that was like out in front like that all that stuff so he just

makes sense that he's on the front of this seems like that exactly he's got

the charisma and kind of thing to do it so which really goes a long way if you

can like I was saying sometimes we work in business video you just work with

employees and sometimes you get lucky and they're awesome and sometimes you

get people that just aren't comfortable on camera and you can't blame them they

never do it so when I see this I'm like ooh was he an actor or what so I googled

him and he this is what he does he's just up

promotional guide for the company and Anna and I think that adds to the

realness I mean I think so many videos I mean I

my gut is there's a lot of companies that would have never taken this this

risk because in fact you know I mean let's let's be honest there's a lot

bleeped out in there so that at some point had to be a conversation now you

would think you know do we want to put that out there it feels real with a real

person I didn't really mean I assumed he worked there but but when now this is

somebody you might see at the trade show it was and see online it actually then

builds that connection there yeah I think you know you you don't always have

to use an actor or an actress to portray something that you want with your brand

and and this guy probably the fact that he's real mm-hmm

even made it even better I don't think an actor could pull it off when you're

eating that the hottest chilli and trying to describe how like The Corrs of

your competitor or overheating I don't think you could pull it off as an actor

he's got to have it he knows that the exact that's a good

point yeah so let's talk about distribution so this has 7,000 views on

YouTube they do have a Facebook version that has three point four so less and

that makes sense I mean Facebook is they're not as as intrigued about this

they also have a twitter that where I originally saw it that we can't really

see the there's actually not a whole lot of stats on this we're just next to the

full thing but they have part of their series the next one here the IT voice

command has 10,000 and the IT connection speeds has 19,000 so you're looking at

several tens of thousands of wouldn't combined right what are you thoughts

about the distribution plan of what they do you think they got what they were

wanting out of it what do you think the response was and maybe it's not an

online maybe that wasn't their first market they're trying to get maybe

they're showing it at multi for meetings or electronic show or something like

that and they're also sharing it online for everybody to see but it's really to

create a buzz inside an environment like that right but well and I think also to

I mean you know it by putting it on YouTube I mean nobody is probably

searching for extreme IT temperature control because YouTube is a search

engine yeah right but by putting it here though it has a good chance of at least

being shared you can share it from here you can embed

it from here why not be there things tend to I personally think if something

has a little if it potentially gets viral and not necessarily viral but you

know starts taking off yeah it's usually from YouTube that is shared it's not

from Facebook and it's not because there were Universal our ability for sharing

and they could've easily cut some of these down mm-hmm I just I I just like

the way it was was put together and and cut

I think this would play perfect as is on Facebook and that quite honestly I would

be surprised if this wasn't on LinkedIn no yeah that's you're right I didn't

actually look down there that probably do have in there Linton so there's a one

share that's those are eleven shares I could even see their Salesforce sharing

this so this is a good point that this video is great you're right people

probably won't be searching for this content on YouTube right or - it will

show up too much but it's it's a great piece for their sales team and their

other people just so here's a fun video and helps extend their brand for a

certain point but not necessary the same virality for the other video we reviewed

of the dancing realtor but if the purpose is though to get their name out

there be a little different yeah you know we make this but let's like explain

it it kind of takes the heat off then of sales people and stuff like that that

are probably good at their job but may not have the information that kept let

me let me show something let me send this to you shorten in a meeting take

the heat off of it that's what the prompter say oh yeah all right so key

takeaways that a business owner or marketer could could take get from this

this video or series this those three key takeaways I mean they that the

production quality is high I think I think the graphics look great on there

it's but it it looks like a high quality video but it's in the it seems so simple

in the end how they did it well I mean you can make a really good-looking video

without having to hire actors and have ten different scenes so you're gonna be

in your video you can just be in a studio with one guy that's a obviously

the guy makes a huge difference and you can crank out something that

looks really really good yeah yeah my takeaways one hire Kevin but I think

this is is in fact I would I would strongly recommend watching the whole

the whole camp series because I think the takeaway is how do you take

something that is very complex to understand but present it in a way that

you get I can't still tell you how a processor works but I got a better

understanding that heats bad right and I so that's the takeaway there is that if

you have a business or something that's like you know it's just too hard to

explain I but it's not if you think of it it through a different lens you break

it down you use simpler way and you entertain while doing it so find

somebody in-house that in-house talent that or knows or Kevin or heaven or a

Kevin or and then and then find a topic that you can that you can break down in

simplistic way and ideally entertaining and you use that in your sales team to

promote your brand and do it as a series now and you can go far with it cool yep

very cool awesome thanks for watching guys we'll

catch you next time on another video marketing breakdown I have a hankering

for chips no chips you anything else no I don't want any extra hug goes chip

goes no I want to feel my tongue for the rest of my life
