[Who are you?]
Hello, Matthieu Richez, I am the manager and founder of CCCP and I am also a game designer for the game.
[What is your role in the project?]
On Dead in Vinland, I am the game designer and game author.
I laid the foundations of the gameplay, the architecture and general game design.
For one year now, I have been working on content, particularly dialogues in the game.
Many things happen through dialogues, not only the story,
they play a role in the interaction with different objects or exploration.
There is an advanced dialogue system, tree diagrams with a choice of answers;
skills tests, objects to win, injuries, etc...
Different stories with many branches.
There you go, I am working mainly on that now.
My day to day work also means answering the different questions asked by team members:
their different tasks and my vision of the project.
I am trying to pass it on and answer the every day questions that you have when you are making a game.
[What is your favourite feature?]
So my favourite feature and the most hated in the game...
We decided to improve the dialogue system, which was very simple in Dead in Bermuda,
where there were linear questions and answers.
Now, there are possible branches, skills tests...
We have many tools that you would want in paper role playing games
or gamebooks, for example.
In terms of features, for us as Game designers, it's great!
Because of course, there are many possibilities to design puzzles and twisted dialogues
In terms of production, it's not as fun...
Of course, it has tripled, or even multiplied by five the amount of work required to write a dialogue!
But for the player, I think that it will be super cool, since the dialogues are rich and interesting to play.
[Who is your favourite character?]
My favourite character is Kari.
She is the teenage girl in the main character's family.
She was my favourite to write, simply because I can let loose!
She is a Viking, but is also a typical teenager!
I loved transcribing teenagers' character "I hate it all, etc"
But at a middle aged Viking level.
Of course I have great fun writing her texts and dialogues.
I love that character, she is really resourceful.
She isn't at all girly or likely to do what her mum wants her to do,
like cooking for men every day.
No, she prefers having adventures on the island, exploring it, discovering and hunting...
She can be a bit of a hothead sometimes.
I love this character because she is super fun.
[Which game affected you the most?]
My favourite game of all times is, without a doubt, Crusader Kings 2!
I think I must have spent 200h on this game.
In this game, you manage a kingdom in the medieval era.
I could speak and debate about it for hours with people who play it.
The game is so open!
And I love the paradox policy in the game.
Meaning the paying and free contents that they produce in the game.
For me, it is an example, as much for the professional side as well as the fun.
[What is in your box?]
There is this can of Coke Zero! Zero is very important, because I am on a diet.
Without Coke I can't work, so without Coke, there just wouldn't be a game!
Yeah, I know it's bad... When I am in a rush or under stress, I need Coke.
It's my guilty pleasure, I hope to stop after finishing the game. Of course!
Really, I drank so much that I think the development was sponsored by Coke!
