Finding yourself in a boss battle against a colossal foe can definitely be intimidating.
Especially if that foe is colossal in more ways than just power, strength or cunning.
We're talking large and in charge bosses that are ginormous in size - the kinds that
leave you in awe when it comes to figuring out a way how to defeat them.
So today, we're counting down our picks for those terrifyingly large foes with our
list of the top 10 biggest bosses in video games.
10 Yhorm the Giant – Dark Souls 3 Starting off this list with a little bit of
Dark Souls 3, many of you might be thinking – oh boy, Yhorm is SO HARD TO BEAT.
To each their own, friends.
But he arguably is a challenge – his immense size is not to be taken lightly as he whips
around his massive axe.
Despite his size, he's surprisingly fast, meaning you need to be quick on your toes
to avoid his blade, or else you're pretty much gone for.
9 Malus – Shadow of the Colossus It should be no surprise that Shadow of the
Colossus made this list – the entire game is centered on defeating the Colossi – 16
massive beings – in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono.
The 16th and final Colossi you face off against in the game, Malus is the tallest opponent,
and looks a whole lot like a massive human made mountain.
Roughly 48m in height, Malus is hypothetically taller than the statue of Liberty, and roughly
has the same width as the American landmark.
Malus is definitely an intimidating foe, and without a doubt a startling and rewarding
Colossi to end off the game with.
8 Marvel Vs Capcom 3 – Galactus Taking a page out of our sister channel Top
10 Nerd's book here, let's take a look at one of the largest super villains from
the Marvel Universe – Galactus, the devourer of worlds.
Not only is he one of the largest super villains to ever grace the pages of comics, he's
also super big in his video game adaptation in Marvel Vs Capcom 3.
Only a portion of his body fits into the frame, and it takes some quick-on-your-feet moves
to take him out.
Side note, if you want to find out more about large villains from comic books, we actually
have a list of top 10 largest super villains on that channel, so definitely check it out!
7 Adamantoise – Final Fantasy XV (15) When Adamantoise, a massive tortoise like
boss, appeared in the game, its reveal was nothing short of epic.
Or terrifying, depending on your take of it.
The creature stretches its neck outwards from beneath its mountainous back, and you quickly
release how absolutely tiny you are in comparison to it.
The battle is also notoriously long; there was even a rumour when the game was released
that boss battle with Adamantoise took 72 hours to complete.
Luckily, that wasn't true.
6 Leviathan – Resistance 2 In Resistance 2, you battle the Chimera, an
alien like force that have launched a full scale invasion on Earth.
Leviathan is one of the Chimera, and oh boy, is it massive.
It swats away helicopters like they were flies, and smashes the city surrounding it with little
care.
The best way to take it down is by shooting projectiles into its mouth, but even then,
as you run from building to building for cover, it doesn't get knocked down easily.
5 The Red Eye – Lost Planet 2 Lost Planet 2 is a third person shooter developed
by Capcom which takes place on the fictional planet of E.D.N III – a planet in the process
of an ice age.
Part survival, part fight-off-aliens, the game features a boss battle with a sinister
beast called the Red Eye, which is a huge parasitic worm that emerges from the sand.
And it's INCREDIBLY hard to defeat.
4 Phalanx - Shadow of the Colossus Phalanx is the 13th Colossi you encounter
in the game, and is by far the largest.
An airborne colossi that floats in the sky, the player must take a different approach
to taking out Phalanx, since it's got a significantly more peaceful nature than most
of the other colossi you face off against.
It's been estimated that it's around 145 meters in length, with a 50 meter wingspan.
3 Unicron – Transformers In the PS2 Transformers game, Unicron is a
boss you battle as Optimus Prime – a transformer that is one of the earliest creations in the
universe, and an enemy of the Autobot's planet Cybertron.
While we can't really judge how massive Unicron is in the game, similar to Galactus,
there are rough estimates in the Transformers comics, with estimates of between 18,000 and
75,000 miles wide, which is way beyond the size of planet Earth, and closer to the sizes
of Neptune and Saturn, depending on which number you go with.
That being said, the villain is massive in the game, and makes you as Optimus Prime feel
small, despite the hero being of a large stature himself.
2 Cronos – God of War Cronos, the titan who fathered the Olympians
as was overthrown by his son Zeus, is a prominent figure in the God of War series.
Zeus' punishment for Cronos was to eternally carry Pandora's Temple on his back in chains,
and after Kratos successfully retrieves Pandora's Box, Zeus punishes Cronos again for letting
that happen by putting him in chains in the pits of Tartarus.
So of course, Cronos isn't the biggest fan of Kratos, especially after Kratos kills Gaia,
resulting in you having to duke it out with the massive titan.
Luckily for you, during the battle, despite seemingly losing to the Titan, Kratos slices
through his stomach to victory.
1 Gongen Wyzen – Asura's Wrath Asura's Wrath is a 2012 beat em up style
video game that has you playing as the demigod Asura, who is seeking revenge on other demigods
who betrayed him.
It's a game that blends science fiction with elements of Buddhism and Hinduism.
The title character eventually faces off against his 12,000 rival, a demigod named Wyzen, who
uses Mantra, which is made up of captured mortal souls, to grow in size and become more
powerful as the battle progresses.
Towards the end of the battle, we get a bit of a side by side scale of him next to the
planet of Gaea, where the game is set, and he's without a doubt super immense.
