Hi Bob the Canadian here, sometimes there's something in your future that you're really
really excited about.
Maybe you have an upcoming birthday, or maybe you're going on a trip, and you're really
excited about something that's going to happen in a few days.
Well in this video I'll help you learn some English words and phrases to talk about an
exciting event that's going to happen in the future.
Hey, Bob the Canadian here, if this is your first time here don't forget to click the

enjoy the English that you are learning.
So, something exciting is coming up in your future, and you want to be able to talk about
it.
Well today we'll look a number of ways to tell people about something exciting that's
going to happen in your future.
The first way to express excitement about something in the future is to say, "I can't
wait."
or "I cannot wait."
or "I can hardly wait."
All three of these things express excitement about something in the future.
So let's imagine you're going on a vacation.
You could say, "I cannot wait to go on vacation."
You can say, "I can't wait to go on vacation."
Or you could say, "I can hardly wait to leave on my vacation."
All three of those would be a way to express the excitement, the happiness that you're
feeling that you're going to be going away.
That you're going to be going on a vacation.
Another way to express excitement about something in the future is to say, "I'm looking
forward to…."
So let's imagine that you're going to be having dinner with a good friend.
You could say, "I'm looking forward to having dinner with you."
You could say, "I am looking forward to having dinner with you."
Or you could say, "I'm really looking forward to having dinner with you."
All three of those would be a way to express excitement in positive way, to express excitement,
to express happiness about an event that's coming up in the future.
I'm sure a lot of you were really looking forward to me putting this video on my Youtube
channel.
Well I hope some of you were.
Another way to express excitement about the future is to just use the word, "excite"
I am excited about the start of the new school year."
Or you can say, "I am very excited about the start of the new school year."
Or you could say, "I am extremely excited about the start of the new school year."
All three of those would a good way to express excitement.
But, let's stop for minute.
Sometimes there's something coming up in your future that you're anxious about.
You're not excited about, you're not happy about it.
Maybe you're a little bit worried about it.
So let's look at a couple of ways to express worry or concern about an upcoming event.
The first way you could express worry or concern about an upcoming event is to say, "I'm
on pins and needles."
Now this doesn't sound really good.
I'm not sure if you know what pins are, I'll put a picture up here of pins and needles,
but in English we say, "I'm on pins and needles."
So let's imagine you've written a test.
You could say to someone, "I wrote a test last week, and I'm waiting for the results,
and I'm on pins and needles."
I'm on pins and needles.
The next one sounds even worse.
You can say, "The wait is killing me."
Now "killing" is a very strong word.
We don't use "killing" lightly, but for some reason in English we say this routinely.
We say, "The wait is killing me."
So maybe you went to the doctor, and maybe you're waiting for the doctor to call you
and you could say to someone, "I went to the doctor last week, and I'm waiting for
the test results, and the wait is killing me."
Sounds kind of harsh.
Sounds kind of very very direct, but we do actually say this in English.
The wait is killing me.
Well that's three ways to talk positively about an exciting event coming in the future.
I can't wait.
I'm looking forward to.
Or I'm excited about.
And a couple of ways to talk about a future event that maybe you're a little worried
about.
So you could say, "The wait is killing me." or you could say, "I'm on pins and needles."
