Hi, my name is Karen Blanchette and I'm a certified Enneagram teacher, and today
I wanted to share a little bit about my journey and why I decided to do this
work. So, I learned about the Enneagram when I was 17 years old and back then it
was just a fun thing to do. It was a fun personality typing test that, you
know, I was interested in because I was interested in all of those kinds of, you
know, Cosmo quizzes or whatever and I totally mistyped myself. I typed
myself as a 7 which is the primarily variety seeking, fun-loving type when
really, I'm a type 6. And, at the time, because I had typed myself wrong, I
really didn't get anything out of it. It did not change anything about my
behavior or how I thought about the world. But then I went into college and I
realized there were all these challenges that I had. I had this responsibility for
the first time in my life. I needed to take care of things that I had never
even thought about before. For the first time in my life, I was away from my
friends and my family and I was trying to, like, explore this whole new world and
that brought up a ton of anxiety for me. So, I started thinking about what was
really important to me and why I was so freaked out and why I didn't seem to
have it all together. And I came to the conclusion that really I was a type 6.
That I was really based on wanting safety and security and that totally
changed my perspective. Before I used to think that I had to be a certain way.
That I was "supposed to" be good and right or successful and all of these things
and that put a lot of pressure on me and I felt like all these other people could
do this stuff and I couldn't and that was my reality. And the second I learned
about my Enneagram type was the second that I realized that's a valid way to be
and that it's okay, whatever personality type you have, it's okay and it's
completely valid, and that the reason that these personality types exist is
because they work in the world. There are strategies associated with them and they
are logical and they are correct and that they are okay and you are okay.
And once I understood that, I wanted to show people, to teach people about
their personality types so that they would feel okay and so that they would
see, kind of, who they are and how to best leverage that. Not fighting against their
instincts, not fighting against who they are, but really embracing that and really
being able to share that with the world because we're all such beautiful people
and that's really important to me. So, I got into this work and then I just started
doing this and wanting to share with people that your personality is fine and,
yes, every personality type has its weaknesses, but every personality type
has its strengths too and that trying to shut it up, trying to shut up that
personality pattern doesn't really work very well. Really, the key to shutting
that pattern up is to really accept it, embrace it and utilize it in the world
and the best way possible. So, I just want to let you know that that's where I'm
coming from. I really hope you come to my workshop
that's coming up soon. You can register for it below. Thank you so much for
taking the time to listen to me and my story.
