EDTL:3002 Technology in the Classroom Video Reflection - Duration: 5:33.

Hi my name is Claire White and this is my video reflection on my technologies

topic project on the digital divide. Personally I felt that my group project

on the digital divide went very well! Going into this unit I did not know very

very much on what the Digital Divide was so having the

opportunity to develop a lesson for this unit was a great way for me

to gain more knowledge on this topic. After creating this lesson I

think that the Digital Divide is a crucial topic that all educators need

to be informed on especially with the increase of technology in the classroom

and the one-to-one initiative.

Educators also need to know how to work with

students that may be affected by the digital divide such as having Wi-Fi and

technology at school but not having Wi-Fi internet access at home.

Creating the lesson I didn't really struggle in creating an online lesson as a whole but

one part that I did struggle with was making it engaging for the student.

I did not wanted to just be a PowerPoint and having audio and having

students just have to follow along. I wanted it to be more engaging for the

students and make them want to learn more instead of just being forced to

learn about it.

Before making this lesson a pretest was given out to the class and

then a post test as it was given after the lesson.

With the exception of one

question with the pretest ,all the students had a pretty good grasp on the

digital divide as most of the questions had an over 80% of correct answers

after the lesson using the result of the post test, the percentage of the correct

answers either stayed at 80 percent or went up to be in the high 90s or at hundred

percent correctness.

there was one question however regarding the specifics of

what the digital divide was, that had about a 50 percent correct percentile so

only about 50 percent of the class was able to answer what a digital divide was

correctly.

for future lessons we could spend more time on defining what

digital divide actually is as well as giving specific samples for

students to know what what it is and how they can see it in the real world.

I think my group and I worked really well together we decided ahead of time that

we would create a Google side presentation so we all could work on it

simultaneously and on our own time as well as collaborate all at once and

have to meet up in person we could meet up online and collaborate on the group

project

before making the group presentation we delegated

specific parts to people so they would know what to be working on and no part

to be left out and everyone knew that they had a part and what they have to

get done.

we are also in constant communication throughout

making this project such as we did Zoom meetings as well as we had a group chat

that we've created for this project to kind of text back and forth about

different questions about the project.

before submitting our project we did

meet in person to make any final touches or making any tweaks to the project

overall I think my groups are really well with each other and I don't have

any frustrations with the group effort. everyone pulled their own weight no one

was doing too little work and no one was doing too much work I think we all

delegated the work really well and it was very balanced one

thing I would change for this unit would try to make it more engaging for

the student

our project was pretty basic in that it was the same format

throughout the project with very little images or other things to keep the

students engaged with the lesson

changes I would make for the future would be

trying to add more images related to the topic, less words on the slides as well

as just make the presentation more engaging and fun in general.

I think the post-test assessment could have been a very valuable source if the

same amount of students that took the pretest of the post-test.

20 students took the pretest and only about 14 took the post-test. while I did see some

improvements in the scores I don't really know how reliable this data is as

there was not the same amount of people taking the post and pretest if you do

take the percentages from the differences of the post and the pretest

from the questions given, there was an overall increase in correct answers but

again there was not the same amount of people taking

the test, so I can't really see how reliable this data is.

I did find the other groups units pretty effective and pretty interesting to watch especially

when there's both audio and words and visuals (just subtitles). I myself use both

visuals and audios to fully grasp and engage with an online unit and most of

the projects had both of these. most of the projects also were pretty engaging

and were fun to watch and listen to well it's easy to follow along

I definitely do think these units are beneficial for my future career as a

teacher. I think online learning is definitely going to be more present as

more and more technologies being implemented into the classroom as well

as classrooms are becoming more one-to-one so one technology to one

students such as iPads or Chromebooks in the classroom. I think that online

classrooms if done correctly can be very efficient

especially for students that may not be able to make it to class or that are

falling behind and need to use the lesson is kind of a refresher just keep

on track the online classroom can be really effective if it is like an actual

face-to-face lecture or a lesson recorded. if a teacher uses this online

lecture as a face-to-face lecture this student will

become more engaged as the teachers acting that this online lecture is their

actual face-to-face lecture.

if the teacher just uses it as a way to submit

a PowerPoint with visuals or with vocals the student will not engage with the

lesson and the lesson will not be effective
