Viral videos posted on social media show, teenagers snorting condoms as part of a so-called

"condom snorting challenge."

In the videos, teens put an unwrapped condom up one of their nostrils and inhale until

the condom comes out of their mouth.

Like other viral challenges, the condom snorting challenge has been around for years but recently

reemerged on social media.

While teens may think the condom snorting challenge goes without consequences, it can

be dangerous, Bruce Y. Lee, a Forbes contributor and associate professor of International Health

at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said in a recent column.

Lee writes that with the exception of doctor-prescribed nasal sprays, "anything else that goes up

your nose can damage the sensitive inner lining of your nose, cause an allergic reaction,

or result in an infection."

He notes that the condom could also get stuck in the nasal cavity or the throat and cause

someone to choke.

He give a case study of a 27-year-old woman who performed oral sex on a man wearing a

condom.

The condom went down her trachea and into her lungs, blocked one of her airways, and

resulted in pneumonia and a collapse of the right upper lobe of her lung.

That would qualify as a bad oral sex experience.

Then there's the case report in the Journal of Medical Case Reports of a 26-year old woman

who accidentally swallowed a condom (again, with the emphasis on the word accidentally)

during oral sex and then subsequently developed appendicitis because a fragment of the condom

lodged inside her appendix.

While this does not necessarily mean that you should panic if you accidentally swallow

a condom (because you may just eventually poop it out), it does strongly suggest that

you should not deliberately inhale or swallow a condom.

Even if you manage to successfully pull the condom out through your mouth, inhaling a

condom up your nose would be very uncomfortable and potentially quite painful.

Toronto city council just approved an Open Data Master Plan

And it's going to guide us towards achieving our vision.

Where anyone, anywhere can improve life in Toronto using Open Data.

So what is Open Data?

It's government data, like public transit data, budget data, and performance metrics

that is free, machine readable and non-proprietary.

That means it can be used for any reason, including commercial.

Why does Open Data matter?

When data becomes open, it allows for new ideas and perspectives.

It unlocks the ability for infinite potential, whether you're an educator, a policymaker,

a developer, or an everyday citizen.

Open Data can do things like: help improve access to public services

engage citizens in government decision-making, and innovate approaches to civic problem solving.

Keeping these interests in mind, we developed the Open Data Master Plan.

It's a 4 year plan and roadmap developed using four key themes.

1. Foundation

2. Integration

3. Connection

4. Activation

The Open Data Master Plan was co-developed with the public.

We held 20 consultations with over 125 stakeholders that make up our diverse Open Data Community.

A 42-member public advisory group included experts from open data, government, planning,

business, accessibility, and privacy.

All information collected was made available to the public.

We release datasets that help solve key civic issues.

By prioritizing high quality datasets, we want to produce the highest public benefit.

We explore opportunities to improve city efficiency based on what we learn from the data, by promoting

data sharing internally across City Divisions and working with our engaged Community.

We introduce new ways of meeting the growing demands and usage of both our technical and

non technical open data users, by removing barriers and embracing inclusivity.
