Hey guys it's Trina and today I want to
talk about more series that I have quit.
I have done a video before on series
that I've quit like all throughout my
lifetime and since then I realized that
I had either left a few off or in the
past year there's been more series that
I'm just not gonna bother with any more
so here's the second part of that video.
The first one, I so sadly left off of last
year's list because this was really an
obvious choice - I will not be reading any
of this sequels to Slammed to by Colleen
Hoover. Slammed was my least favorite
book of 2015 and this is just a
horrible horrible portrayal of a
relationship in my opinion. I hated the
characters and I thought that the
writing was pretty bad, although I do
know that it was one of her earlier
novels so I don't want to hold that against
her too much. Besides that, I just
personally really hate the certain type
of relationship that was being portrayed
in this one and I also felt like Colleen
Hoover uses tragic events as plot
twists and plot devices in order to pull
at your heartstrings and unfortunately
these tragic events are things that I
have had happened to me in my past and I
really did not appreciate them being
used in that way. As far as I know there
are two more books in the Slammed series.
One of them is just a retelling of the
first book through the guy's point of
view and the other one is like an actual
sequel. I really don't care about either
of these. I don't want to know what else
happens to these characters because I
really didn't like them or the
relationship - unless the story's about
them breaking up. I'd read that! And I really
especially do not want to read this book
by the guy's point of view who was old
enough to freakin have known better and
I just don't want to read it from his
point of view where it was going to try to
justify everything. So nope. Nope. Not for me.
The next series that I will not be
continuing is Magonia by Maria Dahvana
Headley. This was another one of the
worst books I read in 2015. This book was
a mess. The plot was all over the
place while still refusing to tell you
what the heck was actually going on. I
actually DNFed this book two-thirds
of the way through so I don't know if
you ever got any answers but I have
heard from other people that you don't
but it's set up to tell you those
answers in book two.
I don't have time to sit around and wait
for these answers for two books, like you
should give me something in the first
book to explain like why the
thing is so important, why I should care
about this character being here and
doing these things. The writing and the
characters and everything about this
book was just trying to convince you of
how unique and different it was. That's
fine if your world is unique, your
characters are different, but every
single one of them was so special that
it just got on my nerves and I will not
be reading what happens in the second
book because I do not care.
This year I also decided to quit the
Rebel Belle series by Rachel Hawkins.
I believe this one is a trilogy and I
did really really enjoy the first book,
Rebel Belle, but then I read the second
book this year and it was... just awful!
I actually don't remember all the
specifics of what I didn't like about
the second book because that second book
was so forgettable and 'meh' to me. I
just know that I'm not interested in
seeing how that series ends at this
point. I don't care what happens to the
characters, the series did not turn out
to be the thing that I thought it was
going to be from the first book I guess.
I will not be continuing the Outlander
series by Diana Gabaldon. I'm pretty sure
you guys know why if you've been
following my channel for any amount of
time because I have talked about not
liking these books quite a few times and yeah...
I did enjoy the first book, Outlander,
when I read it but then this year
I read Dragonfly in Amber and I found out
that my reading taste and the things
that I pick up on now have changed and
this book did not improve the few things
that I was uneasy about from the first
one and in fact just amplified them.
Specifically, what I'm talking about is
that it uses rape in really
contradictory ways. At some points rape
is seen as punishable by death, which it
was historically accurate! Rape was a
crime. And then at other points rape is seen
as something to be romanticized, that
this main lead heroic character who's
handsome and hot and you're supposed to
desire him, he just cannot control his body.
There were also just other issues where
she clearly says she's living in fear of him,
it clearly says that he's shaking her to
the point where she can't talk. I
have been through an abusive
relationship and I really don't care to
read about them in a way that
romanticizes it so for me personally
this is not a series that I have any
interest in continuing reading these
books because these books are long, and
take me forever to get through, and I
don't enjoy them. I will not be
continuing the Me Before You series by
Jojo Moyes. There is a sequel to Me Before
You and I think it's completely
unnecessary, not to mention Me Before You
was horribly ableist and I really did not
like its message and I don't care what
happens to the character after that so
I'm not going to read it and I don't
want to support it, so BYE!
A release from this year that seemed to be pretty
popular but I just didn't really like it
is The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani
Chokshi. I did not enjoy writing, or the
characters, or the plot that was happening here.
I did feel it was amped up with a lot of
flowery words, like endless descriptions. I
did not enjoy this one, I don't want to
know what happens, I'm not going to be
continuing. However, I would say that I
would read something else by Roshani if
she ever writes a different story but
I'm just not interested in reading the
sequel to The Star-Touched Queen. I also will
not be continuing the Woodcutter Sisters
series, which the first book in the
series was called Enchanted. Although
Enchanted wasn't horrible, I'm not
interested in continuing the series
because these are fairytale retellings
and they're very straightforward
retellings and I found that I didn't
have, you know, that much interest in how
they were being retold. It's like
Cinderella and The Princess and the Frog
and all these other fairy tales are all
mixed up like what if these were all
like the same character playing
different roles in these different fairy
tales but besides that they were all
pretty straightforward. The second and
third book follow different sisters and
it's just been a long time since I read
that first one and I didn't find it at
that exciting so I won't be continuing
it. I have also quit The Internment
Chronicles series by Lauren DeStefano.
The first book in the series was called
Perfect Ruin. It's been awhile since I
read this one and I have finally decided
that I'm just not going to finish the
series but what this first book was
about, it's about a city in the sky, like
on a cloud that is floating in the sky
and they know that there is Earth or
something below them.
And then like I think somebody tries to jump off
of the floating city and then there's
like trying to uncover the secret of
like what the origin of this place was,
like how did they get the sky? Or
something. I don't remember what
all the details of this were but I found
it incredibly boring. I really didn't
like it. The ending of the book DID
actually make me interested in
continuing the series because I wanted
to know like what on earth does that
mean? What's gonna happen now? But the
second book was not out at the time. I
had to wait a while for it and by the time
it's was out - I think the series is finished
now, I think there are three books in it -
at this point I just really don't care. I
have lost my interest in it and this is
just a case of there are so many other
books out there that I want to read that
I don't want to go back to this series, sorry!
So those are more series that I have quit
recently or forgot about last time.
They're not worth it for me to continue
so I am breaking up with them. It is over.
