Hey guys, so today's video is going to be
my last wrap up of 2016.
I did kind of monthly wrap ups for
2016 except I skipped a couple months
and then grouped together a couple months
but for 2017 I'm going to be switching
to numbered reviews where I review
like books 1 through 5 of the year and
then six through eight of the year in
little videos, so that way i can remember
things better and I don't have to try to
remember things I read in the beginning of
the month. It just works better than
monthly reviews so I'm just gonna do
it that way because it's easier. But for this
video I'm just going to wrap up all the
things I read in October, November,
and December. In October I did an October
TBR where I unwrapped all my horror
books I have, but then I didn't read any
of them. I just read one volume manga in
october and that's it, that's all I read
in October. And in November, reading was
still not great. I don't remember exactly
how many things I read, but it was
mostly just manga. And then in December I
read like 10 volumes of manga and a couple
books.
This video is going to be mostly manga,
whatever. I'm not going to talk in depth
about the manga because there's like
twenty volumes, I'm not even exaggerating.
There's like twenty volumes to talk
about so I'm not going to talk in depth, I'm
just going to show you a collection
and be like 'these are my thoughts on this
collection of manga'. Anyway, let's get
started with this video, this intro is too
long. The first set of manga is
Prophecy volumes 1, 2, and 3. This is the
complete series, it's a cybercrime manga.
This is the one
volume of manga I read in October because
it was supposed to be scary or a horror
manga. It's not scary, it's a little bit
gory at times so I guess that could be
considered horror. But I just really
read this for the story mostly. It was pretty
good.
It wasn't anything extremely special,
but I enjoyed it.
The next book I read, this one was in
November i think and it's The Alloy of Law by
Brandon Sanderson.
I've already read this, it was one of my
favorite books of 2015, and I loved it
again. I just reread this because I
wasn't reading anything and so I decided
to pick this up to see if it would get
me out of my reading slump, and it
actually kind of succeeded a little bit.
I read this, I talk about this all
the time. I like this series of Mistborn
better than the original trilogy. I say
that all the time as well. So I read it
and I gave it four and a half stars
again because I love it a lot. The next book
I read is The Hammer of Thor by
Rick Riordan, the second book in the Magnus
Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. I've
already talked about this as well
because I mentioned it in my top five
books of 2016.
I love this and I think in all technical
sense this series, the Magnus Chase series,
so far, is technically better than
Percy Jackson. I know that's going to
annoy some people that I said that but I
hold true to it because Percy Jackson is
one of the series that I read in my
childhood so I'm very strongly attached to
it, and I am comfortable enough to say
that this series is, in all technical
senses, better Percy Jackson.
I love this, it's amazing. I gave
this like 4.75 stars. It's
basically a five-star book, there's just
a teeny tiny bit that felt a little tiny
bit dragged out. It was so negligible that
it did not affect my enjoyment of this book
in any way, but I couldn't give it a
perfect five-star rating because of that.
If I had to pick my favorite thing about
this book it would 100% be the
characters. Obviously I love every
character Rick Riordan creates basically,
except for there were a couple in Heroes of
Olympus that I could have done without.
They were okay, but they weren't
spectacular. But every character in this
book is spectacular. If you want to know
my favorite character, it's Hearthstone,
because I love Hearthstone. I love Hearthstone
a lot. So yeah, the best part about
this is the characters, but every part of
this book is great.
In November I read volumes 1 through
6 of My Hero Academia. This is your
typical shounen manga, and I must say, I
do not enjoy this as much as a lot of
people do. The first two volumes I was
not loving, but I was enjoying
immensely.
Then the third volume was alright and
then these three
I didn't like at all. I've read a couple
of chapters after this, the chapters that
consist of volume 7, and then a couple
chapters after that, and I'm still not
liking it very much, so I think I might
be dropping this, in all honesty, because
I'm just not liking it. I figured out
the reason I'm not liking it.
Well, there's a couple reasons. The first
reason is there are too many characters,
and when you have all these characters,
it's very hard to spend enough time
developing every single character. So
like there's a ton of characters and
they're all interesting, but they don't
really get any development because
there's so many and there's too many to focus on,
and there are just some that seem
forgotten and some that are in the
spotlight sometimes, but they're not as
interesting as the other ones we could
be learning about. The other reason,
probably the main reason, I don't enjoy
this very much is after the third volume
there is no sense of danger at all. I
figured out that when I'm reading
shounen manga and really any manga I
need a sense of danger, because if
there's no sense of danger than I do
not enjoy it and I do not feel invested
in the story. Those two are my main
problems with it. At this point I'm
dropping this, you can try to convince me
to continue it, but I don't know, I'm
not just not liking it.
I'm not liking it very much so for now I'm
dropping it.
The next thing I read is more manga. I
read volumes... hold on, I've got these the
wrong way.
Volumes 6, 7, and 8 of Attack on Titan. I'm not
going to show you the covers too much
because Attack on Titan covers
are the worst with the spoilers.
There's too many spoilers on the covers
of Attack on Titan, so I'm not gonna show
you them.
I am trying to catch up with the
Attack on Titan manga before the second
season of the anime airs in I believe
April. So I'm going to try to catch up
with these. I read these ones, I'm enjoying
what I've been reading. Six and seven
are still things covered in the first season
of the anime and a little bit of this is
also covered, but I'm pretty sure
the stuff at the end of this volume is
not covered in the anime, so its new
content that I read.
I'm pretty sure because I didn't
remember it. I'm enjoying Attack on Titan a
lot; there's no real specific reason I'm
enjoying it, I'm just enjoying it. It's
gory and there are some faces that are
a little bit creepy, which is something I
greatly enjoy, so yeah,
Attack on Titan. It's Attack on Titan. The
next thing I have to talk about in this
video is another reread and it is Six of
Crows by Leigh Bardugo, the first book in
the Six of Crows duology. I reread
this, obviously. I still gave this 3
stars after rereading it, but I
will say that my opinions changed a
little bit. I like the characters more
the second time reading it.
I was reading my original review
and for some reason I said the
characters were underdeveloped, but I
didn't feel that way the second time
reading it, so that's something to note.
But I must say, this is more of a book
that I like and not a book that I love. I
like the characters, I like the plot, I
like the setting, I like the magic system, but
I don't love any of those things, so that
means 3 stars to me. By the way, these are
not in any specific order. I mean the
books are, but the manga aren't. I'm just
collecting them in like the series. These are
not the order I read them in. I read them
in a whole bunch of different orders.
The next one is volumes 2 through 8 of
Toriko. This is again another shounen
battle manga. This one I am loving.
I am loving Toriko. It's mostly
about food, really, it's about gourmet hunters
who hunt food and fight it
basically. But I am loving Toriko a
lot. This series is not very popular that
I've seen, but I am loving it a lot.
I really like the characters, I like all
the different creatures that are created
in this and, I don't know, there's just
something about it that I really like.
I will note that because of the art style
all of the characters kind of have the
same face.
I know that's a weird thing to say, but they
all kind of had the same face except for
Komatsu who is technically the main
character, even though this is called
Toriko, who is another character. Whatever.
But yeah, I'm loving this and I'm going to
keep reading these volumes because I
like them a lot.
I don't know how I've been
filming this video for almost 20 minutes
already,
but this is the last thing I have to
talk about and I already mentioned it. It's
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. I
don't know why I stumbled over the title. The
second and final book in the Six of
Crows duology. I gave this 3 stars again.
I enjoyed it a lot and in fact, for the
first 400 pages I was
100% planning on giving
this a solid four-star rating, and then the
last 100 pages happened and it all fell
apart. Now I can't say the last hundred
pages were bad, but there were some
decisions that were made that I did not
appreciate and didn't really think were
necessary, so that was the deciding
factor in my rating it a three-star
instead of four-star. I will say that I
liked all of the characters even more
in this one, especially Jesper. Jesper's my
favorite character.
I also will admit that I did enjoyed
Kaz more in this book than in the second
book. He's still not a character I think
I can say I like, but he's a character I
can tolerate, whereas in the first one I
kind of hated him a little bit, but he
was better in this one.
I would have given this four stars
if it weren't for for the last hundred
pages. I can't say what the bad stuff was
in the last hundred pages because it's
just major spoilers. Also that was
something I was spoiled for before
reading, which sucked,
so it probably influenced my enjoyment of
this book and lowered it, but whatever, it
was three stars. It's a solid series, I
enjoy it. It's definitely not one of my
favorites, but I might even reread it
sometime in the future.
So yeah, that's going to do it for this video. I
don't know how this video got to be this
long, I don't feel like I was filming for
that long, but whatever. Thank you guys for
watching. My Goodreads and Twitter are in
the description as always. If you have
any thoughts on any of the things that
had to mention please leave them and in
the description below... description? in the
comments. Please leave them in the
comments, not in the description because you
don't have the ability to leave them in
description.
Anyway, I'm done patronizing myself, and
I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye!
