Are Americans really fat, stupid and lazy? A video about American stereotypes from a Swede - Duration: 9:16.
hello hejsan hej I am pixelpia welcome to my Channel today I'm going to talk a
little bit about American stereotypes from my Swedish perspective if this is your

upload every Monday and every Friday so without further ado let's get this
video started
an American is fat but obsessed with fitness and going to the gym
he is lazy and workaholic he is passionate about politics but don't vote
he's loud rude and arrogant but doesn't hesitate to give a stranger a compliment
he's stupid and know nothing about the world but keep on asking questions as
soon as you know you're from another country he is a gun lover that wants
more gun control and he has absolutely no fashion sense but still some of the
world's best fashion designer is from here for example Ralph Lauren and
Vera Wang there you have it the typical American but before I take a
closer look at these stereotypes I better start with the disclaimer like in
my last video I do believe that in every stereotype is a grain of
truth but by all means don't take anything I say in this video to serious after all it
is stereotypes and not facts and remember I am looking at the American through my
Swedish eyes if you got anything out of my descriptions before it is that an
American is probably full of contradictions so let's take a closer
look at the different statements I made let's start with the fat American who
loves exercise and going to the gym according to a recent Gallup poll over
fifty percent of all Americans exercise at least three days a week for 30
minutes or more at the same time at least 2/3 of all men in the USA are
overweight and for women that number is even higher so I guess on this point the
jury is still out so what about the lazy workaholic well
according to some studies the average American works about 50 hours a week
25 percent of the Americans have no vacation and the most common is to
have 10 days vacation per year if you compare this to Sweden where the maximum
workweek is 40 and everybody has at least 5 weeks vacation
you might seem like you're workaholics what about being passionate about
politics and not vote well if you look at it through a Swedes eyes you are very
passionate about politics you are not afraid of
discussing politics with people and expressing your opinions while in Sweden
discussing politics is a no-no and when it comes to voting if we take a look at
the midterm in 2014 only a little bit more than 31 percent of the eligible
voters turned out to vote in the same year Sweden had an election
to the Parliament and over 82% of the voters turned out to cast their vote so
what about the loud rude and arrogant American well I believe that this
depends on where you interact with American an American tourist in Sweden
might be perceived as loud and arrogant and I think that's because they aren't
aware of the silent Swede so compared to us you are loud and you're a bit
arrogant but if you talk about Americans here in the US you're very friendly and
outgoing and not at all arrogant and I love how you give people compliments out
on the street that is something that will never happen
in Sweden since US we don't talk to strangers so I guess we can't come to
conclusion in this case Americans are loud and arrogant and kind and friendly
at the same time then we have the stereotype that they are stupid and know
nothing about the rest of the world well I must say I'm getting pretty tired of
being called a Swiss or hearing people think that Sweden is the capital of
Denmark but I also think that Americans are very interested in learning about other
countries and my personal experience is that as soon as people find out that I'm
from Sweden they really start to ask me questions and are seriously interested
in getting to know me and my country and on the case that they are gun loving but
called for more gun control I'm not gonna touch this one at all after all I
am a Swede and I don't want to be part of any conflict and this is really a hot
topic oh and I forgot one that's very common
in my earlier description and that is the one that Americans are so rich I
have heard this so many times that I actually went in and looked up some
numbers and according to the UN the u.s. GPD per capita in 2017 was
$60, 055 that is number nine in the world while Sweden at
the same time was at $54, 043 and that is number
13 so I guess we can conclude that they are not that rich as everybody think we
are and finally about the fashion sense I love when people express their
personality through clothes whether it's fashion or not so wear whatever you want
whether you're American or Swedish I am NOT one to judge this is where I'm going
to end today's video next time I'm going to talk a little bit about Swedish
holidays and traditions and just the ones that we celebrate differently from here in
the US and some that you don't celebrate at all if you liked this video I
