We started from humble beginnings...
In 1989 ISF pioneered the idea of establishing
the first Islamic school in Dallas metropolitan area to maintain the
Islamic identity of our future generations. There was so much promise and
opportunity. I was there from the beginning. As a student everything was
really really new I think we were just still starting off
so BHA as a whole was new and we were campus wise we were in a small polk campus
it was very small I think it was initially like a daycare so it was very small and very
very old. Then we were the first graduating class. We were actually only four girls,
that's the seniors and then we had two juniors, so they just kind of had them
graduate with us and so we were 6.
I was actually in BHA from Pre-K 1 to 12th grade. They did a groundbreaking, they
invited many of the community members, many of the shuyookhs from different
mosques and I remember that a lot of people showed up when they bought the land and
they did like the digging , the ground breaking. BHA was a community project
right so everybody was involved, the whole community it was just so nice to see
everyone so united. There was no Islamic school whatsoever and people, till now
of course, people were coming from all over the nation to come to BHA
and I think the founding families of BHA put their blood, sweat, and tears to
make it. And they wanted to see this dream. They were working as if they
see it in their heart and believe it in their mind that it will happen.
When I first joined BHA, I noticed half the building with a basic skeleton. It
wasn't a usable portion at that time. When we started developing that further
and building that out, there was so much promise and opportunity to see new
classrooms, to see the actual space coming to life. The science labs now are
inhabited and actively used with multiple experiments. The biggest change
that I've noticed since I came to Brighter Horizons Academy was the gym,
the second floor,
soccer field, soccer lights, and the soccer score board. I feel also just like the
building itself has changed within the years, like they've added, other than the
gym, now like actual space for the kids to eat, and then the weight room. Now
there's like offices, before it was just like classes because the ECE has really
helped out. And even the ECE has changed like there's a media center, it's it's
amazing. I would like for it to become a three campus site. So we have the
elementary, the middle school, and the high school. In other words we need to
outgrow this facility. That just shows me that we are giving our students the
utmost opportunity in terms of expanding the building. As a college preparatory
school, we pride ourselves on providing the highest level of education for our
students. Since last year we have Alhamdulillah implemented the three-track
program to meet the needs of all of our students. Alhamdulillah, we have highly
qualified teachers who are extremely passionate about the subjects they teach
and Alhamdulillah this fact is evident in every classroom that I visit.
When I first came there was not a lot of options for our athletes, but now Alhamdulillah
with the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, also known as
TAPPS, we are against schools that are in the same league with better
competition and more exposure for our boys and girls. There's nothing more
beautiful actually than to seeing a field full of Hijabi's playing
and you know even on the court you know whether their playing volleyball, whether
they're playing basketball. It's just a beautiful beautiful sight. It's beyond
than performing the skills, and kicking the ball, or shooting the basketball. It's
a kind of Dawah. We are looking to add six-man football for middle school next year
In Sha Allah. We planning to have wrestling program for our boys. My vision
vision for Brighter Horizons Academy is to see the athletic program succeed in every sport.
Hopefully In Sha Allah soon our soccer team can win state.
By introducing Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic starting in Pre-K, we strive to
instill Islamic values in our students. We focus heavily on character building
through the IB PYP learner profile traits and attributes. Primary goal of
Tarbiyah is to help establish students with strong Islamic personality, help them to
be Allah-centered students all the time, and to make them love Islam and apply
Islam in their daily life. You take BHA - I look at it as a family.
allright? Every member in that family is important.
Now we have 825 students. Are we big? No we're not. Do you put a size on a family?
Like, this family is too big. Let's take the love element out of it. No you don't.
The bigger the family, the bigger the love. I sent my children to Brighter Horizons
Academy for the Islamic environment, the education. I wanted them to have no
identity crisis, I wanted them to learn Islam because my knowledge as well
is limited, so I wanted them exposed not only to the regular curriculum but also
to Arabic, Islam, and you know the Quran. What I envision
BHA to go from here, now that we have expanded this much, is to provide our
services where students don't have the ability to necessarily move. To use
technology and leverage our education and the quality of our education to have
them be able to access that from their homes. But honestly the first thing that
I would like to see in the future that it would be my top desire is to see that
the kids that we put in this system in this educational system to come back and
take over when we're ready to move out. Everyone was so dedicated to making this
school happen and of course for it to succeed and Alhamdullliah I think it has succeeded
Brighter Horizons Academy was an idea. A dream. Well how do you know your dream
