Nostalgia is certainly one aspect.

Les Videos in Zurich's Niederdorf district
is the last large video store in the city.
A few years ago, things were different.
In Zurich alone there were close to 40 video stores in 2005.

We're not at all old-fashioned, we're actually very modern.
We're operating a sharing economy here like Mobility.
Instead of cars, it's films.
We're a community.
You could also say we're a film cloud,
a physical cloud for films, for everyone
who wants to borrow films from us and who's a member.
In the meantime, however, the film aficionado has had
to modify the business model.
As an association with member contributions and thanks to a generous donor,
the existence of Les Videos
is financially secure at least until the end of 2019.
The industry association reacted to this trend.
There probably won't be many
real video stores any more in Switzerland.
Here at the association we stopped entering them
many years ago,
because the business model is dying out.
A relic of former times.
And yet, if Les Videos were no longer to exist,
many rare films would probably also be lost,
as they can't simply be downloaded
today via the Internet. 3
