Surround Speakers Build Video (Slideshow, English Text with Subtitles) - Duration: 2:07.Hi there, this in Marius Loubeeka.
Today I show you pictures from the build process of the surround speakers.
Unfortunately, I also didn't film any of this. For each of the two speakers
I use four pieces of the Visaton FRS 7 S.
Two drivers in parallel and two pairs in series in 8 litres (488 in³) total. The biggest part of the work
was to cut the triangles for lid and bottom because I only have a jigsaw.
Usually I order my wood cut to size from a [hardware store or building centre], but they only cut right angles.
Why those speakers have such an unusual shape you'll see in one of the next videos.
One advantage is at least that standing waves don't appear that much
inside because they can more easily be dampened by the sound absorber material.
Also special about them is
the line array. I use it because I want to create a particular radiation pattern.
At about 1.6 kHz is the transition from hemispherical to cylindrical radiation and at 5 kHz
starts planar radiation.
Here you can see those three types: at 1 kHz with a wavelength of 34 centimetres,
at 3 kHz with a wave length of 11 centimetres and at 10 kHz with 3 centimetres.
If the sound source is bigger than the wavelength nearly no sound is radiated to the sides.
The plan is, and I already confirmed with a test, to have the sound reflected from the side walls
to create a nearly as [spatial] effect as if surround speakers stand beside you.
More details in my next videos.
Thank you for watching!
