My Everyday Carry (EDC) - Just the Essentials (Watch, Wallet, Phone, Earbuds, Keys) - Duration: 2:32.

I'm all about simplicity and I think my everyday carry items clearly reflect that.

A last gen smartphone, a low tech watch, and a couple basic essentials to keep my pockets

as light as possible.

Hi I'm David and these are my every day carry essentials.

So starting off with the smartphone, nothing really too exciting here.

I'm using an older Nexus 5X, so this is far from the latest and greatest.

But it was and still is an amazing smartphone for me.

A clean and light weight design, a great camera that still holds up really nicely even against

current generation phones, and that price to value that the Google Nexus line offered

was really hard to beat.

Next up is my Wallet, It's the Bellroy Note Sleeve in a teal color and I like everything

about this wallet.

It feels premium, the cards and cash compartments are well laid out, it's thin enough to be

barely noticeable in my pockets, and the small inside pocket is great for storing a couple

coins just in case.

Carrying keys is annoying, they're sharp, they're noisy, but everyone has to carry

them.

I haven't found a perfect solution to holding them yet, so I just carry them with a couple

O rings, and use a latch to add or remove extra keys that I may need to carry throughout

the day.

I also just throw a small USB key on the chain as well for data on the go.

So I was keen on whole smartwatch, fitness tracker trend a couple years ago, but I haven't

found a product that really holds my interest so I'm back to using a low tech mechanical

watch.

It's an old Seiko Spirit (SCVS015) model that is driven by a spring.

Self winding through out the day with the rotating weight that you can see in the back.

Sapphire crystal face to keep it scratch free even after years of abuse.

And an elegant, stylish and minimal design that works well with my small wrists.

And finally headphones.

I'm always listening to music, so when I'm on the go I'm usually wearing my old Jaybird

X2.

While not the latest and greatest model from Jaybird.

These are still nice lightweight earbuds, that sound great to my ears, Bluetooth wireless

connectivity is a must for me.

And these use the standard micro usb connector so charging them on the go is no problem.

So that's a really quick look at my current everyday carry essentials.

Pretty basic, lightweight and as minimal as possible, especially for days when I'm not

carrying a backpack.

But hope you guys enjoyed this one.

You know what to do.

And I'll see you in the next video.

I know you might be wondering

Yes, that's a shower

But, if this is normal here, I don't think so, mate

I've lived here for nearly 3 years

But I'd never seen a shower with buttons like that

And did you notice that little rope

You pull it, then POW, you pull it and it turns on

Then you press a button and it works

When I saw that, I thought "Blimey!"

I felt at NASA, mate.

"Are you ready for the trip???" [Text Message from Stefano]

Almost.

Almost done, I'm almost done.

People are always asking me

What are my devotions

And what do I do when I wake up

For example, I like to wake up early, mate

But it depends on what happened the night before

For example, if I preached the night before

I usually wake up pretty whacked

Casting out demons, healing the sick, that's tiring, man

But like, today, I woke up, had that session with Jesus

I woke up and "Oh, Jesus!"

"Did You sleep well?"

Although I know that Jesus is the cleverest

He created the world like this

Spinning day and night

Because He loves the Sun, He loves daylight

So, man, it's going, He was in Japan, I don't know

So, I woke up, and put that song by Gregorio [Gregorio McNutt, American revivalist that lived in Brazil]

"OH, God, I need You"

And, then, I watched some guys that I enjoy

I enjoy listening to them, for example, there's this channel

It's a very good channel, I really enjoy it

I'm gonna leave the link down here, it's called "The Chronicler of the King" ["O Cronista do Rei"]

And it's not only because he's my cousin, because he is my cousin

But I think it's interesting how we grew up in the same family

How come he's such a good kid

And I'm this, this crazy thing here

Wo-o-o-o-ow

I'm bewildered

This is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, mate

But it's a really good channel, no jokes

Subscribe, you'll like it, kid's got a great mind

And it's a great channel, it's worth to watch

Link down here, subscribe, "The Chronicler of the King" ["O Cronista do Rei"]

Then I get "mi" Bible, I get "mi" Bible

Oooh, "mi" Bible, my friend

I have a new Bible, man, check this

It has red letters

The words spoken by Jesus are red

I feel like I wanna eat, I wanna eat these words

I'm in a very John phase

Every day, I open John and I read it

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" [John 1:1]

"He was with God in the beginning." [John 1:2]

"Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." [John 1:3]

"In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." [John 1:4]

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." [John 1:5]

I dig it.

But I prefer it when John says:

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us." [John 1:14]

"Full of Grace and Truth" [John 1:14]

"We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father" [John 1:14]

Only a passionate heart like John's could've written this, mate

There's a question I ask myself every morning

"Red Bull or Monster?"

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah Luca!"

"You only ever eat crap!"

No crap, only good stuff, don't call it crap

Otherwise my grandma will be angry at me

Don't call it "crap", tell my grandma it's delicious and very healthy

Of course, I live alone

If living alone doesn't allow you to eat crap

What is it for, then?

"Luca Martini!"

What?

"Why don't you become a fitness YouTuber?"

I must become fitness myself first, mate

First, I gotta stop drinking Red Bull and Monster

The run just like that lady over there

Nevermind, mate, I'm gonna take both

Goals, mate, goals, goals

You see, setting goals, I should think about it more often

I should take it seriously

"Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Luca Martini!"

Roberta is always telling me this, "Stop eating crap, boy!"

Coffee, hallelujah!

- This is Jamaican Coffee - Jamaican Coffee, yeah

You wanna say "Hi" to Brazil?

Hi to Brazil!

We have the best coffee!

Jamaica!

And it is really good, really good

Mate, you know I have this talent of missing coaches

I'm taking a coach to Edinburgh, to Scotland

And, mate, heavy traffic, we were never there, I mean...

It wasn't my fault, dad, it wasn't, not this time, seriously

There's no parking around this place!

I totally look like a backpacker, man, with 200 different bags

Too many bags

And there's me, a douche-bag

This I know, mate, always leave in advance

And make enough time to catch your coach, train, flight, whatever

Do it.

I have an 8-hour flight now

8-hour coach journey, I mean, I'll be there tomorrow morning

And off to preach

But, dude, spare yourself this rush, you don't need to rush

Thanks for keeping up with me

God bless you

See see see'ya!

Go, go, let's go, go, preach the Gospel!

How To Deal With Negative People - Duration: 5:38.

How To Deal With Negative People

You cannot expect to live a positive life if you hang with negative people. ~Joel

Osteen

How do you deal with those negative people that keep showing up in your life?

I have come to believe that nothing in this world happens by accident and that there is

a lesson to learn from everything and everyone.

What is a good man but a bad mans teacher?

What is a bad man but a good mans job?

If you dont understand this, you will get lost, however intelligent you are.

It is the great secret. ~ Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Well, apparently I dont always walk the talk.

I have to confess to you that I have times when I feel like I cant take it anymore.

There are people who know exactly what buttons to push, how to push them and when to push

them.

I am not perfect.

When it happens its like I cant think clear anymore and I forget everything I stand

for, everything I believe in.

It lasts for a while but then I go back to who I really am and what I really want my

life to look like.

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours. ~Wayne Dyer

It can be hard sometimes, it can be overwhelming but you can do it.

Those people that keep showing up in your life, they are there because thats exactly

where they have to be and you need to accept that and you need to look for the lesson.

If you like games, and I know most of you do, you will start having a lot of fun on

this journey called life, on this process.

When something negative is happening to you, when something terrible is coming your way,

when somebody at work, or at home, or on the street is really trying to make your life

harder, look for the lesson.

Those are the people who are here to teach you something, those are your teachers and

if you dont master the lesson you wont be able to move forward in life and you will

keep experiencing the same problems over and over again.

You will keep attracting the same people and the same circumstances that make you feel

so mad, so angry, so frustrated.

There are a lot of people out there who hate their jobs, hate their lives, people who lack

self-esteem and they are trying to do everything they can to make the lives of those around

them miserable too.

When you are confronted with people like this, dont let them get to you.

Always remember to look for the lesson.

Try to see why is it that they act the way they do.

Nobody is evil because they love to be evil.

I discovered that those people who are constantly looking for ways to hurt those around them

are people who are in a great deal of pain, people who have suffered and are still suffering.

People who have no love for themselves and people who see themselves as being worthless

and of no value.

It is a mask that they wear, a mask to protect themselves from more suffering.

Because they dont want to experience more pain, they act in ways that are pushing the

people around them away.

They act in ways that others find repulsive, unorthodox and self-destructive.

It is easier for us to judge and reject than to understand and empathize with them.

People cant seem to understand that nobody really enjoys this kind of behavior.

It is all an act, a mask.

And if you think you cant do this, if you think you cant understand their actions

and behaviors, if you dont want to understand it, then try to smile politely.

Smile and dont allow their toxic energy to get to you.

Dont allow them to make their problems your problems.

Dont allow them to make their frustration and unhappiness your unhappiness.

You have to be aware of the fact that its not about you, its all about them and how

they are really feeling on the inside, how lonely, sad, unhappy and frustrated with everything

that happened and is still happening to them.

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ~Anthony

J. DAngelo

They feed with your energy, they are energy vampires and if you show them that you are

affected, they will take advantage of you and they will take away all your power, all

your energy in no time.

This kind of people will show up in your life over and over again, there is no end to them

and this is why you have to learn how to deal with them, how to respond to them and how

not to allow them to affect you.

It is all in the way we choose to look at things, people and situation that will make

us feel frustrated, depressed, worried or positive, energized, powerful, blissful and

worthy.

Dont take anything Personally Nothing others do is because of you.

What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream.

When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you wont be the victim of needless

suffering ~ Miguel Ruiz

4 most OVERDONE Metallica songs | Andriy Vasylenko - Duration: 5:26.

Hi friends. Andriy Vasylenko \m/

Metallica i known as a band which makes long songs

Sometimes too much. More riffs, more

variations of the riffs, more sections.

Of course there are some exceptions like

Fight Fire with Fire, Motorreath, hardwired. But the

tendency to overdo song, and not only in

terms of duration, also in sound and

overall saturation, is thing for which

we might whether love or hate Metallica. Here's

my top four Metallica songs overdone one

way or another. I am NOT saying that the

songgs are bad nor that i don't like

them. I just found interesting to discuss it

with you guys. Express your tolerate point

in comment section below.

Death Magnetic album is overdone on the whole, especially

soundwise. The average duration of the

songs from Death Magnetic is almost 8

minutes. Some songs have kind of riff

balance. But The End of the Line is way

oversaturated, in my humble opinion.

For instance, the section before interlude

should have been twice as short,

not containing all the variations they came

up with. Maybe they attempted to make

another Master of Puppets, but instead of

that we have Frankenstein re-sewn

several times. Again, in my humble opinion.

A lot of us to degree, My Friend of Misery

is one of the most underrated

Metallica songs. It's based on Jason Newsted's

bas solo. They planned 'My Friend of

Misery' as an instrumental. But that

didn't happen. Why? Bob Rok, ladies and

gentlemen. The Black Album was going to

be the band's breakthrough into rock

midstream, and the mainstream demands

singing. So, they followed the Bob's advice,

or pressure, and added vocals to My Friend

of Misery. As a result, we got a song

which was played for the first time live

only two

decades later. What would be if they said

f[bass]ck it and kept the tradition which it

rooted to Cliff's era? They could keep on

working on the song, making it a worthy

follow-up of to Ktulu, Orion, To Live i to Die

and Jason would get more credit than too.

Yeah, this one is really some kind

of monster. Slow heavy riff which we may

consider whether incredibly groovy or dumb

and which caused troubles to Kirk 'The Ripper'

Hammett. And it's lasting more than eight

goddamn minutes. They shortened it in half

for promotional version. Okay if its

technical 30 seconds, or one minute. But four?!

It's a whole song like Hardwired

or Fight Fire with Fire. In fact,

St. Anger album is overdragged in general

and to make my point clearer - check out

'What if Hardwired was on St. Anger'. You'll get it.

I count ...And Justice for All as a perfect

example of how a long composition can

sound awesome and seem much shorter than

it actually is. It's just classic. But why

do I mention it here? 'We are not going to

play this song again!' That was said by

James Hetfield on Justice tour. Metallica

itself admitted, they overdid the song.

That's why there's a little chance that

we will ever hear the album played live

completely. By the way, I collected the

live versions of all the songs from

Justice album in one video, parlty

making the full live real, link in description.

Talking about long Metallica songs. Do you know which is

the longest one? If to count only

official albums, it's Suicide and

Redemption from Death Magnetic

exactly 10 minutes. But the biggest original tune

of Metallica is the uncut version of

The Outlaw Torn which appears on the B-side

or The Memory Remains single

10 minutes 48 seconds. Album version is

one minute shorter because of the

manufacturing restrictions. We can hear

there extended version of awesome

James Hetfield solo. Nonetheless there's

even bigger recording - it's Merciful Fate

cover medley from Garage Inc.

11minutes 11 seconds. And we have also a bunch of

live performances dragged over even 20 minutes.

I suppose that you don't agree with what

I said. Do you like that Metallica writes

such long songs? Write it in comments.

Next time we'll discuss

Spit Out the Bone, and why it might be the best

Metallica song since 1988. Subscribe to

my channels if you share the passion to

Metallica and metal in general, or if you

just like what I do. Become a patron if

you want to support me by 1 a month or more.

Thanks for watching. Andriy Vasylenko.

Music Festival Tips What Gear to Pack: Out of the Darkroom with Ruth Medjber - Duration: 7:56.

Welcome to Out of the Darkroom on

AdoramaTV.

This is the first part of

a very special series of episodes where

I'm going to share some trade secrets

with you, all about how to shoot music

festivals; what to bring, who to shoot

and where to share the photos.

So for those of

you who don't know me, my name is Ruth

Medjbur and I'm a professional music

photographer. All the tips that I'm about

to share with you come from my own

personal experience. However, it's

important to note that there's no

steadfast rules in this business. I'm

just sharing what works for me.

For the last 15 years I've been shooting music

festivals. I shoot about 10 to 15 per

year, mostly in Ireland where I'm based,

but sometimes across Europe too.

I've shot for magazines, newspapers,

commercial clients and for the

festivals themselves. In this episode

I will talk you through a full list of the

essentials, every lens to cover every

stage indoors and outdoors. As well as a

run-through of the extra bits I've

learned to pack over the years.

All the points I'm going to mention here can

only really apply once you've secured

your press accreditation in advance with

the festival organizers. If you turn up

at the gate with all of this stuff

packed in your bag and no pass you'll be

turned away. So have your email

confirmation printed out, or on your

phone so that you can show the gate

staff that you're legitimately picking

up a pass and are allowed to have your

gear on site.

First things first,

obviously you need your camera but don't

get hung up about the overall speck of

your body. If you've been booked to shoot

a music festival just go with what you

have. It's a good idea to bring a second

body if you have one, but you should

definitely have spare batteries for your

body. You'll be out shooting for hours

each day and coming across power

supplies can be tricky. So invest in a

good spare battery. When I'm buying

spares I always go for the genuine model

instead of the third-party brand as I've

had a bit of bad experience with them

running low really quickly. Do your

own research and read reviews

before you buy.

Memory cards are also something you

need spares of. I end up shooting

about 90 to 120 gigs a day on the D4S. I

split that over various cards so that

I can leave one importing in the media

tent and then I can go out and shoot

more shots. It's also a good idea to have

cards with a fast write speed.

If something incredible is

happening in front of you, like the lead

singer has stage dived into the crowd

and you need to be shooting furiously,

the last thing you want to do is suffer

a writing lag on your cards. One of the

reasons I chose the D4S is for the FPS

rate, the frames per second. I tend to

find this pretty crucial when shooting

live music so that I can get the burst

of shots needed to capture

live action shots.

Lenses, really you should be

bringing your entire arsenal of lenses

with you. Shooting a music festival these

days means shooting everything.

Doing crowd portraits, shooting the food, the

merchandise stands. You'll want to get

super wide to get the entire crowd in

some of the shots. Then you'll also

need to be on a Telephoto.

When your main stage

is over 10 feet tall and you need

that extra reach.

What I bring is the following;

a super-wide Sigma a Nikon

24-70mm which are mainly used when

wandering around the festival grounds

looking for good atmosphere shots. I can

also use it on some of the medium or

smaller stages.

I'll switch it up to a 70-200mm,

when I want to get either some

candid crowd shots from afar like in spy

mode, or I've hit one of the big stages.

I'll use the nifty 50mm as well when we're

shooting tiny stages with no lights, or I

want to do some f/1.4 work with some of

the products, food or the merchandise

Now flash. So you all know that you're

not allowed to use it in the pit but at

night-time when you're wandering around

the arena or the campsite some off

camera flash makes for some pretty

interesting light, so pack it anyway,

and have your triggers with you and maybe

also one of your friends can hold it,

or just pack a light stand.

Business cards; This might seem a bit nuts in a

gear list but you'll be surprised at the

amount of people that you meet down there.

Some of them might just be music

fans looking for copies of their photos

but there's still another Instagram

follower so share those cards.

A rain jacket for your camera. I know most pro

bodies are weather sealed but they're not

waterproof. There is a difference.

If you're in a wet and windy part of the

world, like I am sometimes, that rain can

come down in buckets and come at you

from all angles. The band might be due on

stage at nine o'clock you're in place in

the rain from ten to nine.

If they don't walk on until 9:30pm,

that's 40 minutes of getting soaked.

It's best not to have your camera exposed to

all of this. Invest in a rain jacket, you

can pick up cheap baggies if you don't

shoot a lot, or you can get a reusable

one if you're a seasoned pro.

Here's the other thing,

you'll be at this music

festival for three, maybe four days you

need to look after yourself too. So get

waterproof boots, jackets, hats, it doesn't

matter how stupid you look. When it's

lashing rain or freezing cold

you'll be glad of it.

If you do get soaked keep some

silicon gel packs in your lens cases

and at the end of your bag as they'll

absorb the moisture and save from

potentially cloudy or moldy lenses.

It's also a good idea to have dry cloths up

your sleeve, so you can quickly wipe the

raindrops from your lens when you're

shooting in the rain.

I've seen photographers being turned away from

the pit as they were wearing open-toe

sandals. This is a working pit with lots od

gear flying around. Have some sense, wear

work boots or you'll lose your toe.

Don't forget the laptop if you need to be

filing images throughout the weekend

make sure you have something to do it on.

I've seen newbie photographers rock up

to the media tent expecting there to be a row

of free computers to use.

Bring everything

you need to be self-sustaining; chargers,

hard drive, spare transfer cables

and mark your name on everything.

Believe me you won't be the only Canon charger

plugged into the socket panel. There

might be a hundred photographers in and

out of there all weekend. Sometimes you're

lucky enough that they have lockers to

rent, so you can dump your gear between

drop-offs, otherwise you might be running

back and forth to your car. You can

check this in advance

with your media contact.

If you're vertically challenged

like me, you just can't cope with the

weight of all of this gear, then invest

in some new methods of carrying your

gear. Last year I shifted the weight from

my shoulders to my waist. I put my lenses,

flash, other bits like my phone and my

wallets in this and I'm good to just run

around the festival for errors. If you're

shooting on two bodies instead of one, to

save time changing lenses in the pit

then grab a double strap. Personally, I

only work on one body at a time as I'm

consciously trying to slow down my

shooting style. So a comfy strap works

just as well for me.

Earplugs; Do you know how loud main stages get?

Imagine standing there for hours a day.

Best thing I ever bought was a pair of molded

earplugs. They can be a little bit pricey

but they are worth every penny. They'll

also help you get some much-needed

shut-eye in your tent at night. Speaking

of tents, don't be silly and buy one that

costs 10 quid. You don't want your gear,

your clothes and you to wake up drenched

every morning. Get a decent pop-up tent.

Sometimes you could be doing these festivals

completely on your own. So make sure you

can put it up and take it down

all by yourself.

Another thing I'm going to

recommend that your bring is a tripod.

Now, don't attempt to put this up in the pit!

If looks could kill then each other

photographer will have you dead in a

second. I'm recommending bringing it for

the nighttime ambient shots, when you

want to do something quirky like long

exposures of the carousel. You can keep

it in the car until you actually need it

but just make sure it's lightweight.

That's all from me for this episode.

you're at the music festival.

She and I went on the run

Don't care about religion

I'm gonna marry the woman I love

Down by the Wexford border

She was Nancy Mulligan

And I was William Sheeran

She took my name and then we were one

Down by the Wexford border

Well, I met her at Guy's in the second world war

And she was working on a soldier's ward

Never had I seen such beauty before

The moment that I saw her...

Nancy was my yellow rose

And we got married wearing borrowed clothes

We got eight children now growing old

Five sons and three daughters

She and I went on the run

Don't care about religion

I'm gonna marry the woman I love

Down by the Wexford border

She was Nancy Mulligan

And I was William Sheeran

She took my name and then we were one

Down by the Wexford border

From her snow white streak in her jet black hair

Over sixty years I've been loving her

Now we're sat by the fire, in our old armchairs

You know Nancy I adore ya

From a farm boy born near Belfast town

I never worried about the king and crown

Cause I found my heart upon the southern ground

There's no difference, I assure ya

She and I went on the run

Don't care about religion

I'm gonna marry the woman I love

Down by the Wexford border

She was Nancy Mulligan

I was William Sheeran

She took my name and then we were one

Down by the Wexford border

Top 10 Fascinating Facts About the WHITE HOUSE - Duration: 11:47.

Top 10 Fascinating Facts About the WHITE HOUSE

One of the most famous, if not the most famous, Presidential homes in the world is the White

House, which is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.

Over 6,000 people visit it every day, and it is one of the top tourist attractions in

America's capital.

Of course, besides being a famous monument, it is also a home that is steeped in history.

These are 10 of the most fascinating facts about the White House and the people who lived

in it.

10.

They Had A Design Contest To Build It

In 1790, Congress passed the Residence Act, which established Washington, D.C. as the

capital of the United States.

Congress also ordered that the capitol buildings, including the President's House needed to

be built within 10 years.

In order to find architectural plans for the house where the President would live, Congress

held a contest.

At the urging of George Washington, Irish-born architect James Hoban submitted his plans,

which Encyclopedia Britannica said was influenced by Leinster House in Dublin.

Hoban won the contest and his reward was $500 and a lot in D.C.

He was also hired on to oversee the construction of the President's House, which started

in 1793.

The second President, John Adams, moved into the house in 1800, before it was actually

finished.

The total cost of building the President's House (its name before the White House) was

$232,372, which is the equivalent of about $100 million today.

9.

It Was Built By Slaves, Freed Slaves, And Immigrants

In July 2016, former First Lady Michelle Obama made some waves during her speech at the Democratic

National Convention when she said "…I wake up every morning in a house that was

built by slaves."

After the comment, several prominent people said it wasn't true, or justified the use

of slavery by saying they were "well-fed" slaves.

However, Obama's statement was totally correct.

According to the book The Invisibles: The Untold Story of African American Slaves in

the White House, about 400 of the 600 people who built the Capitol, including the White

House, were slaves.

The other 200 were about 50 freed slaves and the remainder were poor immigrants.

The White House Historical Association confirms that slaves did help build the White House,

but they weren't government owned.

Instead, they just rented them out from slave owners.

Because that totally makes it OK, right?

8.

The British Burned It Down

In June 1812, the United States, which was only 36-years-old at the time, declared war

on Great Britain.

There were several underlying reasons for the war, but one of them was to take over

Canada, which was a British colony, and make it part of America.

Throughout the war, each side had major victories and suffered terrible losses.

One of the biggest military defeats for the Americans happened on August 24, 1813, when

British forces invaded Washington, D.C.

In retaliation for sacking York, which is now Toronto, the President's House was relieved

of a few souvenirs before it was set ablaze.

The ensuing fire nearly destroyed the building.

After torching the President's House, several other prominent buildings in Washington were

burned to the ground.

Rebuilding started soon afterwards and the White House was restored to its original architectural

plans.

In fact, James Hoban, who oversaw the original construction, was rehired to oversee the reconstruction

to make it as close to the original as possible.

The reconstruction was completed by 1817, just in time for President James Monroe to

move in.

After the Burning of Washington, the Americans fought back against the British and won several

important victories.

This led to the signing of the Treaty of Ghent on December 24, 1814.

Part of the treaty was that any captured territory by either side would be returned.

What's interesting is how this part of history is taught in schools in the United States

and Canada, who have had uninterrupted peace with each other since the War of 1812.

In the United States, students are taught that the War of 1812 was a war that earned

the respect of the British and strengthened the nation as a whole, allowing them to expand

westward.

Canadian students, on the other hand, learn that the War of 1812 was the one time that

the aggressive Americans tried to invade Canada and for their troubles, they got their capital

and the White House burned down.

7.

Why Is The White House White?

One myth about the White House is that it's white to cover up the fire damage that was

caused when it burned down in 1814.

However, that isn't true because it was white before it was set on fire.

In 1798, a lime-based whitewash was painted on to protect the porous stone from cracking.

Usually, the whitewash would have weathered and faded away.

However, instead they kept reapplying the whitewash until 1818, when it was painted

with lead-based white paint.

The house was originally called the President's House, but since it was distinctively white,

its nickname was the white house for almost a century.

It wouldn't officially become the White House until 1901 under President Theodore

Roosevelt.

6.

Pets There Have Included Alligators, Badgers, Bears, and a Dog Named Satan

Besides being home to the First Family, the White House has also had its fair share of

pets.

Out of 45 Presidents, there are only three Presidents who have no record of owning a

pet: Chester A. Arthur, Franklin Pierce, and Donald Trump.

In most cases, the pets were dogs or cats.

Abigail Adams had a dog named Satan, for instance.

However, it's also been home to some more exotic pets.

Calvin Coolidge had a menagerie and the main attraction was a 600 pound pygmy hippopotamus

named Billy.

Two different Presidents had alligators roam the White House grounds – Herbert Hoover

and John Quincy Adams.

Supposedly Adams kept a gator in the bathroom in the East Room and used it to scare guests.

Martin Van Buren was given two tiger cubs by the Sultan of Oman.

However, supposedly Congress made him donate the cubs to a zoo.

Finally, Theodore Roosevelt had a badger named Josiah and was given a bear, which his children

named Jonathan Edwards, by a group of voters in West Virginia.

However, he didn't have the proper accommodations for the bear, which Roosevelt called "queer-tempered,"

and he ended up donating the bear to the Bronx Zoo.

5.

Lyndon B. Johnson's Shower

Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, was a relentlessly hard worker

who was known for getting things done.

He was also a man with a strong sexual appetite who seemed to be obsessed with his own genitals.

He was known to whip it out whenever and where ever he wanted to.

So it really shouldn't be a surprise that he had some odd requests when it came to his

shower.

According to Kate Andersen Brower's book The Residence: Inside the Private World of

the White House, Johnson wanted to have several nozzles that switched from hot to cold.

He also wanted the pressure to be intense, like a fire hose.

Finally, he wanted a nozzle pointed directly at his genitals and to shoot up his rear end.

When the plumber said it couldn't be done, Johnson himself called the plumber and chewed

him out.

To inspire him, Johnson said, "If I can move 10,000 troops in a day, you certainly

can fix the shower."

So the plumber tinkered with the shower and it ended up with four nozzles.

One time, an usher apparently tried the shower and it pinned him to the wall.

When Nixon moved into the White House in 1969, he ordered the plumber to get rid of Johnson's

shower.

4.

Market Value

Before Donald Trump was elected President, we could say with certainty that the White

House would never go on sale; but now, who knows what will happen?

He is a real estate mogul, after all.

If he were to put it on the market, what would be a fair asking price?

Well, the real estate website Zillow came up with an estimate for the house, which is

a single family home with 142 rooms on six floors and about 55,000 square feet, and sits

on an 18 acre lot.

If you were to include all the historical artifacts with it and the hot tub that was

installed under Bill Clinton (because of course Slick Willie installed a hot tub), then it

would cost $398 million.

Or if President Trump wanted to rent it out, it would cost $2,079,473.

3.

The White House's Deadly Water Supply

The ninth President of the United States, William Henry Harrison, holds two Presidential

records and the common belief is that these two records are connected.

The first is that Harrison gave the longest inaugural speech, which he did outside on

a cold and miserable March day without a coat.

The second record is that he was President for the shortest amount of time.

He died on April 4, 1841, 32 days into his presidency, from what was believed to be pneumonia,

which he caught while giving his long inauguration speech.

However, according to Dr. Philip A. Mackowiak of the University of Maryland School of Medicine,

who did a modern-day medical investigation, Harrison most likely died of Typhoid Fever

and not of pneumonia.

The source of the typhoid fever was the White House's water supply.

Mackowiak also thinks that the water in the White House killed President James K. Polk,

who died in 1849, three months after leaving the White House, and president Zachary Taylor,

who died in office in 1850.

2.

Does It Have Secret Passages?

One of the most mythical elements of the White House is its secret passages and tunnels.

For example, it was rumored that John F. Kennedy used the tunnels to sneak out of the White

House to meet Marilyn Monroe.

However, that's all they appear to be – myths.

While there have been renovations of the White House over the years, including additions,

the White House wasn't really designed to house things like tunnels and secret passages.

The closest thing to a secret lair is the Presidential Emergency Operations Center,

which was built after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

At the time, the Council of National Defense urged Franklin D. Roosevelt to move out of

the White House because they thought it was a "firetrap."

His compromise was to build a bomb shelter in the White.

The Presidential Emergency Operations Center is in the basement of the East Wing.

It serves as the communication center and it is able to withstand a nuclear blast.

It's also important to note that the shelter is not the same as the Situation Room, which

is in the basement of the West Wing.

One notable time it was used was on September 11, 2001.

Vice President Dick Chaney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, among others, were

evacuated from their offices into the Presidential Emergency Operations Center.

1.

It Was Almost Torn Down In 1945 Because It Was In Such Bad Shape

By 1945, the White House had been lived in for 145 years and it was in rough shape.

Besides being nearly destroyed in 1814, there was another fire in the White House on Christmas

Eve 1929.

The White House was hosting a party and when the fire started in the West Wing, Herbert

Hoover left the party to oversee the removal of papers and documents from the Oval Office,

while the First Lady kept the party going.

The fire ended up gutting the West Wing, including the Oval Office.

Another problem was that the White House wasn't constructed to have indoor plumbing and electricity

and that was all added well after it was built.

This added a lot of stress to the structure of the building.

It got to be so bad that Harry S. Truman thought it was going to collapse.

In fact, his daughter's piano fell through a floor into the room below it.

The condition of the White House got to be so bad that it would have been cheaper to

tear it down and build something new in its place.

However, since it was a national monument Truman was against the idea.

They chose to gut the interior of the White House and rebuild it as close to its original

design as possible.

The reconstruction took four years, during which time Harry and Bess Truman lived in

Blair House, which is across the street from the White House.
