Vicki Briggs Video Blog-April 2017 - Duration: 2:18.

- Hello, I'm Vicki Briggs, the chair of the board

of the American Heart Association

of the greater southeast affiliate.

I was thinking today that I've been volunteering

for the American Heart Association for over 25 years,

and sometimes people ask me, why do you keep doing it?

And my answer is, there's still work to do.

And to make that come home to you,

I want to share with you a story

of something that happened just this month.

Two sisters, Kathy and Beth, both died.

Beth is a college professor

who actually teaches medical students,

and she didn't show up for work first week in April.

And her colleagues wondered why

and went home to check on her,

and she'd died, she had a massive heart attack.

Just a week later, her little sister, Kathy,

also didn't show up for work.

And her colleagues went to her home

and found that she had also died of a massive heart attack.

So, two sisters, one, the oldest of six,

one, the baby sister of six,

both died within two weeks of each other.

I was thinking about that earlier this week

as I was reflecting on what I should talk to you guys about

and this came to mind

as the most important thing that I could do.

So I ask Joe, the brother, of Kathy and Beth,

and his wife Diane if I could share this story.

And they said yes, and I wanted to read to you

why they said yes, it says, Vicki,

Joe and I are sitting and reading your request

and are feeling it would be a very special way

to encourage women and men to take care of themselves.

And honor Beth and Kathy.

Thank you for asking and remembering this family.

Their mom died the same way at the age 44 on April 12th.

So the month of April is gonna be a really tough month

for the family and for Joe, but it speaks so loudly

to why the work we do is so very important.

As I said, there's still so much work to do.

So today, I want to thank each and every one of you

for the contribution of your time

and your financial support.

And it's hard to believe, but this year

of American Heart Association is almost over.

By the time you'll be listening to this message,

we'll barely have two months left to reach our goals.

So I hope that you will all join me in working very hard

to move the mission

of the American Heart Association forward.

Hey guys it's Shiana here from ShianaHEALTH

and thank you so much for your interest

in our seven day plank group. So the way

that it's gonna work is on Sunday right

before the challenge starts you will get

a list of different planks and you're

going to do them. You're going to do them

to the best of your abilities and you're

going to write down that time when you

just can't go any further and then at

the end of the challenge, so seven days

afterwards, you're going to do the exact

same workouts and you're going to write

down when you're going to "fail" for those

workouts.

Now when I say fail guys this is good

because failure means that you're

pushing yourself. So you have to get into

that mindset where you're really pushing

yourself throughout this whole challenge.

And as you're going to see, at the end of

the week, you should be able to hold

those planks a lot longer than you did at

the beginning of the week. And the reason

for that is because every single day

you're going to get two different

challenges that you can do. So two

different plank moves that you'll do and

the whole point is to work on different

parts of your body. So you're going to be

working your core, your shoulders, your

back muscles, your legs everywhere is

going to be working with this plank. And

you're going to gain the strength so

that at the end you're going to be a lot

stronger with those planks that you did

from the beginning of the week. Now, what

I would like you to do is, fill out the

form below to make sure that you get

your spot into the group and then once

that's completed you'll get a link to

click on the Facebook group to join the

group. Make sure that you do that because

that's where all the magic is going to

happen. That's where you're going to get

all the planks, that's where I'm going to

be sharing also some nutrition tips and

some fitness tips with you. And then the

last thing if you know anyone that would

love to do this with you, send them this

link because then it's going to be fun

right like you guys are going to be

doing these planks together. You can

make it like a little challenge like
