So for a while now I've been carrying
this WWDC 2009 backpack for some basic
computing needs I'll show you exactly
what I carry in a minute but the other
day I was carrying this and I was in a
restaurant and I dropped it and my
laptop got dented and I decided that
this bag was not offering enough
protection for my clumsy needs and but
there's things I really really loved
about it and didn't really want to give
up and that's mostly because it's
basically what you see is what you get
and it's really thin so I turn it on its
height it's maybe like two and a half
three inches thick it's got padding on
the back because the straps are padded
it even has like this cute little pouch
on the straps that I never used because
I couldn't figure out what to put in
there and the inside is great because
it's just basically one big pouch right
one big pocket there aren't as if to
mess around with or anything it's got a
padded sleeve for my laptop and then
it's got some free space for whatever
else I wants to carry with me which is
not a lot this is what I carry in my bag
alright it's pretty low-key I actually
typically carry two bags they have my
electronics bag with all this stuff in
it and I carry a purse that has you know
like my fuzzy fountain pens and
ibuprofen and that kind of stuff in it
my wallet that's important great so what
I carry with me in my bag on a
day-to-day basis is this anchor a
battery pack this cute little pouch
which currently only houses a single
lightning cable rose-gold amazonbasics
lightning cable and I do carry other
things in it depending upon what my
needs are but right now I just need a
lightning cable my Eno over ear
headphone which are really kinda in a
way the bulkiest thing that I carry
under protest a power brick for my
macbook pro a canapé with a magic
keyboard in it this is a great great
product
my twelve point nine inch iPad pro with
Apple pencil and my ill-fated slightly
dented 15-inch MacBook Pros this is a
2015 model I think not one of the new
ones not one of the new thin ones with
touch bar right so this is all I carry
with me I don't need a lot in a bag so
now I'm going to tell you after a lot of
review I narrowed it down to three bags
and I'll show you the three bags that I
actually bought because I wasn't sure
what I'd want most so this bag by II
bags is the first one I ordered it's the
one that I really really thought I would
love turns out I didn't I'll go over
that in a minute so when the e bags
backpack didn't work out I decided to
order my second runner up which is this
ojio newt 15 which I also didn't like
and again I will go over that in a
minute
and finally the bag I decided to keep
which my husband found for me is the STM
grace and I'm actually going to cover
this one first that way if you're like I
just want to know which bag she liked I
don't care about why she didn't like the
other ones here you go
so first of all it's then I think it's a
little bit thicker maybe than the WWDC
bag but not by a lot
it's got padding cat here
padded strap so it's nice to carry it
has a nice handle on the top which is
sturdy and easy to grab and it doesn't
have a lot of pockets now in purses I
love pockets I don't like them as much
in backpacks just because I don't carry
a lot of stuff so I don't need
necessarily a lot of room for
organization but it has this front
pocket which is lightly padded and is
you know about I don't know a third of
the height of the bag and then on top of
that it's kind of an organization pocket
and you can see it's not very deep maybe
two-thirds of the bag
and and it has a key fob and just two
little pockets and then two pin pockets
on the side it also has this little
pass-through thing so if you carry a
battery with you you can actually pass
through a cable to either the laptop
compartment or you can put it in the
zipper in the laptop compartment and
pass it through to the front of the bag
so you just stick your phone in or
whatever and it can charge and I really
like that I don't have a lot of use for
it right now but I imagine it's going to
really come in handy when I'm traveling
this summer now
the laptop part of the bag is what
impressed me the most so it's got a u
zipper a u-shaped zipper and it's about
like 2/3 of the bag dams so you can
really fold it and see kind of what's
going on with your stuff in here so the
front has that zipper Patra it's talking
about you can put a battery pack in here
whatever accessories you needed to and
then it has this really really plush
padded pouch for the computer and it
also has a sleeve for an iPad now I have
a twelve point nine inch iPad as I
stated and it's really hard to find a
bag that fits the 13 inch iPad pro this
one does it really really well
alright so I've loaded everything in
here and now I'm going to take it all
out of it and show you how everything
fits together the way I've arranged it
so in the first little padded pocket
it's where I keep my power brick charger
thing and that's where I keep that
little pouch with the lightning cable on
it in the larger front pocket that
little works is the organizational
pocket that's where I put my anchor
battery pack which for whatever reason I
insist on keeping in this case I don't
know and my Apple pencil and I do have a
little elastic band that fits my pencil
in it on my iPad but it
fit in the pocket with what I have it in
this bag my one little complaints I
think with this bag is that the key fob
kind of hangs out I don't actually put
my keys on here so it has a tendency to
kind of pop out of the bag and then I
try to zip it up and it won't zip
because the fob there but it's really
minor in my opinion and then in the main
laptop compartment I don't actually keep
anything in this front and zippered
compartment and if I had a 12-inch
MacBook I would maybe look into getting
a larger battery that I could actually
use to charge my macbook because I have
such a huge huge computer I don't do
that but you can see that my headphones
fit right here and they don't shift
around I really like that Micanopy
mix to do neat canape I keep further
down in the pocket and it just slides
into place really easily and then of
course the sleeve for my iPad and
finally my computer the thing I like
most about this bag is that my iPad and
my computer my laptop do not touch the
bottom of the bag in fact they don't
really touch the edges at all this
cushioning bit is sewn in really well
and the computer and iPad just kind of
sit suspended in it really really love
it and I've been carrying this just for
a few days now but I'm really enjoying
it really easy for me to carry over one
shoulder the WWDC bags that I was
carrying I would put it over one
shoulder and it would kind of slide down
and be uncomfortable but if I'm only
going you know a block or two I can just
fling this over a shoulder and not have
to put it on completely and I really
like that this bag is as far as we can
tell really
newly released as we record this maybe
even a week or so ago so we couldn't
really find many videos on it and when I
say we I mean my husband and I
and it comes in this navy blue color
which I really like because I like blue
and the navy is dark it goes with
everything and I'm not super concerned
with color matching but some people are
it also comes in this kind of purple to
magenta color where the the bottom part
is a darker purple and the top part is
kind of a purpley pink color it's really
pretty but I decided to go kind of with
the more simple colorway the next back
I'll talk about is the OG o nuke 15 and
the reason I'm going to highlight it
next is because I actually couldn't find
a lot of videos of this bad online this
is a revision to a previous version of
the newt 15 you can tell the difference
between them because the original newt
15 has kind of three metal things going
down into the side of the the front
pocket and this newer version I haven't
seen a lot of a lot of information on it
doesn't really have reviews on Amazon
even so if you're looking at this bag
here are kind of some stuff on it so as
you can see it's also a fairly minimal
bag not necessarily minimal I guess it's
really thin bag one thing I really like
is that on the back it has kind of these
a ridged padded parts but there's lots
of room for airflow through them which I
appreciate it also has a sternum strap
as which I don't think is actually
detachable we kind of messed around with
it you can slide it but I don't think
you can take it off so if you're not at
all interested in the sternum strap and
you'd either need to break it off or go
with a different bag ok flipping it step
over to the front this has a lot of
pouches a lot of zippers which I kind of
liked it first but then I started trying
to fit my stuff in it so first of all on
the front we have this little angled
zipper which looks meat right and it
goes down all the way to the end of this
front pocket so that I mean that's
probably good eight inches any way that
it'll go down and so deep it wouldn't
necessarily be good for putting like
small items and that would go to the
bottom the next zipper
pocket just does that and is actually
like the organizational pocket so on the
front it's been space free to put I
don't know business cards credit cards
some pencils or pens which I didn't
understand because if you fold the flap
down while you have something rigid in
there you know it's going to go not far
enough or it's going to be complicated
this pouch also goes down to the front
to the very end of where that that front
pouch ends it also has these kind of
mesh elastic things in it and this I
don't know
meet soft fabric on it so it would be
good for stowing things extra battery
packs or whatever the next big pouch is
actually where the tablet compartment is
and it's got again more of those mess
mesh storage things it's got a key fob
and within a zippered pouch on the front
it has elastic pocket and the tablet
pouch does actually fit my 12 point 9
inch iPad but it has this pocket things
that velcro's in the back so I either
have to flop that over my iPad or I have
to rest my iPad on top of it and it's a
padded pocket so it's fairly thick I
don't necessarily feel comfortable
having my iPad resting on top of it
ultimately that's one of the major
reasons why I rejected keeping this bag
it does have this top handle which is
padded it feels really sturdy it'd be
really nice to carry it with that but
you know it also has a little pocket
under the handle which I figured was
probably for storing a phone or
sunglasses but I carry an iPhone 7 plus
it doesn't actually fit in the pouch it
needs to be 2 inches bigger in some
dimension for my phone to fit in there
easily or at all
the second-to-last pouch is the laptop
compartment
it's an else--if closure instead of a u
so you might feel a little bit more
secure keeping your bag in there
especially if you carry if you carry
your bag somewhere where there's a lot
of foot traffic and it would fit my
15-inch laptop and my iPad but I didn't
really feel comfortable putting it in
there it is padded but it's not
extremely padded so it just doesn't seem
like the best fit for me and the funnel
pouch or zippered compartment in this
bag is actually almost hidden on the
side in the back here and it runs the
whole width of the bag and so it could
be kind of a surreptitious pocket for
things you wanted one of them easy to
access because you could sling it over
one shoulder and but ultimately for the
reasons I stated this is not the bag for
me and finally the first bag I ordered
the one I thought I would love is the e
bags TLS professional slim junior laptop
backpack it's a really simple name kind
of rolls off the tongue let me show you
what I loved about it and the reason I
thought that this would be the bag for
me and it has a lot of organization and
like I said I'll be traveling the summer
so I thought it would be wonderful for
me and it's got on the front bottom it
actually has a hard container where you
can store whatever charging cables or
whatever you need to store in here I
don't know a soft launch fruit doesn't
matter you could put it in here and it's
actually really sturdy which I love I
thought that would be perfect for
storing my chargers and cables where
they'd stay out of the way and not make
the bag pole look weird or feel weird
like I said it's got a lot of pockets I
even forgot about one as I was planning
this video right here on the front
there's a pocket where you could easily
store travel documents or your phone or
what
ever it also has this larger pocket this
one's three sides so you can open it up
nice and wide and a set a bunch of
zippered pockets that has a place where
you can put credit cards or business
cards it has a little elasticized
pockets in it so I thought I could split
my battery pocket in there so it's got a
lot of storage a lot of organization and
which I thought would be wonderful for
travel it also has on the side a
zippered compartment for your water
bottle and then if you're not using a
water bottle you can put it away and I
put my 24 ounce insulated Klean Kanteen
in there without any trouble so it'll
hold a pretty big water bottle now you
can see now that I have it on its side
it's actually pretty big if I don't know
five or six inches anyway so even though
I have sliminess name it's not as slim
as the other bag it's also the heaviest
it's something like three and a half
pounds without anything in it whereas
the spm grace bag that I decided to keep
is under two pounds so it's really
really a light bag moving along on this
eBags tour you'll notice that all the
rest of the zippers are l closure
zippers which means that they open on
two sides as opposed to like a u-shape
that we commonly see with backpacks this
front one
has kind of the shelf on it and it has a
magazine pocket so you could put papers
in there I thought about putting my iPad
in there but ultimately decided that I
didn't feel like that was protective
enough this this part here rests on the
front I guess
garage part so you can actually take
that out and have a full compartment
here I'm not going to do that you can
find videos where they demonstrate that
so I'm just going to skip it
it also has this zipper on the top which
is a tablet pocket I think I'm pretty
sure this would be big enough for a nine
point seven inch iPad but my 13 inch
iPad does not fit in here
and then finally plug it wise anyway is
the laptop pocket it's got a pocket in
here and it also has some padding on the
bottom so if you wanted to take that out
to house a larger to us a larger laptop
is like a 17 inch laptop that would work
I thought I would really enjoy having
this for extra padding on my 15-inch
laptop but at the end of the day I
wasn't really impressed by the padding
in this bag I'd watched a lot of reviews
about it um but didn't really feel super
confident in its abilities to keep my
laptop protected given my clumsiness
some more features that I really love
about this bag it has two carrying
handles so one is on the top like you
would expect and it also has one on the
side so you can carry it like a
briefcase if you want to when you're
going through security or whatever just
fell on a side and you want to carry it
around the other thing I love and this
will be a weird angle is that it stands
up on its own the stems the STM bag that
I decided to keep does not stand up on
its own it kind of makes me sad and but
that's okay the back of the bag is great
again lots of padding lots of air
chances for airflow and also the straw
detach so if you're going through
security or you're going going through
the airport you can actually detach the
straps so they don't get in the way it's
got a bag pass through two ways both
what plies and links wise which is
wonderful and then the straps just
tacked and the straps just tuck away in
that bag bypass but the thing that I
disliked was that the hardware is
plastic so when I want to attach it this
is all a hard plastic that I would be
concerned would break while I was in the
middle of a trip and and that was the
first first clue I had that this was
probably not the bag for me is that the
hardware was was not metal and that was
concerning
other than that though people love this
bag it had a lot of great reviews so if
that's not a deal-breaker for you and
the weight isn't a deal-breaker for you
and you love organizational packets go
for this bag because it really is great
and this indigo color is beautiful it's
like a dark denim color and I love it
it's gorgeous blues my favorite color
okay so at the end of the day I had to
go with the grace I think it'll serve me
really really well and as a bonus it was
the least expensive of all three bags
that I chose to take a look at and I
hope this helps you if you're like me
looking for a minimal bag and you came
across maybe these flurries these three
or even just the ojio Newt bag and
wanted more information I hope this is
what you needed they're actually just
tucked Hillary
that's my helper
all right off the back please
I got a return it not like I got a
better return stick let's see Justin
you don't - Jessie that's really deep
and you could keep a whole cat in there
you have a great hair just go can hardly
see you
