Somatic symptom disorder, which used to be called somatization or somatoform disorder,

involves having physical symptoms that aren't explained by any known physical or mental

disorder - in other words, symptoms that can't be explained.

That said, individuals aren't 'faking' the symptoms, these symptoms are real and

often made worse by the fact that they cannot be scientifically explained.

And this is pretty different from situations where an individual with a factitious disorder

might fake an illness or injury in order to get attention.

The diagnosis requires that individuals experience some set of unexplained physical, or somatic,

symptoms for at least 6 months.

The symptoms experienced by individuals with this disorder, though, can be incredibly varied,

everything from pain to gastrointestinal problems to sexual symptoms.

And although the somatic symptoms are chronic, the exact location, kind, and severity of

the symptoms typically changes over time.

The one symptom that does often persist over time is pain, and because it's persistent

and has no clear underlying cause, it can be particularly hard to treat.

Somatic symptom disorder often causes cognitive symptoms as well, and these include persistent

thoughts and feelings about their symptoms—usually a lot of worry and anxiety, and sometimes

even catastrophic thoughts about death.

More often than not, it is these cognitive symptoms in response to the physical symptoms,

more than the physical symptoms themselves, that become a basis for this diagnosis.

In fact, clinicians rate the severity of somatic symptom disorder based on patient experience

with these cognitive symptoms, not the physical ones.

The condition is considered mild if there's only one cognitive symptom like ruminating

a lot on the symptoms.

It would be considered moderate if there are two or more cognitive symptoms like rumination

as well as anxiety.

And it would be considered severe if there are two or more cognitive symptoms, as well

as multiple physical symptoms or one severe symptom, like severe pain.

These cognitive and physical symptoms often disrupt an individual's daily life as well

as their relationships.

Unfortunately, the diagnosis can be tricky and confusing given that the symptoms shift

over time and that there is no clear underlying scientific explanation.

Historically, it was thought that somatic symptom disorder was the result of a person

having too much psychological stress, and that "excess stress" bubbled over and

led to bodily symptoms.

A current theory is that individuals with this disorder are extremely sensitive to changes

in their bodies and that common experiences like indigestion might be amplified in these

individuals.

One everyday example of this would be how different individuals might perceive the same

amount of spiciness very differently, for some it's tasty and for other people the

exact same amount of spice is perceived as pain.

Now, treatment of somatic symptom disorder is aimed at diminishing the cognitive symptoms,

and this is often done through cognitive-behavioral therapy.

The goal here is to encourage individuals to engage in behaviors that they think are

limited because of their physical symptoms, in order to show them what they are able to

do.

All right, as a quick recap: somatic symptom disorder involves physical symptoms that cannot

be scientifically explained by any known physical or mental disorder, and the most common one

is pain, and these physical symptoms often lead to cognitive symptoms like rumination

and anxiety

okay guys welcome back really excited

New PJ Masks Talking Gekko with Catboy,Owlette, Unboxing

gecko this guy is a really good size

figure and he does talk when you push

his amulet button let's go ahead and

listen to him so this guy is really cool

i already did full reviews and fun

parody stories where they're like

fighting dinosaurs if you want to check

out my PJ masks playlist and also if you

do like this bigger i'll have a link in

the description below the video where

you could buy him and cat boy and I'll

let figures so let's go ahead and free

him and check them out and here's a look

at the back of the box is just just kind

of boring so let's go ahead and check

this guy out and guys I have done

reviews on pretty much all of the PJ

masks toys and their vehicle so if you

want to check out the playlist at the

end of this video I got a lot of them in

there I really like PJ masks and my kids

love PJ masks we watch it all the time

so it's awesome ah let's first go ahead

and take a look at him so okay his head

does not turn but his arms turn 360

degrees he can move his arms out so you

could put him in two different poses

like are almost curry Greco monster

then you could have him sit down stand

up so uh he is really cool i really like

the fact that they have them talk here's

a look at the back of him here's all

where the speaker is and where you would

put in the battery I believe it uses

watch batteries because it's not big

enough to use any other ok ok so here

are the other three other two big

figures so I would have all three you

got the cat boy one and the owl at once

and they all talk and these are the big

figures because this is the normal size

figure you get here with a lot of sex

and what you could buy separate and

those are the ones that actually fit in

the vehicles Wow ok today we have a lot

of pj math toy these are all the ones

I've unbought so far on I'll be having a

lot more of them against what I've seen

from the Toy Fair this year they're

going to be coming out with a lot more

of PJ masks toys if you do want to see

all of these being unboxed and cool

parody videos battles with dinos and

stuff go to the PJ masks playlist at the

end of this video so here was the giant

talking outlet

and then I'll let deluxe vehicle which

is really cool if you push it the wings

flap you also have a button back here if

you push the wings also flaps it makes

sounds different noises different ranges

from the show and the eyes and the front

light off like I said full review at the

end of this video and if you do like any

of these toys i have a link under the

video where you could buy these toys

also and then we have the big-talking

gecko and then you have the gekko-mobile

the deluxe gekko-mobile which is really

cool if you move it the back tail moves

back and forth and these spins go up and

down it speaks different phrases

and it plays the theme song and then you

have the cat will be 0 which comes with

cat boy and if you move it the front

lights light up the mouth opens and

closes and also this one also has

different phrases from cat-boy and from

the movement from the TV show and the

theme song of course and then you got

the giant capsule a and then you have

their all sub 3 level headquarters with

a lot of really cool features over here

you have a dropping net so bad guys come

in the door next is drop of that so this

is the geckos level opening door for his

car to drive out you have a working

elevator here that moves up and down so

you can have it go to any of the levels

and then this here would be cat boys

level there you can see Luna girl three

different cap off boys I opened up

there's the cowboys card this off door

here open the cap boys Clark could drive

right down the ramp here it has a ramp

in the back up showed you as a minute

his car can go right down that ramp it

has a little exercise area therefore

cat-boy oh that is cat boys regular

vehicle that you could buy separate also

and then i'll let has a

vehicle to their deluxe vehicle here you

see i'll let and Luna girl once again

this back here opens up so she could

drive her car out and then go down the

ramp she's got like a video screen here

and up here is where the elevator pops

off so the floor actually lifts up your

characters to come right up here with

Kepler seems to be stuck in the elevator

at the moment if you put them in

correctly they actually lock into place

here on the elevator or you can move

them up and down without them falling

off all the time ok and then let's check

out the ramp ok so here is a back of the

set with the ramp so if their cards come

down and comes right out here down the

ramp and they are ready to save the day

PJ masks into the night to save the day

awesome so like I said that right now is

the bj Mac noise that i have i have a

few other sets that have like a another

Romeo I got another set that's got like

night ninja in it I will be reviewing

those suit up I just wanted to show you

Jurassic World - The Game Dinosaurs Ludia Episode 35 Kaprosuchus HD - Duration: 21:16.

wow guys is great to see you again i'm

so glad you came back welcome back to

jurassic world the game episode 35 guys

this is awesome right now ah in this

episode i believe i'm up to about level

40 ah library my recording and release

are about a week apart so i finally on

level I think 40 or 41 you need to have

15 level 40 dinosaurs I finally got past

that I mean it's it's in as a pain in

the butt guys but one thing you've got

to remember is they don't have to be top

level dinosaurs and they could be

duplicates I mean right now I've got

three level 40 Triceratops and three

level 40 majungasaurus is so I mean I

don't like doing that because it seems

like a waste of DNA but without that I

mean you would wait like months to get

off up to that point okay and this here

is odd this is part of the story story

line here so this is one of the guys you

gotta be

I mean one of the levels you have to be

so uh I'm coming up against the

Megalosaurus actually now I apologize I

don't believe this is the storyline like

I said I am ma recording the song about

a week after I recorded the video so we

will see ok Pteranodon against the micro

besaurus and guys the other thing was to

you the level before that one ok the

other thing was the level before that

guy's you needed 60 dinosaurs to all

progress and I mean I had like 32 or

something but once again you don't need

all top level so at that point just by a

bunch of all likes cheap dinosaurs by

the maximum your log 12 of each of the

cheaper dinosaurs because then you could

convert those to the level 40 s to pass

the next objective which I believe was

for level 41 ok so here my Spinosaurus

wins and guys a lot of the rest of this

episode is going to be a tournament

battles I'm in the tournament for the

sake seka don to Saurus so i'll be doing

a lot of tournament battles let me know

Jurassic World - The Game Dinosaurs Ludia Episode 35 Kaprosuchus HD

they are a lot of fun and Here I am uh

upgrading my Sarkis hookahs to level 20

this guy is awesome he is legendary so

it cost he cost I believe 3200 DNA but

this guy will save you in so many

battles you could use him as an anchor I

mean against this guy Oh decimate just

about any carnivore

there I mean he is amazing how strong is

okay so this here is another tournament

battle so here are this is my second

second second rate team as you can see

I've got 20 amphibians in the herbivore

my first rate team is a level 20 t-rex

level 20 Pteranodon and the level 40

Spinosaurus so with that team I mean I

do really good at the tournament's up to

the top 10% once I get to the top 5%

everybody's got like super maxed out all

hybrids which you don't stand a chance I

mean they decimate you it's it's it's

crazy but all these tournaments are

really good at you building up your

skill and if you start winning then ah

on the prize wheel you could win some

cool prizes I mean I've won a super-rare

card pack I've won think a couple rare

uh quite a few of the surprise ones so I

mean it's you know there is there is a

lot you could win there and uh the best

thing is to look for blocks of DNA

because usually sometimes they'll have

like six or eight blocks of DNA and then

if you click on like the card pack

before that a lot of times you have a

good chance of it rolling into the DNA

and getting a really good price so here

I just decimated their guys so here

herbivore verse herbivore

and guys tournament battles everything

you learned in the regular storyline

battles is out the window because

tournament battles you got to watch it a

regular storyline you could build up

your reserve points usually up to six or

eight but over here uh I'm not really

sure if you're facing real opponents

real people or not but what I know is is

totally different than the regular one

so here that's what i was talking about

hunter the top 10% here I'm 73 I do get

to number one in there and then I took

some time off and I lost it so okay see

here this is the prize what else talking

about look for like groups of stuff and

then click something about seven or

eight before that so usually what I'll

do is I'll look for a card pack before

that one I mean you're not always going

to land on the block but you have a much

better chance see here I'll roll right

past it i'm gonna land on coins which to

me is worthless so depending on what you

need to if I mean if you need cash then

i'll look for blocks of cash but usually

the coins at this if you're at this

point in the game they're worse let's

see this guy here he attacked right away

you'll get down a lot in tournaments and

that guy almost always loses so I mean

these games you got to be patient guys I

mean the main thing is to build up your

reserve so you could have major attacks

to wipe out the dinosaur

I mean you don't want to just attack so

here you see off my favorite method is

usually when i get up to about 4 or 6

i'll go right there see a block to i

usually do to reserve to block that way

most of the time you could keep yourself

from getting white doll so here i did a

tackle five and i wipe them off so i

mean you can see two i mean if they

attack you with everything then they've

got nothing left see this guy here has

four or four okay see he attacked one

he's got okay so he wiped me out but

right there he's got three moves left so

right now if I had a dinosaur that could

wipe them out with one I probably would

attack but your best bet is to build up

your reserve so here I did again a two

block to reserve so this guy's up to 5c

attacks live in huh okay he wiped me out

sooo okay my spine thesaurus I used this

guy's an anchor and a lot of battles I

mean keeping him for the last so here

once again I did three attack and to

block so you because you want to protect

your guy from the next one coming in

Cassie he attacked me for okay I did

three block I apologize so uh he only

got me one and he used everything so I

know with the attack of four out easily

wipe them all so then uh victory for my

spine Oh again I've won so many

tournament battles with this final as an

anchor I mean he makes an amazing anchor

I mean I know if I get into the hybrid

see here I got a mystery pack mystery

packs are good see right there 240 DNA

so and here is victory sorry guys uh I

didn't get my recording software up in

time for that I didn't see it wasn't

running so I mean uh by time I seen it I

had already won the battle so here I

move up to position 47 one thing I

didn't know about these tournaments is

though I'm in the top 10% there's a top

5% in the top 1% see here i want i win a

rare pack so rare packs will also do so

that's one great thing about tournaments

if you could win them you win some

really good prizes sometimes you will

win a lot of coins and a lot of meat

okay son looks kind of tough pool boy

this red asaurus up okay looks like they

got a level 220 I Met Your Gun

okay he's in the attack so I've got

three usually I like to build off my

reserve at this point and there I go hey

he had three well he did not attack I've

got five now so it's still you want to

build up your reserve so I did 24

reserve free for block so that guy

blocked with three right there and then

I've got six at this point yeah i'm just

gonna attack okay he blocked with two so

I still got through four attacks wiped

him out sometimes you gotta sacrifice

your guy I mean this guy wipe off my

t-rex but it's gonna take him a loose to

bits

okay see two hits so he did wipe me off

so he had three left there then bringing

in my tran Adan my usual method to

reserve to block so if he attacks full

force he will fuck I see he did 3c most

people don't like attacking full force

because it because then the other guy

knows they've got nothing left so here I

am attacking full force six BAM he's out

okay so this guy will wipe me out he's

gotta attack up six he only has to do

well he owns guy hit me once so at this

point I mean this is a scary point to be

in because he has five left which he

probably put most of them into block so

that if you attacked at that point see

he had my block so if you would have

attacked at that point he would have

blocked okay see I had to block he did

to attack at this point you probably

want to attack all off and there I go

okay he blocked one BAM dissolved

it's a lot of times if you block their

attack you've got a really good chance

to attack okay so here I move i moved i

did not see what I've moved up to

apologize okay I moved up to 29 and then

spin oh sorry I didn't show you guys my

prize there is probably coin that's

probably why this guy is awesome hasta

hasta puss horas I just got one of these

guys in odd super-rare card pack it was

a super-rare card pack I wanted one of

these tournaments and he is cool-looking

the only problem is I can't get a second

one until I beat like level 63 or

something in the regular game so I mean

he's sort of stuck of being level 10 so

I mean at some point if I really need

DNA I probably will sell them okay so

here I bring my t-rex because they have

a really powerful herbivore here

filled up my reserve yep they're

bringing in their aquatic right so they

should have a tack Wow see I gotta take

this guy out I mean this guy is super

strong against my carnivore see they

didn't block at all BAM 2826 damage okay

so mityvac should have a problem with

that guy he will wipe out my trend on

okay attack up to brings up my circus

circus I'll bring my t-rex back this

guy's attack is stronger than my wow

that's

that's up there that's actually pretty

cool to have a herbivore okay so this

guy's attack is even stronger 307 and

the thing is I can't let this guy go up

against my infineon yeah there I go I

gotta wipe them out so I if that guy

comes up against up my Sarkis Lucas I

mean he will decimate me because he's

got the class advantage okay this guy's

gonna wipe me off for easily sold it

tack up to that leaves them five in

reserve which I could almost guarantee

you they're using that five you block so

you never wanna after an attack like

that you never see they were using five

to block after attack like that never

want to attack right away because

usually what the other person does

they'll use their minimum to wipe you

out on the block full force so you can't

so if you attack them then you're open

again okay so cool I got him with an

attack of three awesome like I said that

Sarkis sucsess is amazing you guys could

afford him go for it okay so here I move

up to level 14 and this is really early

in the tournament so like I said I took

a few days off and I mean I dropped from

like 12 like 80 and like no couple days

let me know I already asked this

question but let me know if you guys

like just watching these tournament

battles or if you want me to wait and uh

do more just a storyline for me the

tournament battles are cool as you see

new dinosaurs and for me you know the

whole point of this game for me I like

this strategy blah I want to see the

dinos like look at this guy a duplicator

the Houston and 17 hit power wow that

guy's like way up there okay so he's

like way more powerful than on him ah so

at this point it things get kind of

scary okay I went all out attack is it

gonna be enough wow it was haha cool see

hey they got too confident that's the

thing is another thing with this game

you you can't you can't get too

confident if you do you're gonna die

okay see this guy easily wipe all my

circus sucsess and I see so that'll

bring up my herbivore herbivorous

herbivore he is way stronger than me so

at this point I should switch you my

spinal each I did not okay well I'm my

reserve way up there I mean I'll have

law eight okay so i went ahead and

attack twice so i probably would have

been better off block in there because

now i just gave away you know exactly

see he's using six to attack he did not

need six I'm if you would have been

paying attention he would have seen the

only need to to attack me he used six so

he left himself way open

I mean I only need to attack this glide

probably three times at this point and

build up my reserve and block okay so i

only needed two he did use everything

you never use everything guys if you

could help it unless you're sacrificing

a dino to take out another very

dangerous and ah ok this guy doesn't

have a chance and I guys that's bringing

us close to the end of the episode I

mean I had a great time making this for

you guys and make sure you guys click

like I really need your likes and if you

wait till the video ends there's an

awesome in card with a lot more fun

videos ok so here I move up to position

15 ok those are the guys ahead of me

let's see if I could get a cool prize

okay see I got another common pack

common packs are good too okay a bunch

of money in a dino I could sell for DNA

okay well I'll see you guys soon

you

Negative Space Nail Design With CND Company | Beauty With Mi | Refinery29 - Duration: 4:57.

Hey guys, it's Mi Anne and this is Beauty with Mi.

We all know by now, I'm a beauty nerd and while I live for makeup and skin care, I'll

be honest: nail art is not my forte.

Last fall I got the chance to get a Japanese acrylic manicure inspired by Sailor Moon which

totally opened my eyes to how fun nail art could be.

So, when I got the opportunity to visit CND Polish's Fashion Week Nail Design Lab, I totally

flipped.

CND polish is the brand behind some of the weirdest Fashion Week nail trends like fur

nails, dog inspired sets, it's crazy guys.

I'm going to get to tour the nail design lab and even get to make a few designs myself.

Nail novice, no more.

So first off, I met up with Jan Arnold, co-founder to CND to walk me through some of the nail looks.

We are so excited about this season and we really saw some interesting things emerge

for the nails like framework, fringe, and even geodes.

I love that and it's such three-dimensional texture too.

Exactly.

For Libertine Fall 2017, his inspiration was the nomadic gypsy, kind of this Romanian gypsy

that knows how to up-cyle and recycle but then gilded and embellished.

Another source of inspiration was Uzbekistani village women who do these amazing embroidered

Suzannis.

My favorite look was the shag carpet nail.

It is the coolest nail look I've ever seen.

On a base of acrylics, they'll put a paste on the nail and use a metallic tool to create

divots in the nail where they're going to place the thread.

Then they'll cut little pieces of thread and knot them at the end and using tweezers,

they'll put little bits of thread in each of the divots they created.

Once all the thread is placed, they'll put little gel on it to secure it all and finish

it off with a little bit of brushing to get it all fluffy.

The shag carpet nail is born.

It's artistry at its very finest collaboration.

Now I know that those nails aren't necessarily DIY friendly so I met up with Miss Pop who's

an amazing nail artist to show me how to do the nails from Jeremy Scott's Autumn/Winter

2017 show.

The show's about this iconography, there was all this...Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson,

all these stars so we felt we had to bring that sort of show biz glitz to the nail and

do this fabulous DIY that you can totally get these nails at home.

I'll be honest, I was a little scared at first because the nails were beautiful and

red with these amazing stars on it and I thought that there's no way that I could do those

myself.

But it turns out, it's really easy.

All you have to do is get a piece of blue painter's tape, cut a teeny tiny triangle

in it, slap it on your nail, and paint gold over it.

It's really that easy.

You're making me so proud.

I feel like I'm so scared.

I think yours is technically better than mine.

Once we were done creating our starry nails, Miss Pop created a nail look just for me.

We incorporated two of my favorite trends: Negative space.

And Blue and created this awesome blue spacey manicure.

For those of you who don't know, negative space is basically a technique using different

tapes and tools to create spaces on the nail.

So instead of going with a full on solid color, you have a few different colors that create

different geometric shapes.

It's really awesome.

Any artists' tape at the craft store, any painter's' tape, I wouldn't get any bigger

than an eighth of an inching depending on your nail.

I think that's probably the biggest.

This is one sixteenth of an inch.

So I'm going one hand at a time to make sure that the timing of my tape pull is right.

So I'm doing one coat of each and then I'll go back and do my second coat and then I'll lift.

Now I'm just gonna finish this top coat and you'll be ready to go.

The look is so spring and so you.

I love it.

I'm so glad you like it.

Thank you!

Okay, great.

It was such an amazing experience seeing all the looks that CND puts together for Fashion

Week and beyond.

Not only was I inspired by all the different nail trends that I saw, but I learned a technique

that I can actually do by myself and who doesn't love that?

Three things that I took away from all of this was that texture, powdery finishes, and

3D effects are super in for fall.

What are your favorite nail looks and colors?

Let me know in the comments below and I'll see you next time on Beauty With Mi.

Thank you so much for watching guys!

a ban on reincarnation,

comes the most mind-bending

assault on logic yet.

You see, the Chinese Communist Party

is a bit like Richard Simmons.

Only instead of stretching those glutes,

the Communist Party stretches the truth.

Unlike Richard Simmons,

the Communist Party has not

suddenly disappeared.

You may be familiar with the Chinese regime

doing some construction in disputed territorial waters

in the South China Sea.

This is Fiery Cross Reef.

And here's a timelapse of Fiery Cross Reef.

You can see a close-up of the 10,000-foot runway

they built on it,

perfect for military planes.

And according to US officials,

these might be missile silos.

So if you go by what some people call

objective reality,

you'd think the Chinese regime is building

man-made islands for military purposes.

But if you take the red and yellow pill,

things aren't what they seem.

Because according to Wu Qian,

China's Defense Minister,

there's "no such thing."

In other news:

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength.

Specifically what the Defense Minister said was,

"Most of the building is for civilian purposes"

"including necessary defensive facilities"

But he also said:

"There is no such thing

as man-made islands"

In other words,

military falls under the category of civilian.

And there's no such thing

as what they're building, anyway.

Yes, none of this exists.

When reporters asked him to explain his comment,

"Wu declined to elaborate,

saying China had already provided a full explanation

of its construction work."

Construction work that never happened, right?

It's like something out of a movie.

Wait a second!

I know what's going on!

Wu Qian is trying to use Jedi mind tricks on us.

"There are no man-made islands."

Well, Wu Qian, Jedi mind tricks don't work on me.

Hey!

C'mon Seamus.

At least Photoshop me onto a character

from one of the good Star Wars movies.

That's more like it.

Or maybe it's not Star Wars...

Maybe there are no man-made islands

because there is no reality.

We're all just living in some kind of artificial simulation

of a world that doesn't exist anymore.

Nah, that's just crazy.

Anyway, why is this man-made islands thing

such a big deal?

Well, the Chinese regime is engaged in territorial disputes

with many of its neighbors

over the resource-rich South China Sea.

China claims pretty much all of it

within this red line,

called the nine-dash line.

Whether or not those claims have historical legitimacy,

the Chinese regime is proceeding aggressively

by dredging up sand and piling it on

mostly submerged reefs.

Then, they use those man-made islands

to exert territorial claims,

saying those islands belong to China,

since, you know,

China built them.

Then they say they never built them,

even though we have pictures of them

doing it.

Wait!

What if the Chinese regime

didn't build those islands after all?

What if that's what Wu Qian meant

when he said there were no man-made islands?

The Chinese military wasn't dredging up sand

to build islands.

It was merely helping to uncover natural islands

with natural sand that exists

at the bottom of the ocean

and would one day maybe form those exact islands

on those exact coral reefs

that the Chinese military killed

in order to not build those islands on top of.

If you think about it,

it's very eco-friendly.

Al Gore would approve.

And it's a great strategy.

Because no matter how insane it is,

what is anyone going to do about it?

No one wants to go to war with China.

And so the Chinese regime

keeps pushing the envelope

until they push it into Crazytown.

Which was primarily built for civilian purposes,

including necessary defensive facilities.

So what do you think of China's claim

there's no such thing as man-made islands?

Donald Trump Has The Mental Prowess Of A Child - Duration: 3:32.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump sent out the following Tweet.

He said, "When will sleepy eyes Chuck Todd at NBC News start talking about the Obama

surveillance scandal and stop with the fake Trump Russia story?"

Now, a lot of people focused on the Trump Russia story from this Tweet.

Few people pointed out the fact that Donald Trump, over this weekend, the sitting President

of the United States, arguably one of the most powerful human beings on the planet,

insulted a reporter for his physical appearance.

Sleepy eyes Chuck Todd.

Now, I have children that are in elementary school.

I would absolutely expect to hear something like that from them, you know, if they were

horrible people.

Luckily, they're not and they wouldn't say something like that.

But, that's the kind of mentality we're dealing with, with the sitting President of the United

States.

He sees nothing wrong with going out and insulting somebody for doing their job and holding this

administration accountable.

Now, do I agree with MSNBC and NBC News doing nothing but talking about Trump and Russia?

God, no.

There are so many other issues to attack this President on and they're grasping at straws

at the moment, because we're still waiting on more evidence on the Trump and Russia story.

So, why don't you hit him on everything else?

But, I'm not going to sit here and insult Chuck Todd or any other television new host,

even if it's Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Hannity for how they look, because that's low-hanging

fruit.

That's what idiots do.

People who can't come up with an intelligent argument always attack somebody based on their

looks.

And, again, that is what grade school children do, and unfortunately, that's the kind of

mindset, the kind of mental faculties that our President has.

A man in his 70's.

I mean, for the love of God.

This man is a senior citizen, an elderly guy who probably has lived his entire life like

this though.

And, that's the problem.

We knew this coming into this election and Republicans have no problem with it.

This party that claims that they have the moral high ground on every single issue has

no problem with electing a bully and acting like bullies, themselves.

There is no moral high ground among Republicans, yet they always try to claim it.

They wrap themselves in the Bible, and instead of using that to feed the hungry and clothe

the naked, they use it to justify their hate.

Donald Trump is doing that.

And anyone who voted for this man that claims to have some kind of moral superiority is

absolutely lying to themselves.

Donald Trump is a schoolyard bully.

He has been all his life and he will be, until the end of his life.

Unfortunately, this is our President.

We have a President who goes on Twitter and insults the appearance of other human beings.

What a great time to be alive in America, right?

Why Hard Work Isn't How You Make More Money (Use This "Less Input, More Output" Principle) - Duration: 8:04.

Hard work is exactly like sleeping.

Poor people sleep, rich people sleep.

You do need sleep, or you will die.

So poor people work hard, rich

people work hard, it's not the differentiating

factor, they both, what's the difference?

You want to find the key thing they do differently.

It's not what people do the same that helps you.

I know what people do the same.

The thing about bodies, what do

most people in America do?

Eat junk food, and get fat, so

studying them, isn't gonna help you that much.

You have to find, that's why Malcolm Gladwell

wrote the book Outliers, you gotta

study the people, the outliers.

So the top 10 men in the world,

make more money than 3.5 billion at the bottom.

Just put that in perspective, that's

thirty-five hundred, million people.

That's a lot, right?

So the reason is, is because, well that's the mystery.

What do the ten do that those 3.5 billion,

thousands of millions, of people don't do?

And so when you answer that, then

you figure out how to make more money.

So they do things like, I mean like Warren Buffet.

Like doesn't believe in working hard.

Warren Buffet says my investment

strategy borders on sloth, he said

when other people are trading stocks

all the time at work, he makes

like one big trade every two years.

It appears to be slothfullness.

But you do more thinking, thinking is what.

It's kinda like Connor McGregor.

In that fight with Aldo, where

he knocked out Aldo in what, seven,

37 seconds I think it was.

He came out and he interviewed,

and he said, you remember what he said?

- [Man] What'd he say?

- [Man 2] I'd like to thank no one?

- [Man 3] Absolutely nobody.

- No about precision.

- [Man] Precision beats power.

- Precision beats power.

(humming in agreement)

So I was like, you got people, power

they try to work hard and.

(play yelling)

And you got other people that are precision.

You only need to knock someone out,

you only need one precise hit, right there.

You don't have to go 12 rounds.

You don't want to go 12 rounds.

The goal in life, is less input, more output.

The goal of life is to design a car, less gas, more miles.

Every time I see people glorifying

hard work, the only good thing

about hard work is physical, manual labor.

When I used to live on a farm, it'd make you strong.

So there is some benefit, but people

working hard in a business setting.

In terms of stressing themselves out,

waking up at four in the morning,

going to bed at nine, you're literally

depleting your adrenal glands,

spiking your cortisol, and you're

probably not working smart.

There's only so many hours in a day.

You can't outwork 3.5 billion people.

You think, the top 10 people, if

they worked 24 hours a day,

how many hours could they work?

Maximum, combined, 240, right?

The bottom 3.5 million, I mean, billion people,

if they just work one hour a day.

Would work 3.5 billion hours a day.

3.5 billion, versus 240, but the 240

hour group makes more than the 3.5

billion, if they only worked one hour.

So this proves my point, the fact

that people argue this, I will tell you

a very powerful skill, that I would

recommend you learn to read, logic.

Logic is dead boy, people debate.

You should take debate, debate is a very powerful skill.

'Cause it forces you to hone your skills of thinking.

Critical thinking is another way to think.

I can decide for myself usually.

When somebody gives a piece of advice,

whether it's garbage or not.

And most advice is garbage.

My advice to most people, if I could go back in time.

Is literally, if I could brainwash myself.

Clean out almost nothing people say is true.

Just remember that, almost nothing.

People say money doesn't make you happy.

Which is an incomplete statement.

It's not that simple, money in

a sense won't make you happy.

In another sense it will make you very happy.

You know people, like I said education

system was basically all built wrong.

Even simple things like I was saying.

Giving your kids an allowance to do chores.

Why would you do that?

They're apart of a family unit.

Why should you have to do that?

The parents don't get paid for doing it.

And heres a crazier one Joel Salatin

used to tell me, just simple societal

things that make no sense.

He said, why when parents punish

their kids, do they give them chores?

Like oh, you have to do the dishes.

He said, so what you've now trained

your kids brain, is that work, like

maintaining the house is punishment.

See you know what the Amish used

to do, a guy like Joel Salatin, this

is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Talk about a mind fuck, for parents to do to their kids.

In a positive way, is that I was once,

I stayed with this guy Sam Chup.

And his son forgot to get the eggs from the chickens.

Or no, he forgot to milk the cow.

That's what is was, so he came back,

he was like six years old, and Sam says

to his son, he says, you know you

really hurt that cow, 'cause it

hurts when they don't get milked.

And the son's like, oh I'm sorry.

So the dad goes, you can't come

with me and your brothers on the

construction crew today, you gotta

stay here with your mom.

And I remember his son fell on the

ground crying, like please, take me!

Because young kids want to be a part.

In society we've destroyed peoples creativity

by punishing, don't punish with doing stuff.

Punish by taking it away.

Be like okay, the parents what they

should do is, if you're good I'll

let you start a business, if you're bad

you have to only play video games

while your brother makes a 100,000 while 14.

- That's good!

- Parents complain that their kids

don't do enough, I'm like I know

why they don't do enough.

'Cause you're a bad parent in terms

of understanding motivation.

If you have any brains you do exactly what I say.

You got three kids, each of them you

give a business, help them, you can help them.

Make sure they start making a little bit of money.

Don't give any of the other kids money.

Then take the kid who's making

a hundred bucks a week, and take him

to the candy store, take him to the toy store.

He comes home with all, and the other

two kids are sittin' there they got one

video game they got from grandma.

(laughing)

They're ready to buy the other one,

and one of the kids is just making

more than all of 'em.

All of a sudden, you're gonna have three entrepreneurs.

Gotta use a little reverse psychology.

- [Man 4] I like that.

- [Man 3] It's good.

- You can do that for adults, that's why

people saying that materialism isn't good.

Like I show Lamborghini's are morons,

because I got more people motivated

to read books then anyone is history.

- True.

- Because a lot of people go, a lot

of people are motivated by material things.

People are so dumb to think that

I don't get high off or moral and supply.

I understand how to use the supply.

You know what I'm saying?

I don't go in my garage and rub my cars

and all of that, people think I'm

this materialistic guy, I'm like

no I'm out thinking you, you're slow.

You're too slow.

I have a goal, the goal is to motivate

people toward a certain end.

In this case, it's an end that's

good for society, people still criticize it.

Because people too slow, but whenever

they're too slow, if it wasn't for the

do you remember this?

The stupidity of others, you wouldn't be so rich.

- [Man 4] Hell yeah!

- If every 14 year old was sharp,

you would be competing with every 14

year old would try to be on stage.

Most 14 year olds, they're trying

to figure out, you know God knows what.

So stay ahead of the curve, it's not hard anymore.

It's getting easier, it's a better world now.

- It's true.

- People are getting more followers, less leaders.

Everybody becomes a follower, that's

great, you can become the leader.

Human Hormones Are Being Eclipsed By Synthetic Chemicals - Duration: 5:40.

Human Hormones Are Being Eclipsed By Synthetic Chemicals

by Edward Morgan

A new study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology has raised some disturbing possibilities

regarding the dangers of common hormone-mimicking preservatives found in thousands of consumer

products on the market today.

Titled Parabens detection in different zones of the human breast: consideration of

source and implications of findings, researchers discussed the role that parabens a class

of estrogen-mimicking chemicals widely used in drugs, foods and cosmetics may have

in breast cancer and childhood disease.

The report focused on the findings of The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre at

the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust published last month

(March, 2012), which discovered five paraben esters in human breast tissue samples collected

from 40 mastectomies from women with primary breast cancer.

The report revealed three things:

1) The ester form of parabens found within the breast tissue samples indicated a dermal

route of exposure, as would occur through skin care products and underarm deodorants.

2) The paraben residues were found at concentrations up to 1 million times higher than the estrogen

(estradiol) levels naturally found in human breast tissue.

3) Propylparaben was found in the highest concentration in the underarm area (axilla),

where underarm deodorants are most used and breast cancer prevalence is at its highest.

While the World Health Organization considers the estrogenic properties of parabens to be

a low toxicological risk due to it being 10,000-100,000 less potent than estradiol (E2), the 1 million-fold

higher levels found within breast tissue sampled clearly indicate the magnitude of exposure

more than compensates for the reduction in potency.

Also noted in the new study was a highly disturbing possibility: For exposures in children,

concern has already been raised that the estrogenic burden of parabens and their metabolites

in blood may exceed the action of endogenous estradiol in childhood and the safety margin

for propylparaben is very low when comparing worst-case exposure (Boberg et al., 2010).

In other words, synthetic hormones from chemicals like parabens may actually be eclipsing the

activity of endogenously produced (natural) hormones in our children.

Given that 99.1% of the US populations urine samples (ages 6 or older) contain methylparaben,

this issue has broad-ranging implications.

Presently, European regulations allow for the use of parabens in cosmetics at up to

0.4% by volume.

The limits in the US are much less restricted.

According to the FDAs website: The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) reviewed the safety

of methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben in 1984 and concluded they were safe for use

in cosmetic products at levels up to 25%.

Typically parabens are used at levels ranging from 0.01 to 0.3%. Parabens are also FDA-approved

for use as food preservatives.

Given the fact that modern-day toxicological risk assessments do not account for the adverse

effects of chronic, low-dose exposures, nor the reality of synergistic toxicities, i.e.

the reality that a chemicals adverse effects may be amplified when present alongside other

chemicals, this new research points to a disturbing possibility: commonly used preservatives may

be contributing greatly to the burden of disease in exposed populations especially infants

and children, whose body burden is higher (lower body weight vs. chemical dose), susceptibility

to chemically-induced genotoxicity higher (because their cells replicate more rapidly),

and detoxification systems are less developed than adults.

It is becoming increasingly clear that in order to protect ourselves and especially

our offspring from avoidable chemical exposures this country needs to implement the precautionary

principle in its toxicological risk assessments: if there is indication that a chemical could

do harm (based on cell and animal studies), it should be treated as if it does do harm,

and be regulated accordingly.

Until then, we are effectively a living and breathing nation of guinea pigs.

Also, view four studies on gingers ability to reduce paraben toxicity.

National insecurity What a Trump presidency really means for Americans at the edge - Duration: 25:13.

National (in)security What a Trump presidency really means for Americans at the edge

Donald Trumps supporters believe that his election will end business as usual in Washington.

The self-glorifying Trump agrees and indeed his has, so far, been the most unorthodox

presidency of our era, if not any era. Its a chaotic and tweet-driven administration

that makes headlines daily thanks to scandals, acts of stunning incompetence, rants, accusations,

wild claims, and conspiracy theories. On one crucial issue, however, Trump has been a complete

conformist. Despite the headline-grabbing uproar over Muslim bans and the like, his

stance on national security couldnt be more recognizable. His list of major threats

terrorism, Iran, North Korea and China features the usual suspects that Republicans,

Democrats, and the foreign policy establishment have long deemed dangerous.

Trumps conception of security not only doesnt break the mold of recent administrations

its a remarkably fine fit for it. Thats because his focus is on protecting Americans

from foreign groups or governments that could threaten us or destroy physical objects (buildings,

bridges, and the like) in the homeland. In doing so, he, like his predecessors, steers

clear of a definition of security that would include the workaday difficulties that

actually make Americans insecure. These include poverty, joblessness or underemployment, wages

too meager to enable even full-time workers to make ends meet, and a wealth-based public

school system that hampers the economic and professional prospects, as well as futures,

of startling numbers of American children. To this list must be added the radical dangers

climate change poses to the health and safety of future citizens.

Trump may present himself as a maverick, but on security he never wavers from an all-too-familiar

externally focused and militarized narrative.

Conjurer-in-chief

Barack Obama wrote a bestselling book titled The Audacity of Hope. Perhaps Donald

Trump should write one titled The Audacity of Wealth. During the presidential campaign

of 2016 he morphed unashamedly from plutocrat to populist, assuring millions of people struggling

with unemployment, debt and inadequate incomes that he would solve their problems. The shtick

worked. Many Americans believed him. Fifty-two percent of voters who did not have a college

degree chose him. Among whites with that same educational profile, he did even better, winning

67 percent of their votes.

Unemployment, underemployment, stagnant wages and the outsourcing of production (and so

jobs) have hit those who lack a college degree especially hard. Yet many of them were convinced

by Trumps populist message. It made no difference that he belonged to the wealthiest

0.00004 percent of Americans, if his net worth is the widely reported $3.5 billion, and the

top 0.00002 percent if, as he claims, its actually $10 billion.

Former Louisiana Governor Huey Long, perhaps the countrys best-known populist historically

speaking, was born and raised in Winn Parish, a poor part of Louisiana. In the 1930s, his

origins and his far-reaching ideas for redistributing wealth gave him credibility. By contrast,

Trump wasnt cut from humble cloth; nor in his present reincarnation has he even claimed

to stand for the reallocation of wealth (except possibly to his wealthy compatriots). His

father, Fred Trump, was a multimillionaire who, at the time of his death in 1999, had

a net worth of $250 million, which was divided among his four surviving children. The proportional

allocations are not publicly known, though its safe to assume that Donald did well.

He also got his start in business and it wasnt even an impressive one thanks

to lavish help from Fred to the tune of millions of dollars. When he subsequently hit rough

patches, Dads connections and loan guarantees helped set things right.

A man who himself benefited handsomely from globalization, outsourcing and a designed-for-the-wealthy

tax code nonetheless managed to convince coal miners in West Virginia and workers in Ohio

that all of these were terrible things that enriched a financial elite that had

made itself wealthy at the expense of American workers and that electing him would end the

swindle.

He also persuaded millions of voters that foreign enemies were the biggest threat to

their security and that hed crush them by rebuilding Americas military machine.

Worried about ISIS? Dont be. Trump would bomb the shit out of them. Concerned

about the nuclear arms race? Not to worry. Well outmatch them at every pass and

outlast them all.

Yet few if any Americans lie awake at night fearing invasion by another country or the

outbreak of nuclear war. Fifteen years after 9/11, terrorism still ranks high on the American

list of concerns (especially, the polls tell us, among Republicans). But that danger is

not nearly as dire as Trump and the U.S. national security state insist it is. A litany of statistics

shows that deaths from car crashes leave death-by-terrorist in the dust, while since 2002 even bee, hornet

and wasp stings have killed more Americans annually in the United States than Islamic

terrorists.

Since 9/11, only 95 Americans 95 too many, let it be said have been killed in terrorist

attacks in the United States. Not one of the perpetrators was a tourist or someone on another

type of temporary visa, and several were non-Muslims. Nor were any of them refugees, or connected

to any of the countries in Trumps two Muslim bans. Indeed, as the journalist Nick Gillespie

notes, since the adoption of the 1980 Refugee Act no refugee has been involved in a terrorist

attack that killed Americans.

Still, Trumps hyperbole has persuaded many in this country that terrorism poses a major,

imminent threat to them and that measures like a 90-day ban on travel to the United

States by the citizens of certain Muslim countries will protect them. (A recent poll shows that

54 percent of the public supports this policy.) As for terrorist plots, successful or not,

by white far-right extremists, the president simply hasnt felt the urge to say much

about them.

In other words, President Trump, like candidate Trump, embraces the standard take on national

security. He, too, is focused on war and terrorism. Here, on the other hand, are some threats

a suggestive, not inclusive, list that genuinely make, or threaten to make, millions

of Americans insecure and vulnerable.

Poverty: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2015, 43 million Americans, 13.5 percent

of the population, lived below the poverty line ($11,700 for an individual and $20,090

for a three-person household) an increase of 1 percent since 2007, the year before the

Great Recession. For children under 18, the 2015 poverty rate was 19.7 percent. While

that was an improvement on the 21.1 percent of 2014, it still meant that nearly a fifth

of American children were poor.

The working poor: Yes, you can have a job and still be poor if your wages are low or

stagnant or have fallen. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) uses a conservative definition

for these individuals: People who spent at least 27 weeks in the labor force during

the year either working or looking for work but whose incomes were below the

poverty level. Though some studies use a more expansive definition, even by the BLSs

criteria, there were 9.5 million working poor in 2014.

Even if you work and bring in wages above the poverty line, you may still barely be

getting by. Oxfam reports that 58 million American workers make less than $15 an hour

and 44 million make less than $12 an hour. Congress last raised the minimum hourly wage

to $7.25 in 2007 (and even then included exceptions that applied to several types of workers).

That sum has since lost nearly 10 percent of its purchasing power thanks to inflation.

Wage stagnation and economic inequality: These two conditions explain a large part of the

working-but-barely-making-it phenomenon. Lets start with those stagnant wages. According

to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), for about three decades after World War II, hourly

wage increases for workers in non-supervisory roles kept pace with productivity increases:

at 91.3 percent and 96.7 percent, respectively. Then things changed dramatically. Between

1973 and 2013, productivity increased by 74.4 percent and wages by only 9.2 percent. In

other words, with wages adjusted for inflation, the average American worker made no more in

2013 than in 1973.

As for economic inequality, the EPI reports that from 1980 to 2013 the income of the top

1 percent of wage earners increased by 138 percent compared to 15 percent for the bottom

90 percent. For those at the lowest end of the wage scale it was even worse. In those

years, their hourly pay actually dropped by 5 percent.

When was the last time you heard Donald Trump talk about stagnant wages or growing economic

inequality, both of which make his most fervent supporters insecure? In reality, the defunding

of federal programs that provide energy subsidies, employment assistance and legal services to

people with low incomes will only hurt many Trump voters who are already struggling economically.

Climate change: There is a scientific consensus on this problem, which already contributes

to droughts and floods that reduce food production, damages property, and threatens lives, not

to speak of increasing the range of forest fires and lengthening the global fire season,

as well as helping spread diseases like cholera, malaria and dengue fever. Trump once infamously

described climate change as a Chinese-fabricated hoax meant to reduce the competitiveness

of American companies. No matter that, in recent years, the Chinese government has taken

serious steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Now, President Trump is gearing up to take the United States out of the climate change

sweepstakes entirely. For instance, he remains determined to withdraw the country from the

2015 Paris Agreement (signed by 197 countries and so far ratified by 134 of them) aimed

at limiting the increase in global temperature to a maximum of two degrees Celsius during

this century. Scott Pruitt, his appointee to run the Environmental Protection Agency,

denies that climate change is significantly connected to human activity and is stocking

his agency with climate change deniers of like mind. Needless to say Pruitt didnt

balk at Trumps decision to cut the EPAs budget by 31 percent.

Nor do Trump and his team favor promoting alternative sources of energy or reducing

carbon emissions, even though the United States is second only to China in total emissions

and among the globes largest emitters on a per-capita basis. Trump seems poised to

scale back President Obamas plan to increase the Corporate Annual Fuel Efficiency Standard

created by the government to reduce average automobile gas consumption from the present

35.5 miles per gallon to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, end the 2015 freeze on leases for

coal mining on federal land, and ease power plant emission limits. Worse yet, Trumps

America First Energy Plan calls for producing more oil and gas but contains nary a word

about climate change or a green energy strategy. If you want a failsafe formula for future

environment-related insecurity, this, of course, is it.

Bogus remedies

Candidate Trump certainly did tap into a deepening sense of insecurity about wage stagnation,

the disappearance of good working-class jobs and increasing economic inequality. But in

the classic national security mode, he has artfully framed these problems, too, as examples

of the economic hardship that foreign countries have inflicted on America. And the four remedies

he offers, all rooted in a nationalistic economic outlook, wont actually help American workers,

could hurt them or are at best cosmetic.

First, he favors renegotiating multilateral trade deals like NAFTA and wasted no time

withdrawing the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, accords which he believes hurt

American workers. Second, he wants to impose tariffs of 35 percent to 45 percent on imports

from countries such as Mexico and China that he accuses of unfair trade practices. Third,

at least on the campaign trail he pledged to punish countries like China, Japan and

Germany for supposedly devaluing their currencies in order to boost their exports unfairly at

Americas expense. Fourth, hes high on slapping a border tax on companies that import

from their branches or subcontractors abroad the components needed to make products to

be sold in the United States, as well as on firms that simply import finished products

and sell them locally.

Some of these punitive moves, if actually pursued, will only provoke retaliation from

other countries, harming American exporters and consequently the workers they employ.

Tariffs will, of course, also increase the cost of imported goods, hurting consumers

with low incomes the most, just as taxing U.S. corporations for importing from their

subsidiaries abroad will increase the prices of locally made goods, possibly reducing demand

and so jobs.

Even the nullification of trade pacts, whatever positives might be involved, wont bring

industries like steel, textiles and basic machine-making that once provided good jobs

for the working class back to the United States. Trump blames China for the decline in manufacturing

employment, as does one of his top economists, Peter Navarro. (Despite holding a Harvard

Ph.D. in economics, Navarro evidently doesnt grasp that trade deficits dont have a major

effect on employment and that protectionism doesnt cut trade deficits.)

Whats really required are policies that help displaced manufacturing workers to get

decent jobs now, while addressing wage stagnancy, which has been significantly aided and abetted

by a sharp decline in union membership in recent decades. According to the Bureau of

Labor Statistics, between 1983 and 2015 membership in public-sector unions held reasonably steady.

Not so for private-sector union membership, which plunged from 12 million in 1983 to 7.6

million in 2015. As a result, workers have been increasingly incapable of combatting

wage stagnation through collective bargaining. Tellingly enough, however, as of 2015, the

median weekly paycheck of unionized workers was still 21 percent larger than that of workers

who did not belong to a union.

Consider Trumps business history when it comes to labor (including the hiring and stiffing

of undocumented workers), as well as the make up of his immensely wealthy, Goldman Sachs-ified

economic team, and the Republican Partys attitude toward unions. Then ask yourself:

How likely is it that this administration will be well disposed toward unionization

or collective bargaining?

And dont forget automation, a subject Donald Trump has essentially been mum about. It has

contributed decisively to job loss and wage stagnancy by reducing or even eliminating

the need for labor in certain economic sectors. As economists Michael Hicks and Srikant Devraj

have demonstrated, increased productivity through automation has been far more crucial

in reducing the need for human labor in U.S. manufacturing than outsourced jobs and imports.

Thanks to labor-displacing technologies, U.S. manufacturing output actually increased in

value by 17.6 percent between 2006 and 2013 while the workforce continued to shrink.

Another source of wage stagnancy is rising economic inequality, which stems partly from

the fierce corporate focus since the 1980s on boosting quarterly earnings and paying

dividends that will keep shareholders happy, even if that requires incurring debt, rather

than increasing workers wages.

Alternative policies

Trump claims that he will create more jobs by lowering the corporate tax rate. At 35

percent 38.9 percent including the average state tax the American corporate tax rate

is significantly higher than the global average (29.5 percent). Nonetheless, the familiar

high-corporate-taxes-kill-jobs narrative that Trump trumpets is simplistic. More than 60

percent of American companies are so-called S corporations. They pay no corporate tax:

They pass their profits on to stockholders who then report the gains when filing income

tax returns. And even the corporations that do pay taxes manage to reduce the burden significantly

through such steps as claiming accelerated depreciation on equipment and establishing

offshore companies whose books reflect their profits. As a result, their true tax rate

isnt anything like 38.9 percent. High corporate taxes arent what stops companies from creating

jobs or paying workers more, which means that changing that rate wont fix any problems,

not for American workers anyway.

There are other solutions to low wages and unemployment, even if President Trump will

never favor them.

Investing more in public education, for example. Local property taxes and state monies still

count heavily in funding public schools. (Federal support is less than 15 percent.) So the quality

of a school can depend greatly on the zip code in which its located, especially because

parents in wealthy neighborhoods normally raise more money to help their schools than

their non-affluent counterparts can. School quality can also depend on how wealthy your

state is.

Though other factors doubtless play a role, in general, the better the quality of the

school, the greater the likelihood that a child will go to college and the stronger

his or her income and prospects will be. Increasing federal funding to schools that lack adequate

resources could improve matters. But if you expect President Trump and Secretary of Education

Betsy DeVos to consider such a proposition, think again.

Raising the minimum wage significantly could also help reduce income inequality and the

number of working poor. Democrats have favored raising the minimum wage to $10.10, which,

it is believed, would reduce the number of people living in poverty by an estimated 4.6

million. Thats hardly an outlandish proposal. Some experts, like former Labor Secretary

Robert Reich, have called for a minimum wage of $15 an hour, though they are in the minority.

But even certain mainstream economists, like Princetons Alan Krueger, support a $12

rate and reject the right-wing claim that it would kill jobs.

Dont expect the Trump administration (or the GOP) to push for any form of such a policy.

Take a look at the members of the presidents Strategic and Policy Forum (SPF), whose duties

include providing advice on job creation, and youll realize that such a relatively

modest goal will be off the table for at least the next four years. Youll find representatives

from the Blackstone Group, Walmart, IBM, General Motors, Boeing and General Electric in the

SPF, but not one labor advocate. Case closed.

Prepare for business as usual

The net worth of Trumps cabinet (the president excluded) is $5 billion, and thats a conservative

estimate (no pun intended). By some calculations, it may be $13 billion. According to Politifacts

Tom Kertscher, that modest $5 billion figure exceeds the net worth of the bottom

one-third of all American families. Now, what likelihood do you think there is that Trump

would ever implement policies that threatened to transform the distribution of wealth and

power in America to the detriment of the economic class from which he and his cabinet hail?

(In that spirit, remember that candidate Trump proposed a tax plan that would focus on the

wealthiest Americans by cutting the top tax rate from 39.6 percent to 25 percent and eliminating

the estate tax, 90 percent of which is paid by the countrys wealthiest 10 percent.)

Its much easier to scapegoat outsiders, whether China, Japan, Mexico and Germany (whose

government Trump trade adviser Navarro has also accused of currency manipulation), or

undocumented workers who generally hold jobs in the United States that require lower skills,

pay less and that most American citizens avoid. Its also easier to stick with the standard

militarized conception of national security and, for good measure, hype the perils posed

by Islam, which for Steve Bannon, Trumps chief political strategist and Stephen Miller,

his senior adviser on policy, amounts to a synonym for extremism and violence, even if

Islamic terrorists pose the most minuscule of threats to most Americans.

Not surprisingly, Trump proposes to increase the countrys already staggering defense

spending for next year by another $54 billion. To put that increment in perspective, consider

that Russias total defense spending in 2015 was $66 billion and Britains $56 billion,

while the United States already spends more on defense than at least the next seven countries

combined. (In fairness to Trump, Senators John McCain and Mac Thornberry, respectively

the chairmen of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the House Armed Services Committee,

want to bulk up the defense budget even more.)

Trump also seems determined to stay the course on Americas forever wars in Afghanistan

and Iraq. Neither he nor his generals show any sign of abandoning the Obama-era strategy

of whack-a-mole drone strikes and raids by Special Operations forces against terrorist

redoubts around the world (as witness a recent failed special ops raid in Yemen and 24 drone

strikes half of the maximum number that the United States launched against that country

in any preceding year). Trump has already deployed 400 Marines as well as Army Rangers

to fight ISIS in Raqqa, Syria, and another thousand troops may soon be heading that way.

And General John Nicholson, commander of the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan,

has called for a few thousand additional troops for that country.

So expect President Trump to dwell obsessively on threats that have a low probability of

harming Americans, while offering no effective solutions for the quotidian hardships that

actually do make so many citizens feel insecure. Expect, as well, that the more he proves unable

to deliver on his economic promises to the working class, the more hell harp on the

standard threats and engage in saber rattling, hoping that a continual atmosphere of emergency

and vulnerability will disarm critics and divert attention from his failures.

In the end, count on one thing: Voters who were drawn to Trump because they believed

he would rein in interventionism abroad and deal with festering problems at home are in

for a disappointment.
