Hello class. welcome to this course which is child family & community CDM 03 with me, Melina Simonds.

This week you will be familiarizing yourself with the course content and the syllabus.

I suggest that you print out the syllabus and read through it this week.

There are many important due dates listed in the syllabus

as well as information related to the help services available to you and the technology issues that might come up when you are using CANVAS.

There's also information about attendance

and just like a regular course you are required to attend our course weekly and complete the modules.

In addition to the reading and homework assignments you are expected to participate in the course for four hours a week, so give yourself time to do this.

Each week there will also be a discussion post so you will have to post a discussion and respond to at least one peer.

Pay close attention to due dates because initial discussion posts are due Wednesday by 10 PM and your response to a peer will be due by Friday at 10 PM

Most other quizzes, reflections, and assignments are due Sundays at 10 PM.

So really give yourself time to complete the assignments

you won't want to start on a Sunday and try to complete everything

because you will have missed some due dates already for discussions. You really will have to login several times a week.

There are also several assignments and requirements for week one

so make sure you post your introduction if you have not done so already

and also make sure you have a photo in your profile, this is so we can put a face to the name and it helps make the course a little more personal.

You will also be completing your initial self-assessment and you will be completing the course orientation quiz.

The purpose of this class is to understand socialization by focusing on the interrelationships of the family, school, and community.

We're going to be looking at different contexts that influence children's development.

The first thing we will be looking at this week is the different contexts that impact global education.

So you will be watching a video and reading a short article to really help you understand the different contexts and factors which might create success in education outcomes

as seen through the global assessment called PISA.
