[On-Screen Text] As part of the B82 SBS project that began in 2015,
[On-Screen Text] NYC DOT and the MTA have been talking to B82 passengers about their experience riding the bus.
[On-Screen Text] Here is what passengers have to say:
[Male] I've been living in the neighborhood close to 30 years [Male] This part of Brooklyn? About 15 years [Male] For 30 years
[Male] About a month. [Female] I've lived in Bensonhurst Brooklyn for over - over 20 years
[On-Screen Text] What is it like riding the B82?
[Female] The B82 bus is an okay bus route - it's just that the waiting period - the waiting time at the bus stops are...
Extensive, so then you don't get a seat when you have your child you know
It's a little...you know...a struggle
[Male] I would say 90% of the time
It's not on time and when it does come it's packed - it's so packed it's ridiculous
I mean, it's it's literally
super uncomfortable
[Male] It's very terrible
One reason's because of the traffic and sometimes it's sporadic. After, after rush hour they're very sporadic around here. [Female] I would take the B82
Normally, that's the bus that would take me where I need to go...pick me up from where I need to come from
But I don't ever get to take it because it either never comes or when it comes
It's so crowded [Male] The B82 bus takes it takes a long time to come I've been waiting long for two hours
It didn't show so now
I want this bus to improve
[On-Screen Text] Dispatchers work to keep buses on schedule, but traffic related challenges and long lines to board the bus may hinder these efforts.
[On-Screen Text] [Female] The buses come in groups of 2 or 3.
I don't like when 3 buses come together,
when we've been waiting at the stop for so long.
[On-Screen Text] Traffic issues like double-parking and parking in bus stops block all traffic, including buses along Kings Highway every day.
[Male] The main problem when you're going slow is because there's so many double-parked cars
That that the city doesn't seem to care about. It's a ridiculous situation
Especially down Kings Highway. It's ridiculous
[On-Screen Text] The B82 averages speeds of 5MPH or less.
[Male] The biggest problem isn't waiting for the bus. It's when the bus is in transit
Because there's only one lane on each side and there's cars that come in and out and there's no dedicated bus lane it stops like
Every 20 seconds either for a stop or because a car is there so
Sometimes it's almost faster to walk
[On-Screen Text] [NYC DOT] When you're coming from Sheapshead Bay
and you're taking the BQ - you take Kings Highway [Female] then I walk from East 16th Street to West 10th Street and Avenue P
[On-Screen Text] [NYC DOT] Because the bus is that unreliable? [Female] Yes.
[On-Screen Text] These Problems impact 12,500 daily passengers who board the bus on Kings Highway between McDonald & Nostrand Avenues
