hi welcome to Hedgehog Hollow and welcome to this inktober fest bonus video as
well as joining me forsakes the crafty youtuber video hop we're so thankful for
Justine hosting this hop for us welcome Tyler Hedgehog hallo we hope you'll
stick around with us today I'm going to be showing you
Rita burrow cats new range of embossing powders they're a little bit of a
thicker granule and I've got some great tips and techniques for you so I'm
excited to show you those don't forget to check out our inktober playlist
linked in that top right hand corner and then you'll also be able to get even
more tips and create your tags along with us as well so let's get started
with these amazing embossing powders I mentioned I want to show you some tips
with embossing ink may be using Nouveau clear mark pad and talking about the pan
I also want to show you these new beautiful embossing powders from areata
barakat through Emerald Creek these are the magical mysteries series that she
sent me over only absolutely gorgeous colors and you can see they're all
related to fairy wings and fun things like that
and so I want to show you a couple of different things and I love how products
plays so well together so I here I am working on my easy clean matte portion
on my glass mat and the first thing I'm gonna do really is just swatch so I'm
just putting my embossing pad down just making sure there's a nice surface of it
there and I'm gonna pick out one of these mixed colors so here I have some
larger parts of midnight magic of dragons
and there's also this one the step is gorgeous
this is kiss of the fairy there's also this mermaid fin that has these are
larger crystals than more so they're less like a general embossing powder
more like an ultra thick embossing powder with that larger crystal and then
they have glitter mixed in this one has a colored large granule and then glitter
mixed in so we're gonna try this one just because I'm really intrigued by the
color so you can see it there so know if this up so you can see so I have gold
and a pink powder in there I'm going to tip this off and I wouldn't
recommend giving it a big flick like we normally do I haven't put any kind of
deactivator down or anti-static in any way because I just want to see how these
colors come out and so I'm gonna go with that and they just eat it with my back
maketo he takes that feels normal and I want to show you on this one how
you heat it and then on the other ones I can skip out because you'll know what
I'm doing look at this ups you can see that
transition
so what you'll notice that's different about large granule or ultra thick
embossing powders is that you don't get full surface coverage on your first go
now this can be used to your advantage or we can build up layers which we're
gonna do on our project in a moment but what you can see here is I currently
have that kind of orange peel effect that means I could take something like
my distress inks and I could rub it in and the ink is gonna stick to those
creamy areas of my tag that's still there but not to my embossing powder now
if I wanted to get this to a straight thickness I can absolutely do that
and it goes just be in building up layers so I can go back in I can apply
my ink pad again I can grab more of that embossing powder add it on again and
these are just my little embossing powder trays that I use nothing special
they caught a tiny tray will link them up in the description for you so I'm
just gonna heat this one so now you can see the difference where I just have one
coat and where I have two coats two coats as much smooth as there's still a
little bit of that orange peel effect but not much at all and it's a much more
solid coverage and you can build these layers up and it's great because you can
make this as thick as you want you can make it look like enamel but then the
other thing that you can do and I'm gonna leave this tag to write some
things on afterwards is you can take this magical mysteries base and then use
these fairy wing powders on top and that's what I want to show you how to do
so first of all we're gonna start again with a tag and then I'm actually gonna
do it on some butterfly wings so you can see so I'm gonna take my embossing ink
and I'm going to apply to it this fairy wings base so again it's a thicker
granule embossing powder so you can see there that it's kind of come out the
other thing I like about this particular one is that it's iridescent many of
these ultra thick most founders are just clear or what single color
and love hereat has added multiple colors to this and they do the same
thing again I'm going to take my card I'm gonna apply it over the top I'm
going to add the ultra thick granule to it now I like having two two goes as my
base you can play around with what you like you may like just having that one
color sometimes I also fight easier to start heating from the bottom and then
go to the top its heats that layer underneath my second coat and starts to
remelt it so that you get a more even tone on the top but with two coats I
have a fairly even coverage if I just wanted to have this iridescent cover on
its own I would own a third one but I'm not I'm going to start adding these
beautiful add-ons and I'm going to show you my technique for doing this now I
know Rita does per slightly differently and I don't know that there's any wrong
or right way but this is the way I was taught when I used to use ultra thick
embossing powders many many years ago when Suzy Weinberg had arranged with
Ranger and this is how she taught to use them now you can either go in again with
your clear mark pad which is what I'm gonna do or if you just want to do
specific sections you could use something like the clear mark pen and I
may well use that on my project in a minute and so the reason that I have
this case under here is you can either have two of these maps to hand or you
can take this one and keep wiping it I'm a lazy crafter so I have two of them one
is gonna be for my glue one is gonna be for my embossing powder so what I'm now
going to do is I'm going to reapply that clear mark because it's been a few
minutes and I'm gonna take these fairy wings so we have a blue we have green we
have gold we have purple and we have now you can also apply these well that base
coat is still melted you're going to be want to be heating for the underneath
because if you put it on top that's it's gonna blow straight away so I'm now
going trip and I'm using my tonic craft spoon so
that I can apply small amounts because I want to minimize wastage and so I'm just
picking up a little of each color and I'm just tapping as I move around and
this as I say this just eliminates a lot of wastage here and so if you just keep
tapping that's going to apply that color for you if you stay in one place you're
gonna get a heavier amount if you keep moving it you're gonna get a lighter
amount and I like using this scoot and rather than the rounded end because it
means that my embossing powder fat can easily fall off which is what I want it
to do and the excess I can put back in there and I'd like a little bit more of
the green I think this is a really pretty green and I'd like a little bit
more blue
like so I'm going to put these lids on because I don't want to keep the
material in my bottle because that's not going to do it any good whatsoever
now although I've started with my clear mark base I'm gonna start with that
technique of heating from the bottom and then you're gonna see me move to the top
and the reason is that exact reason there where it's kind of gone upwards is
because it's got nothing although it's got the clear might under neath - a deer
- it's a very fine powder and it's far more likely to move around
so those colors have now melted in to that iridescent piece and so you can see
all those gorgeous colors I vanished to get in there and then here where I had
just the lighter areas and I don't have a lens on I can get much closer with
he's also melted in there and it looks different so depending on how many
layers you have underneath depends on how different it comes out so this is
two layers and then the color on top then on our project here and I've cut
out these gorgeous fairy wings from tonic these are the Celestia wings die
set and again I'll link everything in the description for you I'm going to do
the same thing but I'm just going to put the one coat on so that you can attach
this and this together and then you can see the difference you can see up here
where it's just a little bit of powder that allowed it to set on how you get a
different effect so let's try it a few different ways and I've totally got my
easy clean mattes and muddled up but that's okay so I'm going to start with
the base and I'm going to put the base all over and this whole inktober thing
is all about experimentation so I'm going to heat this up and I'm going to
use my tweezers to hold it in place now on line outside of my wings I'm going to
take this side closest to me I'm going to add two layers of that base so that
you can see it's a difference what the different layers do and then you can
also when you attach this to your tag you can make those notes of left half
with two bases right half was one base so again I'm gonna do the same thing I'm
going to take my tweezers this time I can hold it on the other side
and as I mentioned this base gives you a beautiful beautiful iridescent base and
it is it's hard to pick up on camera but it's super Iridessa it's absolutely
beautiful and the reason I love it is because I could just leave that if it
was on vellum I would have an absolutely beautiful wing with that iridescent base
and those delicate sau-lan details so now we're going to go in and we're gonna
add our colors so I'm going to add my clear mark on this piece just so I try
not to contaminate I've given this piece now just wiping my other easy clean
matte free of the adhesive just with a wipe so this is now covered completely
I'm not going to use the guard I wasn't making another goal but I love all these
beautiful colors I think I'm gonna go with the pink green and blue because I
just loved how they came out let's do the purple as well I just felt the gold
for this project wasn't what I wanted
but I'm gonna go over here and as I say by using my spoon this is going to
alleviate a lot of wastage and you could also pick all of these up so now I'm
finished with my purple I could do is take this and I could add it back in to
my peace or I could have put it in a tidy afraid and move on I'm just going
to give this another wipe over but you can do whatever way it works for you I'm
just gonna add a little bit of the green on there and you can tell that a little
pot it's gonna last you a long time I also want to show you about the keeping
it hot technique and a couple of tips I have for you if you want to go with that
method so I'm just gonna add some areas and then I'm gonna heat set this and I'm
going to add the other areas using that other technique so I'm gonna go with
that so if you want to go without heating it and tall you either want to
heat this runs anything with a fine piece it's gonna be kind of hard I'm
gonna heat up my heat it craft all from my
and I'm a concentrate area at a time so I'm going to take this I'm going to take
this away I'm going to add those bits of green on and then I'm going to take my
heat at all and that is going to melt it straight in I'm going to heat the next
area which is kind of a bit down the wings I'm now going to add my pink
and I'm gonna go with my he checked or so this has a lower airflow which is
going to enable me to go straight back in all the time and add different colors
I'm just total miss to the side so you get to see the wings as well now I'm
gonna go with the bottom bit of this wing I'm gonna go in my purple I'm gonna
lift away for a second because I don't want any airflow on it
while I'm adding my powder and now I'm gonna go in and heat it and I'm going to
show you how to clean off your easy-clean mats as well because it's a
really easy way to get all this and most of them held off too and so you can keep
going in and adding different colors I'm going to do the same on the other side
so I'm going to heat an area so you can see if I'm adding it at the same time
I've got heat that heat is blowing my powder because it's a super fine powder
so that's why I take it away I add my color
and I go back in again
I'm gonna heat
I'm gonna pull away I'm gonna add my powder as I say there are ways as I
showed you that you can just work with one color clear that away what units
color and that alleviates a lot of waste to I'm being a little bit more wasteful
just trying to get it done on camera because I know you don't want to watch a
half an hour video of me just changing colors backwards and forwards but that's
how you would do it now my final thing is sometimes they may be unmelted powder
on there just because the heat at all I find is not the best for embossing but
it's perfect for that technique so I'm going to take my back and I just went
all over just to make sure everything is melted in and there's no loose powder on
top so let's put our lids back on again because I know that I'm gonna tip one of
these over if I keep going blue and these come in a sets and it's some of
those fairy wings always in sets and you can find those on the website that we've
linked for you in that description now how do I clear up because I know that's
always a question so first of all let's look at those gorgeous fairy leaves and
they are still flexible so I can still bend them and I can still add them on to
my piece here so I'm going to stick them on to here but look it wouldn't that be
the most beautiful embellishment on a card and you could also put the
iridescent on the reverse let's do that actually so I can show you so first of
all I'm going to show you clear I'm gonna take my Tim Holtz creeper I'm
going to go over this I do have my trash can beside me so I can dust this off
into that so you can see the half that I scraped on the half that I didn't scrape
you can see that scrape line across there that is literally it if you have a
stupid stubborn area that doesn't want to go anywhere on
you just give it a blast of heat it will be melted and you can roll it straight
up but you can see with that scraper how easy that really is to clear up this box
a little bit like if the heat is gonna come off
and it's gonna end up looking back like this one so don't worry about clear up
of them this is a loose powder but the same would apply if I had it on my net I
could do exactly the same way but what I want to show you is if I grab my include
mark and I flip this lovely space off here if I grab that grab my tiny tray
again and our fairy wings base this is
absolutely gorgeous I am totally surprised at how this came
out iridescent now I'm using my own most tweezers I'm not gonna hold it anywhere
but I'm gonna apply heat to because that heat is gonna go straight down my
conductive scissors my tweezers even but the easiest way to hold it is don't hold
it on a piece here because you'll end up with a dent in it put your tweezers into
a pot so I'll keep this side I'm gonna pick it up just make sure that nothing's
stuck down you can see there I caught my hand super hot so there you can see and
then what's gorgeous about it is on my embellishment they have that iridescent
and I have that beautiful color side you could of course make both sides colored
but also by heating the bottom something I've noticed is those colors have run
together even more to create a beautiful embellishment and the other thing I want
to quickly show you is this was one base coat side so you see how you get more
kind of granular effect the colors are a little bit more distinguished this was
two base coats so these those Purple's from perfectly into the blues and the
greens and you have a lovely embellishment as I say you can fold that
I would heat it before you fold it because otherwise it will crack if you
have it kind of mildly warm like this one still is I can do this and these
dyes do have fairy bodies and fairy people you can add them to and all sorts
of other fun things will link that series in the description for you I hope
