Informational interview summary video - Duration: 3:44.
for my informational interview I interviewed Chris Bennett and her title
is a CA h h IM operational manager and for those of you that don't know what h
IM stands for its health informational manager her work setting is in a
critical access hospital the hospital is st. luke's elmore hospital and mountain
home but technically she's a system employee if you were to start out in
this field as a coder they make about 22 to 25 dollars an hour in a health
informational specialist at an entry level would be ten to fifteen dollars an
hour graduates with the bachelors degree start salaries in thirty to fifty
thousand dollar range a year in health information management with five years
of experience can start upwards of fifty to ninety thousand dollars a year the
edge' call educational background or experience that would be helpful when
entering this field would be having an h IM degree or a coding credential which
needs to be verified and certified by a h IMA the most rewarding things about
health information management management is you get to help people with their
health a doctors rely on health information for patients records for
example if the patient sees a doctor the health information managers make sure
that the doctors know the prescriptions they know the surgeries they've had the
care that they've received are the treatment they've received
if they don't know this information then
they're not going to be able to help the patient's h-i-m is always growing and
healthcare will not function without it
h-i-m is constantly involving with new things and the technology that they come
out with helps patients records every day
Chris would recommend career shadowing or even just getting your foot in the
door you could try to get your foot in the door by doing an entry-level
position so that you know what health information is all about there is not a
high turnover once you get in you're usually in when there's a problem salt
it's usually solved with patience and professionalism if you're the type that
gets offended easily or you get frustrated easily this would not be a
job for you I think I would enjoy this type of job I've been a CNA for 22 years
and I've had a lot of hands-on experience in the medical field and now
I kinda would like to see what type of help I can give people with not so much
hands-on
