This Is A Video Essay - Duration: 4:43.
This is a video essay. It has all the intellectual satisfaction as an actual
academic essay but without any of that tough thinking stuff you normally need
to do when parsing a difficult argument. And this is where I make my opening
point. I separate my points with title cards that last about three seconds
longer than they should but you don't mind too much because you like the
excerpt of the song whose artists I didn't ask permission to use while the
title card was on the screen. Never mind that you already lost interest in what I
was saying. What's this essay about? Who cares I'm speaking to you informally.
Doesn't this feel intimate? Doesn't this feel personal? Doesn't this trick your
brain into thinking you finally have a friend? Cuz you do have a friend now, I'm
that cool wise funny friend you've always wanted in your life but never
found because you spent all your time watching video essays. Look at this
editing: fluid, precise, oh wait this is just footage of a nerd writer video but
you don't care and neither does YouTube. Here's some stock footage I got it from
looking up "stock footage" on Google. Look, here's some people walking around here's
a bird, a giraffe, who shot this? who cares, some of the footage is licensed and
requires credit but the only copyright YouTube cares about is songs and full
videos so you can steal as many of these smaller videos as you want and give no
credit to them whatsoever. Who cares about how ethical the media
you consume is, it makes the entertainment neurons fire in your brain!
I could have stolen this footage off a man whose entire life was spent
culminating into this one beautiful shot and all he ever wanted was a credit link
to his Instagram page in the description of this YouTube video and I won't give
it to him. Why? Because I'm a sadistic youtuber who only cares about that sweet
sweet view count like and subscribe bitches!
You'll notice my second point isn't really that different from my first
point if you think hard enough about it but I'm not concerned with that because
first of all you won't think hard enough and second because these overly long
title cards will make you assume I'm arguing entirely different points
between these sections when in reality I just didn't organize my thoughts very
well at all and then put these title cards up to make you think that I had

could fact check what I'm saying but I think I'll just leave it up to you to
decide whether I'm lying or not, but if anyone calls me out on this I think I'll
just say I was misremembering the data. What are people gonna do give me a
failing grade? The worst I'll get is a comment on the video saying that I was
lying and who's gonna see that, 15 people? Most people don't consume content
intellectually we don't have time to fact check everything that's said so we end up
believing a bunch of garbage. We prize entertainment over information because
that's what we've come to expect from the things we consume, no wonder when we
get into arguments we end up using a bunch of faulty information we
remember from some video we were barely paying attention to five months ago
I made a typo in that slide I don't care you don't care here's some shots of that
anime you like oh yeah I know you like these visuals I didn't do any work for
them I'm not even directly commenting on them but they just thematically go
with what I'm saying you know? But now it's time for the bridge of this video
essay where I address straw man counter-arguments only an idiot would
say and then expertly rebuke them even though I brought those points up myself
proving that I'm an all-knowing all-powerful intellectual force. One
might ask, are video essays really the worst thing ever created in the history
of mankind? No, they can actually help to illustrate complex points visually and
can make topics appeal to those that would normally be inaccessible through a
regular essay. I don't read academic essays but I regularly consume video
essays. They are really only as lazy's the people making them, but watching a
video essay doesn't make you smart. Most are poorly researched, most win you
over with visuals or actual facts and the sounds and visuals are often stolen
without credit a lot aren't even that well edited, and way too many focus on
the analysis of the same dang things. Now I've reached my conclusion. You don't
fully understand how I got to this conclusion but your brain is telling you
that you understand my argument you might even repeat this argument to
others confident you know what the fuck you're talking about you will think that
you're somewhere even close to grasping the full complexity of whatever I just
dumbed down into this five minute video. You're wrong but you don't care you just
feel like you're right and that's what's important because at the end of the day
this isn't a text book this isn't an academic paper this is a neatly packaged
idea to make you feel smart this is a video essay

ayo guys enigma here happy Saturday to all you beautiful individuals in the
comment section um guys I just want to say thanks for the feedback in the last
video thanks for likes and much respect to to Omexheartless and definitely
triple seven I want to give a big special out to them and especially Omex
heartless he's always in a comment section always giving me feedback and
dude I really appreciate you and that's for triple 7 this video is kind of a
twist off with me you were talking about about the roster guys the roster to me
I'm not gonna say his lackluster but i'm gonna say that bandai namco is dropping
the ball guys we just came off of a great beta and instead of them giving us
more content you just go ahead and be like "on whatever we're gonna just push Soul
Calibur" yes it's a business guys it's a business
we know Soul Calibur just drop they want to get that out there and then you got
on a 26th you got My Hero One Justice come out so they're gonna push that
as well so we might not see J-Stars new... I'm sorry we may not see jump force news
for about two weeks that's a long time I know the Jump Festa is coming up in
December they may be news can happen then maybe but this what I'm going to
talk about guys is the game being catered to Western audience more than
the eastern audience over there why I say that if you look at the roster right
now all the characters have been announced we in America are very
familiar with these people and you would think it's kind of weird that they
haven't announced a Jojo character knowing that golden wind just came out
and if you didn't see Golden Wind, Guys you need to go check that out if you're not
a Jojo fan please get off your high horse watch the series you're missing
out on some good stuff now I'm just gonna break this down real quick for
everybody not gonna try to take up nobody Saturday we're gonna have a good time

bunch of polls to figure out the top 10 anime and manga within the United
States and Japan now granted we're gonna go with the United States one first
obviously I'm American so we'll be doing United States I went with anime and the
number one and the main United States of all time it's Pokemon so we're not
talking about pokemons obviously not jump character so we're talking about
jump characters I went through all the list and I snatched all of the jump
series and put them in I guess in number order so when I grab the list at number
10 they go on bleach honestly it's not my list guys he's just about 5 to 10
different polls that I went through and I kind of snatched them up a lot of
these numbers were in the high 25s some of them were down in the top 10 but this
is the list that we got for the United States so number 10 we got bleach number
9 yu yu hakusho number 8 food Wars that's interesting number 7 we got Fist
of the North Star of course the og anime right there
number 6 we got a saint seiya number 5 Death Note, Number 4 Hunter X Hunter, number 3
One Piece number 2 Naruto and number one of course Dragon Ball series um guys
look at the list right now having some of these characters already been
announced let's be a trust be honest with ourselves Death Note is in the top
10 anime especially for United States of all time and the first thing they show
in the e3 trailer they had Naruto you got Luffy, you got Goku in the end you show
Light Yagami why light [...] to me it makes no other sense but obviously it
and [...] it's another thing guys they announced jump force
on E3 for Xbox does that not ring a bell to you guys
now but I'm doing a console war guys we're not doing that I'm just saying
Xbox is the American system of course they're gonna say to the American
audience guess well we have this jump force game coming out whoo Wow even
those are all these consoles we're gonna drop it in the Americans console display
now we already up the characters a lot of trails that have characters right
there obviously we haven't seen Kenshiro yet I doubted we're gonna see sama okay
we're not gonna see sama because it makes no sense but Ken Cheryl is he
should be locked in now here's the interesting thing guys the Japanese poll
is similar but a little bit different so a number 10 we're looking at you the
haka shoe number 9 roni Kenshin 8 Hunter hunter 7 Jojo bizarre adventures now
that right there is a key thing for me obviously Jojo is popular around the
world but it's more popular in Japan now number 6
they have bleach number 5 which is interesting slam dunk in my sports
analysis video I was going to add characters from slam dunk but I said
this wouldn't make any sense so if you ever seen that video guys it should be
an annotation come on the screen right about now and should check that out
number 4 Naruto you northern arch was number 2 on our list though number 3
gotcha economy of course of course I'll be up there probably was the longest
running manga series and Shonen Jump history there's no reason while he
doesn't get into the game I don't care if you're the guy Kirkland I don't care
the tone they're trying to put into the game guys he's gonna make the list he
gots to number 2 Dragon Ball number 1 of course one piece one piece of his own
damn theme park of course is popular guys let's just face it I feel like the
game is gonna be catered to the Western audience is that a bad thing
not necessarily it means we might get more characters from the same series
that was on the top 10 of the United States list
maybe we'll get he a and we'll get Kurama for the OVH drop in real soon
I don't know maybe we'll get I don't know maybe we will get saga or we'll get
he needs to say say it we know we don't know what I do want is I want Toriko now
Tirico is more popular in Japan than it is in America but there's no reason why
this man doesn't make the list sup keep my eye out for him but anyway guys I
want to say the roster to me is looking really damn good debated of 15
characters and beta was awesome do I want more of course do I want most of
the people that's on the Japanese list of course and more I need to go and take
all the characters in here J stars that was used online competitively and they
put them in the game automatically this should be no dispute about that but
