Waching daily Apr 6 2017

One of my fav TV series of all time is Weeds. I loved Nancy and her misadventures.

I loved the blue Prius she drove and wanted one as well.

But wait, this isn't Prius, it's a Hyundai Ioniq!

Ioniq is Hyundai's first attempt at mass produced hybrid and electric cars.

I drove a hybrid, but there's also electric version available.

The hybrid in this case means the electric motor and the petrol motor run together in order to produce optimal output.

In some cases, the car can run on electric only, on short distances

In other cases, petrol engine is not only running the car but also charges the electric batteries to use it later, while accelerating.

Let's take a look inside

443 litres, no hooks that I like so much, but there's an elastic net, very practical if you want to put a small shopping bag or a bottle of wine in the boot

The opening is high.... Ah, there you go.

And a slide preventing the world from peeking inside

The car has a lot of room in the back - especially of the driver is not 2 metres tall

Nothing special, huh? Except for this: heated back seats!

There's also an arm rest, a place to put one's mug etc.

So, let's see how it feels behind the wheel of Ioniq

This version comes with electric seats with memory function

What else does it have? Quite a lot of space inside

Here, for example

My phone fits here - moreover, it can be charged wirelessly!

My sunnies fit here

There's my coffee mug

And here's sth I don't usually find in cars. This is instruction manual, but a tablet will easily fit in here - excellent for traveling salespeople.

I drove most of the Priuses, including the newest one.

And sadly, my love of the eco-ugly duckling subsided a bit.

Because a Prius is slooooow.

Or rather - that's the feeling you get because of the CVT gearbox, the one that makes noises like a lawnmower

So any acceleration feels like an inconvenience.

Ioniq is equipped with a dual-clutch gearbox, so it feels more dynamic.

Although it's slower than a Prius

I drove Ioniq in the city and to the suburbs, and yes, dynamic driving is possible.

As for visibility, it's OK, A pillar is not blocking my view entirely

Which is not sth I can say about many cars

As for backwards visibility, there's no problem thanks to the camera. If there was none, this strange, dual glass would be a concern, probably.

But with a camera, there's no problem at all.

Hybrid cars are supposed to be cost-effective and eco-friendly.

Opponents remind about the problem with storing used batteries.

But first hybrid cars are still fully functional, and on original batteries

Also, every car manufacturer has a way of re-using old car batteries

For example for storing energy from solar panels installed on roofs

Oh, and by the way, LiPo batteries are used not only in cars (they're used by Hyundai and KIA), but also in smartphones, electric drills and e-cigarettes.

And I don't see anybody complaining about it.

Price-wise, Hyundai Ioniq is similar to Skoda Octavia with 1.0 TSI engine I reviewed recently.

Fuel costs will also be similar, because fuel consumption in 1.0 litre 3-cylinder Skoda engine and in hybrid Ioniq engine are almost the same.

So, there's no obvious upside to buying Hyundai Ioniq

But Hyundai looks futuristic, and Skoda... like a Skoda

Installing Magnets / BJD Live - Duration: 1:59.

Let's talk about magnets!

Many of our dolls use magnetic joint system

developed my Svetlana Germanova.

Thanks to this system

swapping heads only takes seconds.

In this video we will talk about how magnets should be installed

if you are assembling one our dolls yourself.

Take the part with the socket and install the ball joint.

Ball joints are designed to be tight

so it's normal that you have to put in some effort.

The material we use is very solid,

but it's still possible to break it if you push super hard.

So if you feel it's not working,

try widening the socket ever so slightly with a knife.

The joint goes in and you can work it a little to loosen it up.

One goes into the socket and the other into the head.

Any strong glue should be fine.

Here we also use sandpaper

because the magnet went too deep into the socket

and we need it to be right on the edge.

It's very important to get the polarity right with the second magnet.

If you make a mistake magnets will obviousy repel each other

and once a magnet is glued in

it almost impossible to take it out.

For the head magnet we use glue pistol

to create a layer of glue around the magnet.

It's sometimes necessery

if a magnet is a little too small for the socket.

Give the glue a little time to dry and that's it.

The head should click into position.

Wheelie tutorial / how to | german with english subtitles - Duration: 4:27.

I got asked to do a wheelie tutorial somewhere in the comments and I accidentally said "yes"

technically there are 100 other tutorials out there but whatever - lets do another one

I'll try to keep it simple lets start with bike setup

saddle position: medium

if it's too high I can't balance to the side and if it's too low it's feeling uncomfortable to ride

what gear?: I got 11 gears and I also chose the middle one

but that depends on personal preference

However it's important to have a good working rear brake for when you fall over

flat pedals make things easier and hardtails aren't bad

to answer the question "can I do a wheelie with bike "xyz" " - yes probably...

if it's not a beachcruiser or even weirder sort of bicycle it should be fine

with some bikes it's easier to learn with other harder... but once you mastered it you'll be able to do it with every bike

for practicing every flat area is good enough

a little uphill is even better but not essential

well then.. step 1

lets pretend we're pedaling somewhere.. leaning towards the front..

over the bars.. and with an explosive movement the whole thing gets started

as soon as you are near the balance point - try to keep your position by pedaling

that's it basically... I'll show you

and again

A common mistake is that people don't build up momentum and just pull the bars and pedal..

they'll get pretty fast and have to drop down soon

well but not anymore - now you know

Well... if you got this dialed you'll notice that the balance to the side is the key task...

I think the best way to keep the balance is by using the knees

same as doing a trackstand

like a chicken

you have to teach your brain "if this happens - do that"

that's a huge cybernetic effort and takes some time... how much depends on the rider

already while starting I'm balancing with my knees

see?

so I mostly use the knees for balancing but you can also do a little bit of steering

but there's no trick to learn that...just practive...

well that was the wheelie tutorial.. The manual tutorial will follow another time since I need another venue

have fun practicing

and if you somehow liked it there's a whip tutorial somewhere and also a switchback tutorial

and the wind is really... well ... cya

What If You're Born Without Sympathy & Empathy? - Duration: 3:34.

Hey there, and welcome to Life Noggin.

You're watching a friend hang a picture on the wall of your house.

She swings the hammer.

Her hand slips, and she smashes her thumb.

You rush to her side to make sure she's okay, not just because you don't want her

to sue you, but because she's your friend and a fellow human.

You can imagine what she's going through.

What's happening in your brain is a complex process that we've evolved to help us survive

as a species.

It's called empathy, and it's 'the capacity to understand or feel what another person

is experiencing.'

It's different from sympathy in that you're putting yourself in someone else's place

and understanding what they're going through, not just feeling sorry for them.

While empathy can be seen in other species--dogs and primates come to mind--it's actually

rare in the animal kingdom.

So how did you lucky humans develop it?

Well humans gained empathy in three steps.

First, humans began pair bonding with our mates as a way of raising our young.

The need to cooperate with another person to keep babies alive encouraged our brains

to grow.

Second, humans started living in communities.

Having to regularly deal with other people made us smarter.

If you've ever had roommates who refused to /pick up after themselves on occasion/,

then you know how important it is to be able to live together in peace AND THROW OUT THE

GARBAGE ONCE IN A WHILE!

Third, human tribes had to cooperate to survive in harsh environments, where food was scarce.

Here, we learned the importance of putting the good of all over our own desires.

Essentially, /relationships/ are at the core of why we evolved the way we did.

Isn't that beautiful?

Everybody reach out and hug somebody.

I mean, someone you know, if they're cool with it.

Don't hug strangers.

Studies have shown that people seeing images of others in pain experience activity in the

anterior cingulate cortex and the anterior insula, areas of the brain that process pain.

When you tell your friend, "I feel your pain," you're not just being cliche.

You kinda /do./ And that's amazing.

Human beings are still naturally self-centered, however.

We project /our/ life experiences and emotional states on others.

To compensate for that, another part of our brains, the right supramarginal gyrus, separates

/our/ emotions from those we see in others.

It keeps us from going full Johnny Bravo on people and helps us understand what /they're/

going through, even if it's different than our own experiences.

Knowing this about human development, it seems obvious that empathy is part of our nature,

that it's not something we /learn./ But that's not the whole story.

We're born with the basics of empathy, but it takes work to make us empathy pros.

See, children need to be empathized /with/ in order to fully experience empathy themselves.

If your caretakers empathize with you, you're more likely to be an empathetic person.

On the other hand, you can be taught /not/ to empathize, or be born with a disconnect

in the empathetic centers of the brain.

Some researchers believe those who lack empathy due to, say, a difficult childhood suffer

from sociopathy, and those who are /born/ with an inability to empathize suffer from

psychopathy.

Words like "sociopath" and "psychopath" get thrown around casually, so it's important

to know these are real conditions that people deal with, even if it's only a small percentage

of the population.

Are you an empathetic person?

What other mental processes that we take for granted do you want to see covered?

Let me know in the comments.

Have you ever wondered if humans are naturally born good or bad?

Check out this episode.

Make sure you come back every Monday for a brand new video.

As always, I'm Blocko and this has been Life Noggin.

Don't forget to keep on thinking!

HRM-7 Studio Monitor Headphones: In The Studio with Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier - Duration: 2:22.

hi I'm Dan Ghenacia, we're at Chris Carrier's

studio in Paris. 20 years ago we met. I'd

always been traveling and coming

back to Paris just for a few days to say hi

to my friend and we start to make a

beat and then we make a track and then we

did it like really regularly. Electronic

music in general is getting more popular

clubs are more busy, at least when we

play it's getting more busy than it used to be.

For Europe it's a long time but there is

a real progression in America. Yeah it's

getting more popular for sure

I use the headphones mostly at the end, when I finish the

balance in the mix, to see if everything

is in a good place in the space.

The headphones always there, especially

between different speakers using your

headphones as a reference it's really nice

So usually when I go in the studio

with my friend I take the headphone to

have a reference because I don't know

the speaker and the room so it's hard to

know where I am. The headphones are

transparent, it's really nice because if

you have to many high frequencies in your

monitor naturally you're gonna turn it

down; they'll be not enough in the club.

So what you're here in the headphones is

what you hear in the club. We mainly use the

headphones for the high frequencies and

to have a good space dimension.

The stereo is perfect, it's really really

cool to work especially in the high

frequencies, to work on the details.

They look like real studio headphones.

They're comfortable for sure. The velvet pad

is really smooth and its really light.

Thye're pretty big but they're really robust

I prefer enclosed [headphones] in the

studio because I'm inside the music, no

noise around coming to disturb me, and

you cannot hear me, and I cannot you!

Eyewitness report of a forestry worker who was attacked by alien - tech and science - Duration: 1:47.

Eyewitness report of a forestry worker who was attacked by aliens in Scotland

He arrived for work as normal in his company-owned pick-up truck with his Irish red setter Larah

and started to walk down the path into the woods.

But as he rounded the path into a clearing he was absolutely astonished to see what he

later described as a large dome-shaped object of about 20-30ft circumference hovering

15ft above the surface of the grass.

He said that parts of it seemed to disappear around the edges, it would seem to dematerialize

so he could see the trees behind it, then solidify again.

As he watched it, what resembled two WWII sea mines dropped from beneath the object

and rolled towards him and just before they reached him a burning smell, like burning

brake lines, flooded the area and he heard a loud swishing noise.

The mines rolled across the grass and rods came out of them, which attached themselves

to his hips and began to pull him towards the object.

At this point he lost consciousness, he didnt know for how long but thought it could only

have been for one or two minutes.

When he came to the objects were gone and there were marks and holes on the ground,

more than 20 circular or triangular indentations in the grass.

Robert also had a nasty graze on his forehead and another one on his chin, and an incredible

thirst.

EBS Cape Town - European Bartender School - Duration: 4:17.

Cape Town is the Mother City of South Africa and

also rated as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

We are surrounded by nature, we have a beautiful culture,

we have great people with creative minds and it's

one of the rarest combinations you'll ever find in any other city.

Our school is situated in one of the up-and-coming areas in Cape Town, called Woodstock.

We've found this beautiful historic warehouse and managed to

transform it into one big, open-plan school, which is full of energy, full of light,

so the students have loads of fun when they're here, and every single day during their course.

The course is very intense, but you learn a lot, a lot, a lot!

It's really worth it and it's just an awesome experience.

So I just blended it up into like a sort of bitter orange sugar,

so I think that bitter orange will evolve all of the fruity notes of this drink.

The vibe in the school is very, very awesome,

the teachers are calm and they're like on our level,

even though they are instructors. They're not too old, you know?

So that works really well and...

I'm lucky because the people in our group they are just awesome!

The course does not only focus on bartending during school time,

but we also do a lot of cool activities with the students around Cape Town.

So, for instance, a day on the beach flairing, or hiking up Lion's head

is something that really, really brings us all together and we end up having loads of fun.

Cape Town is such a great place to begin your bartending career, because we have such a diverse culture.

People are super friendly and we take bits and bobs of everything we see in our daily lives

to create a really, really awesome experience for our customers.

After the course, I directly started to work in a cocktail bar.

I changed my flights, I wanted to stay here longer because I love the vibe here.
