#12 I or We? When Talking About My Cleaning Biz - Duration: 5:09.
Hi there. I'm Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner.
This is a show where you get ask your house cleaning questions, and I get to help you
find any answer.
If I don't have the answer, I probably know somebody who does.
I'm connected to the best and the brightest minds in the housecleaning industry.
Now I've been a professional house cleaner for 25 years, and I've made all the mistakes
myself so you don't have to.
So how do you ask a question?

Okay cool.
Today's question comes from a woman, who is creating her procedures for her business.
And she says; "Do I use the word I or the word we?
Right now it's just me I'm the only one in my business.
But when I go on an initial walk through it with a client,
and the client starts asking me about how my business operates, am I supposed to say
we do it this way?
Or do I say I do it this way?
What is the appropriate thing?
Because one day I'm going to hire more people, but right now it's just me."
Okay, so my suggestion to you is this.
Get in the habit of using the term "we."
Very rarely does anyone ever work alone.
In my business when I got started it was just me.
But I really didn't work alone.
I had a circle of influence that were other people that I called, that I spun ideas off.
There are people that gave me advice.
I had clients that gave me advice, and would help me kind of figure out the ins-and-outs
of the housecleaning business.
So it was a collaborative effort from the beginning it was we,
it was not just "me" and "I".
And as I created scenarios and solutions for my business "this is how we operate."
Right?
And then as I got married, my husband was very supportive and I would spin ideas off
of him.
So very rarely do we work alone and as you hire people you bring them in your business
you don't want to be in the habit of always saying "I," "I," "I," because
it's not just about you.
It's about we.
This is a collaborative effort and you want to encompass everyone.
You want everybody to feel like they are a part of that exclusive, Inner Circle that
is your business.
Now, I have a Facebook group that is a closed private Facebook group
for professional house cleaners.
If you are a professional house cleaner and you're not a member of that group
come on over.
There are thousands of people in that group that share freely ideas about the housecleaning
industry. And answer questions and they're all very helpful.
Because we're not competing directly with each other we are collaborating.
There's a huge difference right?
This is not just about myself.
"I'm the Lone Ranger and I'm going out here to clean houses."
This is there's an entire industry and housecleaning industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry
it's a huge industry.
And it's pretty easy to get into.
It doesn't require a whole lot of upfront costs.
And it doesn't require a college education.
And there aren't a lot of barriers that prevent you from getting into the housecleaning business.
But I will tell you this, it is a business.
And so all the rules that apply to regular businesses also apply to housecleaning.
And so as you start your house cleaning business yes, you may only be one person.
But the sooner you take on the philosophy of we, it is we as a team, we are building
this business.
The sooner and the quicker your business will grow because at an unconscious level you're
sending a message; "Oh I'm The Lone Ranger I do this myself, or you're sending a message
that says we are doing this."
And as you hire more people and you bring them into that space, it's a collaborative
effort that your unconscious mind already recognizes because you've already programmed
your mind to consider this as a team.
So even if you're just starting out today, you're one person, my suggestion to you is
say "we" and move from there.
