hi guys my name is lucas from shotgun
media thanks for joining me for another
episode of down the barrel today we're
going to be talking about why corporate
videos fail so stay tuned and don't
forget to subscribe reasons why corporate
videos fail many business owners realize
and respect the impact quality corporate
video can have on their bottom line a
good video can attract new customers
retain current ones and create a buzz
that will expand your audience space and
help you meet your goals particularly
now with advancements in technology the
web social media making videos so
accessible it doesn't take much to
create a successful corporate video am i
right at least that's what you thought
before you spend thousands of dollars
and countless hours creating your video
now after the fact you left scratching
your head wondering why is no one
watching your video and why it hasn't
delivered the results you'd hopped for here
are some of the most common reasons why
corporate videos fall short of their
expectations your video doesn't
instantly engage the average human
attention span is now shorter than a
goldfish 8 seconds you have even less
time than that to grab your viewers
attention if you don't include a clever
hook within the first six seconds you'll
lose your viewer and potentially and
customer you use distracting audio most
amateur video producers throw all their
focus and energy into the video content
of their production however the audio of
your production is just as important the
music and soundtrack you choose must be
relevant and complement the mood and
message of your content but it's not
just music you have to contend with
audio is consistently the most difficult
aspect of the video production to master
capturing consistent and audible audio
without all that hissing requires a
thorough understanding of equipment as
well as placement of microphones based
on the setting and desired effects your
corporate video doesn't include any
clear course of
action the number one reason why you're
creating a corporate video is to have
the viewers take action these days your
viewers can even take action right
within your video for example by
clicking on an active link we often see
businesses lean too heavily on
creativity and fun at the expense of
their call to action when crafting your
script and storyboard be sure that you
make your call to action obvious from
the start if for example you have a five
minute video you don't introduce the
call to action until the very end you're
likely losing a lot of people who may
have converted if you had introduced the
option to them earlier you focus all
about you video is an immensely powerful
medium because it has the ability to
connect your brand with your audience
but you miss out on this connection if
you focus solely on yourself take a page
out of Steve Jobs book when
introducing the ipod he could have said
that Apple made this incredible product
that holds five gigs of data instead
what he said was you can put a thousand
songs in your pocket this focus on the
benefits your viewers will enjoy will
not only connect you with your audience
but will also keep your viewers engaged
throughout the entirety of your video
you go star wars with the effects Star
Wars is an immensely popular film series
and while many effects within the movie
were groundbreaking it's scene
transitions were shall we say a little
bit cheesy we mentioned this because in
today's day and age special effects are
easy to come by it just takes a few
clicks of a button to add these types
effects that Hollywood wouldn't pay
thousands for decades ago but just
because you can use effects doesn't mean
you should a special effect like your
audio should complement the message not
distract from it besides one day those
effects will likely be dated so the less
you rely on these little extras in your
video the longer shelf life your video
will likely have creativity is welcomed
but in the end keep it short sweet and
simple none of your viewers will want to
watch your video if it's boring and
long-winded creativity is key towards a
successful corporate video however in
the end you should never lose sight of
the true purpose of your project to get
your viewers to convert build your video
around that purpose and you'll likely
not suffer the same fate as many others
that have dreamed of a successful
corporate video only to be let down
