I'm talking about the music video for Perfect by Ed Sheeran
There are many different lighting techniques but this moment with signal flares in the
snow has drawn our attention the most so we tried to recreate it.
Let's check out the result!

We had fun.
Did you notice we shot this footage when twilight had come like in the original video but at
the same time the result doesn't seem too dark?
The secret is in the snow 'cuz white surfaces can reflect the light.
The snow, white walls or even the ceiling can reflect light that hits them.
There are professional photo reflectors too.
For instance, we used one during the shooting the episode on 2D animation in the video.
There are silver and golden photo reflectors.
Use the silver reflector to achieve a colder light.
The golden reflector gives a warmer effect.
If you have no photo reflector, honestly, a sheet of foil will do the trick.
We've already shot the episode in which we used a piece of foil as the reflector.

To shoot our example for today's episode we used snow as a natural reflector, just
like in Ed Sheeran's music video, because white reflects the light while black absorbs
it.
This knowledge can help you in other cases.
Let's say you're shooting an object lying on a table.
The light lands on the object through a window.
Do you see these sharp shadows?
You can remove them just by setting a white sheet of paper opposite the window out of
frame.
As you understand it won't work with a black sheet of paper.
That's it.
Now you know that you can get more light not only from the light source like a lamp, a
stage light, or sun but also from their reflections.
