Macau China - Macau Travel Video About Things To Do In Macau - Duration: 25:28.Join me as I will go explore around the streets of historic Macau. Macau was formerly a Portuguese colony and they took a great part in shaping it
into what it is today. It is a place with a rich history and it is a popular tourist destination as it is only 1 hour from Hong Kong with a catamaran.
I will taste some delicious food, visit a cathedral, a fortress and the popular Museum of Macau to understand the history better.
Stay tuned and join me while I explore this autonomous region on the south coast of China.
It is time to go explore a bit around in Macau city. If you have not seen my video where I travel from Hong Kong to Macau with the Turbojet ferry, you can do so
by clicking the link in the top right corner now. In that video, you can see how I got to where I am now.
I came to Macau with the Turbojet ferry and took a bus from the pier to the city. Straight of the bus, I went into an institute where they had an exhibition of
art of porcelain from the Ming period. If you would like to see the 6-7 minutes long video of the exhibition, you can click the link in the top right-hand corner now.
With all the sorted we can start to explore the historic city of Macau :-)
It is a lovely day with sun and clear blue sky. It is still early and not all shops are open yet, but I have already managed to fall for the temptation
to buy something... Almost one kilo of barbecue pork... I guess that will keep me with lunch for a while ;-)
Looks like we are in a small street with many small shops. Local people are walking around buying different kinds of products.
Without the GPS it is hard to know where I am headed, but it looks like I am headed away from the tourist track and I will see if I can find my way back :-)
St. Dominic's Church
Some tourists are getting some breakfast which reminds me.... that I have not had any breakfast either...
It looks tempting even that I do not know what it is :-D
More temptation... and now my stomach has started to complain... ;-) I guess "it" smelled the food...
The temptation got too big. It is some kind of soup with vegetables, meat and seafood of your choice. It is a bit cool this morning also so it will be
nice with some hot food to get my body temperature up a bit.
I am getting more hungry by the minute now when I know that food is on its way... :-D
And by the sound of the growling stomach it is about time to feed it ... ;-)
Looks like more people are also hungry :-) It is the best sales tactic. Let the people see and smell the food.... and you will sell the food... ;-)
A little bit spicy... hmmm.. I wonder where I have heard that before... best to take it easy on the chilli's as long as I do not know what they mean by "A little bit spicy".. ;-D
Lots of big chunks of vegetables and other.... things... ;-)
And I have found myself a quiet place to enjoy the meal away from all the crowds.
I guess we agreed on putting a little bit of everything inside ;-)
Slippery stuff...
I will spare you of having to watch me eat it all ;-) Lets forward a bit to more interesting part of my trip.
After breakfast comes desert... not normally...;-) , but I could not help myself when I noticed these in the shop. Just out of the oven. Egg tarts!
They are selling them all over Macau and Hong Kong and you will have to try them when you visit.
Largo da Se Plaza
Episcopal Palace
Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady
Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady was built in 1622 and are on the list of World Heritage Sites in China.
I finally got myself a sim-card from this little shop. Very friendly staff as well :-)
There seems to be McDonald's everywhere in this world. It is the last solution for me when I am hungry.
That looks like an interesting building.
Teatro Capitol! The only cinema listed on the cultural heritage list of Macau. It opened to business on 13th April 1931 with Maurice Chevalier in
"The Love Parade". It has now only a games arcade and ground floor shops. Let's hope that they will find a better use for this historical building.
I am headed to the ruins of St. Paul's which is one of Macau's most popular tourist attractions and it looks like I am getting close.
I get off the main track for a bit to get away from the big crowd.
The Ruins of St.Paul's are the ruins of a 17th-century complex. It includes what was originally St.Paul's College and the Church of St.Paul also known as
"Mater Dei", a 17th-century Portuguese church dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle. Today, the ruins are one of Macau's best-known landmarks.
In 2005, they were officially listed as part of the Historic Centre of Macau, A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thank you, Wikipedia!
Halt! Attention! Remember for a moment the beautiful history of our country. He enters proudly and with his head held high because he is a soldier of that country.
I am now entering the Fortaleza do Monte which is Portuguese for Mount Fortress. Officially it is called Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora do Monte de São Paulo,
in English: Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount of St.Paul. They really had a talent for naming things elegantly :-D
lol I wonder if that was more Spanish accent than Portuguese ;-) At least I tried :-)
The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 metres tall Mount Hill. It was constructed to protect the properties of the Jesuits in Macau, especially from pirates.
Later, the Fortaleza was taken over by the Portuguese colonial governor and the relevant authorities for the defence of Macau.
I suspect selfies are being posted..... ;-)
It is best to give people space to do their photos ;-)
The Fortaleza occupies an area of roughly 8,000 square metres. 32 muzzle-loading cannons were placed around the fort's walls and the two
corners of the southeastern fort wall have watchtowers. The fort remained a restricted military area until 1965. It was then converted into a weather observatory
and was opened to the public. The observatory was relocated to Taipa in 1996 before it was demolished to make way for the Museum of Macau, which was
officially opened on 19th of April 1998.
