As we said, the school
is in this library
the library is open from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm
Therefore, Paolo Guerra, which is the library coordinator
gives us permission to use this space
when it is not open
This has been a great occasion for us
I say " for us" because this year we are really a lot
We are many volunteer teachers
Some trainees
And there are also some retired people
teachers and other people
retired too
And we all volunteer, we do it gladly
even if we always keep in mind that
this work should be done by institutions
let's say so...
But it is useless to argue because by the end
migrants NEED to learn Italian. What we do, and we are aware of that
Is an extremely important task
because the most important element for integration
is to know the language of the new
place of residence
We know that their life is difficult
and that's why we try to be flexible
both in the teaching method
and
in our effort of trying to understand
why some of them don't study at home
or why they can't regularly attend classes
but this is one of the the nice aspect of this job:
The flexibility that they require to us
and we necessarily need to find
this capability of being flexible
because it's a matter of receptiveness,
of understanding what they are asking, directly or indirectly
through their lives, and what we are able to give
as answer to their needs
The purpose of "Cittadini del Mondo" Association is to fight against
any form of discrimination
and social exclusion against immigrants
That's why it started a socio-sanitary help desk ten years ago
which is located inside the occupied building "Selam Palace"
in the Southern area of Rome
near Tor Vergata university
With this help desk, that is active
not only inside Selam Palace
but also inside
the "Cittadini del Mondo" library, every Wednesday and Saturday
morning
we offer the same services
aside from sanitary assistance.
But most of the people that comes for this services
has big problems in speaking Italian
they often need a job and that's why
the association decided to organize this Italian school
that helps them in the integration process
by helping them with the language and also
in communicating with the outside world

How did it go?
It went well
Last year there were a lot of Bengali students

I like the school in this library
Now I speak Italian... just a little..
what about last year?
Last year... last year I didn't understand nothing
This year I can understand a little
My name is Lourdes
I am from Batangas, Philippines
I've been living in Italy since march 2012
I'm here in Italy since four years now
I am a caregiver
I found out this course in an announcement
The teachers are great and kind
and my classmates are good and gentle too
I really like everyone there, my classmates and the teachers
I...
I am very
happy...because...
I get to know other people
I have many friends
we are always together
even the teachers
We are all learning Italian
It is very useful
for my job
here in Italy
Thank you
In the 8th of June students coming from more than 13 countries had a test for the Italian certification
22 of them had the A2 level exam
While 4 of them had the test for the B1 level
Each one of them succeeded in this test
We wish them good luck, hoping that now they may feel more at home than before
Thanks to their efforts and to the help of the volunteers that have been, and will be, by their side.
