Hello.
On behalf of the Center for Academic Technologies, welcome to CSU Monterey Bay!
At CAT you will find Instructional Designers, and Accessibility and Multimedia experts eager
to help you use the campus' wealth of technology to enhance your teaching, and your students'
learning.
All of us here at CAT have previously or currently teach at CSUMB, and so truly understand the
opportunities and challenges in transitioning to our wired university.
We will provide you with one-on-one support to quickly get you up and running during the
first few weeks...both in using the teaching workstations and projectors in our face-to-face
classrooms, and in getting your courses set up in iLearn, our online Learning Management
System.
CAT also provides a drop-in Learning Commons, just for faculty, where you can come, have
some tea, work on your classes, and get help as needed...including evening hours.
To get help or ask a question, email cat@csumb.edu, or call us at 831-582-4648, or drop by CAT
in Beach Hall - West (Building 21, next to the HR building).
We would love to hear from you.
So.... let's get you started.
To begin, go to CSUMB.edu.
Select "Login" and use your OtterID and password
If you do not know your OtterID, go to this link, which will be included in the description.
https://csumb.edu/it/accounts-and-passwords
Once you have logged into CSUMB.EDU, you will see your name at the top of the screen.
Click on your name and select "Dashboard" In this video, we will focus on the first
3 links in your dashboard: "iLearn," "CMS," and "Email."
iLearn/Moodle is our campus LMS (Learning Management System).
This is a password protected web space that allows you to communicate with your students,
post course materials, give quizzes, collect assignments, host forums, take attendance,
maintain a gradebook, and do just about anything you would expect from a virtual classroom.
On the front page of iLearn, you will find information on how to get free and discounted
software, including Virus protection, the Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia video editing
software, and Microsoft Office.
CMS is our Common Management System.
It is the HR portal where you will enter your emergency contact information, keep track
of paychecks, print out the official student rosters for your classes, and is where you
will submit final grades at the end of the term.
We are a Google Campus, so if you are familiar with Gmail, this will be an easy transition.
Your campus Gmail and Calendar accounts are where you will receive all official communication,
and scheduled meetings.
In addition, you and each of your students have access to the complete Google suite,
of collaborative tools, including a personal YouTube Channel, and a Google Drive of unlimited
capacity!
Please take time now to: * review the pre-orientation resources below
* complete the questionnaire, so we can better serve your needs
* schedule a one-on-one appointment, so we can begin helping you set up your classes.
Again, welcome to CSUMB.
We look forward to working with you!
