CSUMB Early Start Video 1: Early Start Campus Selection - Duration: 6:58.

Welcome to the video where we show you how to

make an Early Start Campus selection.

My name is Matthew Daines; I work in the office of Admissions.

First of all, log in to your CSUMB account.

If you don't know how to do that, feel free to call

the IT Help Desk at (831) 582 - HELP (4357).

Once in you're in your account, you will need to click on CMS.

Once you go to CMS, it will take you to your Student Center.

Your Student Center should look like this.

Now, your Student Center is where you'll complete a lot of things.

This is where you'll enroll.

This is where you can pay for classes.

This where you will what your Early Start status is.

Under admissions, click "Early Start".

This takes you to your Early Start Program Smart Page.

At the top, it gives a lot of information about the Early Start Program.

I want you to draw your attention to how this is separated into English and Math.

Let's first take a look at the English.

It mentions your EPT status.

It says, "Your remediation status is pending.

You must pass with a C or better for an approved senior year English course."

This means that we are waiting for your final transcripts to come.

Even students that are conditionally exempt, like this student here,

will still need to make an Early Start selection.

This student has the same status for Math.

We need you to click on a school.

You can find the schools that are offering the right Early Start course.

Click this link, here.

We want you to click on‚ "CSU campus".

Our office policy is that you complete your Early Start course at the CSU.

We are going to look at the English and Math courses offered at CSU Monterey Bay.

If you look below this, you can see that you also have the option to select hybrid,

which is online, and in person,

or you can look at only hybrid.

We're going to look at all the courses for CSUMB,

so we'll click here on the search bar.

This takes us to a whole page that looks at the courses listed for each school

and each section offered.

This is Monterey Bay; the subject is English.

It shows you the course title, the course section, the dates it's available,

the days of the week, the times, and how many units.

One thing that's very important to note is the description.

It will tell you if it's for CSUMB students only.

Under‚ "Remediation Outcome",

it says Early Start (ES) and ELM/EPT.

This is a course that can meet the requirements for Early Start and remediation.

When you see ELM and EPT, that means you can jump up a level of remediation with just one course.

That's typically for courses that are three or four units.

The Math course that we offer is for CSUMB students only.

If you have to take Early Start for Math, we want you to

take the course that starts Aug 15 through Aug 19.

You'll move in early, and complete this two semester class.

At the end of this class they'll give you another test, so you can possibly jump up

a level of remediation, if you pass the test.

Let's say you're from Fresno, let's do a new search

and look for courses offered in Fresno.

You know you're going to do the Early Start Math, because that's what CSUMB wants you to do.

For English, you're going to look locally to Fresno, because that's where

you live and that's where you'll be this summer.

Let's see what Fresno offers for their English sections.

We see here that they have an online course.

So, if you're going to be spending a considerable amount of your summer away from Fresno,

but you still want to take it through them, they offer an online course.

It also shows you that all of these classes offered for Early Start,

do not meet a level of remediation.

You'll at least be meeting the Early Start requirement, and it will prepare you for that at CSUMB.

Let's say you decide to take English at Fresno and those dates work for you.

Go back to your Smart Page, click on the "School" dropdown for other CSU's.

Select from the "Location" drop-down list which CSU you're going to take that course at.

You know you're going to do the Math Bootcamp that CSUMB offers.

Confirm your selections at the bottom of the page, by clicking "confirm early start selection(s)".

It summarizes it for you.

It says "You have indicated you will participate in the Early Start Program for English at

California State University, Fresno.

Your selection commits you to attending the Early Start Program at the specified campus

for the duration of the summer."

Similarly, for math.

It also shows that this student is "eligible for a CSU Early Start Program financial aid waiver."

This student is not "required to pay fees when you enroll an Early Start course at CSUMB."

Now, click on "confirm early start selection(s)."

You have now done what we've asked you to do, and you've done it by the deadline.

You've completed the first step in enrolling.

It will take three to five business days for Fresno to contact you,

for you to be able to register for the course.

In our next video, we will show you how to register for the Early Start course(s).

CSUMB Early Start Video 2: Course Registration - Duration: 5:19.

We're back to show you another video, and this video will show you how to

register for an Early Start course.

You should have already made an Early Start selection,

and three to five business days need to have passed,

before you attempt to register for the course.

First thing you'll need to do is log in.

Once you've logged in, it takes you to your dashboard.

You'll need to click on CMS.

CMS will take you to your Student Center.

This is Monte's Student Center, and Monte has already

registered for English Early Start course.

I want to show you how register for an Early Start Math course.

You can see that you have this "Enroll in Early Start" link.

That is because, three to five days ago, you went in and made your Early Start selection.

You would have selected CSUMB,

and that's how you get the "Enroll in Early Start" link.

Once you have this link, click on it, and it will take you to this page.

If you have a financial aid fee waiver, this message will come up.

"You are eligible for a CSU Early Start Program financial aid waiver.

You will not be required to pay fees when you enroll in an Early Start course at CSUMB."

If that fits your situation, you will have this

message come up, and you won't have to pay for your classes.

You can see that this student has already registered for this class.

We are going to search for another class.

We're going to select the subject.

For math, you want to select "ESMAT".

You're applying as an Undergraduate, select that, and then you can now search the courses.

Here are all of the math courses.

There are only two sections.

If you're attending CSUMB, we want you to attend

the course that starts on 08/15/2017.

This is also known as our Math Bootcamp.

It is section two, class number 30469.

I want to show you how to do it.

You will select the course that you want.

It shows you the dates, and times.

You won't need to put in a permission number. So, just go ahead and select "Next".

This means that this "ESMAT", we have both sections in our shopping cart.

This will sign us up for both.

You're going to click on "Finish Enrolling".

We have success!

We have two green checks, that means we've signed up for both classes.

You can go back to your Self-Service page and go to your Student Center.

You will see all the courses you've signed up for.

We signed up for both Early Start Math, you wouldn't need to do that.

This one is for the Math Bootcamp.

This section here is if you live in the local area,

and you're taking the class at CSUB over the summer.

That shows you how to register.

If you didn't have the financial aid fee waiver,

after 24 hours, you will see a bill here.

You can click on "make a payment", pay your bill,

and be signed up for the class.

One thing that's important for you to take note of, is,

if you are due to pay, make your payment by June 16th of this year.

Please make sure you do that, so you don't get dropped from your course.

Thank you for tuning in.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admissions

at 831-582- 3738.

Thanks.
