Waching daily May 27 2018

Hey, what's up! It's Chris from Brooker Films and in today's video I'm going to

show you how to shoot video with a blurry background. So, let's get into it!

Have you ever seen those videos where somebody is talking to the camera and

their background is completely blurry? Well, I'm going to show you how to

achieve this look in today's video and it's actually much easier than it

appears. You just need to understand a little bit about your camera's aperture

Aperture is basically a tiny hole in your camera lens that opens and closes

to let more or less light into your camera sensor. Now, the wider you open up

your aperture, the more light you will let into your camera and the brighter

the image will be. As well as letting more light into your camera sensor and

brightening your image, opening up your aperture also has an effect on your

depth of field. Now, depth the third refers to how much of your image is in

focus and how much of your image is completely blurry and completely out of

focus. Opening up your aperture will reduce your depth of field, meaning less

of your image is going to be in focus. But, this all sounds are really technical

and really confusing, so let me explain this a little bit further! Grab your

camera and adjust it to manual mode, find your aperture and pull it down to the

smallest possible number. Now, for this example you'll see that it is F1.8

Different lenses will have a different number at the very bottom. This lens is

F1.8 but a Canon 24-105mm lens only opens up to F4, so just try

and get to a number as small as you physically can. So now that we've opened

up our aperture as wide as we physically can, our image is potentially going to be

overexposed. So correctly expose the image by adjusting your shutter speed

and adjusting your ISO. If you're outside and your image is still too bright then

try throwing on an ND filter to darken your image a little bit further. So the

next step is to place a subject in front of the camera and adjust your focus ring

to ensure that they are in focus. When you're looking at somebody in real life

you naturally look at their eyes, so make sure that you adjust your focus to the

person's eyes in front of the camera to make sure that your image doesn't look

out of focus. Now, if you followed these settings correctly then your background

should now be blurry. If you really want to show off this effect, place your

subject in an open environment and not against a flat wall. Your background

will completely blur out and this is going to look really cinematic

and really cool. Just pay very close attention to your focus when you're

shooting at these settings. Shooting at a really wide aperture can blur your

background but if you're not careful and your talent is drifting then your

subject is also going to be out of focus, so just make sure that you're always

constantly watching your focus. If you enjoyed watching this video or if you
