Welcome to VCTV. Over the past couple of months we've had major graduations
overseas. At our Malaysian campus, we saw a record number of students graduating,
which was a great outcome, including 13 PhD students. I then went on to Mauritius
where we formalised our fourth international campus, Curtin Mauritius.
This builds on a very long-standing partnership with the Charles Telfair
Institute which has been offering Curtin degrees since 2004. The events to
celebrate the establishment of the campus coincided with our graduations in
Mauritius and there again we saw a record number of Curtin students
graduating in Mauritius. Back here on our Bentley campus, our Creative Quarter, a new
area that is essentially where all of our Humanities disciplines and areas are located,
has been formally opened and it's a great new space between the
buildings, very engaging for staff and students. In our School of Media, Creative
Arts and Social Inquiry, MCASI, opened a new state-of-the-art media
production studio which is fantastic for our students, students studying media,
studying TV, studying film production. I think they will really welcome and make
great use of the new space. The Honourable David Templeman State Minister for Arts
and Culture formally opened that new media production unit. We're at the
beginning of ranking season, so the first ranking has come out this year,
the Leiden ranking, that saw us improve our global ranking quite significantly, to now
being ranked on that ranking, ninth in Australia which is an excellent
outcome and is due to work of our staff right across this university.
And wonderful news that we've been celebrating this week, John Curtin
Distinguished Professor Kliti Grice was elected into the Australian Academy of Science.
This is an outstanding achievement and it is
richly deserved and it reflects her very strong research reputation both
nationally and internationally, so it's a great credit to Kliti and I certainly
congratulate her on this wonderful achievement.
