Hey! Welcome back! Today's video: my clothing line brand name.
Hey welcome back everyone! In today's video I want to make it very short but I want to explain
how I chose the name for my clothing line. So when I was looking for a name I
was looking for inspiration and I was trying to know how do people come up
with names for brands and there is something that a lot of people resort to
and I wasn't so comfortable with it that's to put together two words that
exist to make one word and I think it doesn't work for different reasons and
the first one would be if this word doesn't exist there is a reason. It's
very likely that the word that you're gonna come up with when you put two
words together it's gonna sound goofy it's gonna look weird and people are not
going to remember it the way you wish people will remember your brand's name. So
that was out for me. I didn't want to go this route, I didn't believe in it, I was
looking at other companies that did that and I was just not very happy with the
result. This is not what I want to do. So I was "OK I need to find a word that
exists, it can be in a different language but I wanna have a word that's got maybe
some kind of meaning, but there is a reasoning that word exist it goes
together". And the word that I chose is from American English slang and it's
YOKED, Y-O-K-E-D, right there, it's five letters, two syllables. It's very easy to
remember if you see it written somewhere you'll be able to be googling it or just
talk to friends about it, it's something that's gonna stick. I think it's pretty
catchy "YOKED" and I like the two syllables. The first one YO is greetings
the young generations, people would say Yo! and it's got - besides that - it's got
this round, friendly but strong sound to it, the YOKED I really like the YO.
It's - you know - it's something that gives a good warmth to the word and in the
second syllable KED, "YOKED" that very short K-E-D is very sharp and very precise. And I
like how you can make those two syllables starting the word with a very
friendly and round and strong sound and then to finish it with a sharp - you know -
cut at the end of the world and I like that so that's basically the reasons why I
chose that word and then talking to people about my brand for the year and a
half that I've been working on, I met, I think it's safe to say that I talked
about that brand to a hundred people, I think it's safe. Out of the hundred there
is only one person that knew what "YOKED" meant - the slang term - nobody else knew it
and I loved it when nobody knew what it meant I was like: "This is great, I'm gonna
be able to redefine the word! This is exactly what I want!" When Nike started 40
years ago, 50 years ago, nobody knew what Nike meant. I challenge
everybody who is watching my video right now to know what Nike means. Nike is a
goddess from Greek mythology and nobody knows. When you say "Nike" people feel oh
this is the sportswear brand, this is the sneakers, this is the t-shirts, this is
the shorts. That's what people know and the world knows that word now and
people didn't know it before. So that's kind of what I'm gonna do with YOKED. I'm
gonna redefine that word. When, like, 10 years from now, when people see YOKED
they won't think about muscular people, they will think about fitness, lifestyle,
well-being, exercising, comfortable, quality, colorful... you know everything
that I'm gonna put together for that brand over the years. So I was very happy
with that, very happy with the fact that people don't really know that word. And
I'm gonna be able to be the enabler for that word to be used, I guess again in
pop culture and this is gonna be a brand and not just "oh! that's a word and that
means that" it's like if you start your, like, your brand with "WOOD" or "BLACK" or it
means something and a lot of people I would say everybody knows what
it means. And it's really hard for you to make it something else, to make it another,
to make it of brand and not just an adjective or word that people know
before because they use it every day. Alright that's my little rant on the
words, how to choose them. This is how I did it for me. And from now we will talk
about the products. So, next video that I'm gonna release in two days I
will show my first sample reception I'm gonna unbox it, show everything, so you can
witness how it is that I built the clothing line.
I see you in the next video!
