An agenda is a vital part of a lesson and should be incorporated into all lessons. It helps the teacher to know what they are teaching and it helps the students by having them know what they will learn. I think we did a good job with our overview of our lesson, it was detailed and in the order of how we taught. It gave the students a sense of what their next 15mins were going to look like, that there was going to be a discussion and that they had a Kahoot to look forward to at the end.
We felt that it was important to summarize the previous changes so that they can make comparisons and connections and actually see the change more clearly. It helps the students to have a background in what we are going to talk about. That is why we briefly touched upon the previous changes that have happened with emotional development before the ages of 16 to 19 years of age. We could have improved this by adding a slide that focuses on the changes of the two time periods to get a better sense of the development.
We asked the class some reflection questions to have them think back and reflect on their emotional development. We could have done a better job with giving the directions for the guided practice, however I feel that we did a good job at working together to try to explain it. I read the thinking prompts while Julia explained them and gave them some help in how to start talking. Then we went around both taking one side of the room and listened in and discussed with the tables.
A closure is important in order to review and help the students learn the material. It is good to reinforce and help to remind the students of what we talked about because we brought up a lot of ideas. I feel that the closure was a good way to finish our lesson and that we did a good job at selecting the key ideas to mention again because that will help the students to actually learn and understand the material.
