Hopscotch Intro Video - Duration: 2:26.

Hi! I'm Joanna.

And I'm Matt.

Welcome to Hopscotch!

*Hopscotch!*

Hopscotch is a Youtube channel of animated educational songs.

As a second grade teacher, I look for ways to help my students really learn and apply the content,

...including songs and videos.

There are so many geared towards preschool,

but elementary school students need interaction just as much.

Last year our school tried to implement some research.

We tried an acronym; we tried posters; we tried actions.

But we really struggled to help kids understand what it means to internalize it,

even with the basics of memorizing it.

Matt and I were asked to write a song

to teach the students the same concepts.

With the song, it became a joy instead of a struggle.

It was catchy; it was fun, even so that on our announcements,

instead of reading it, kids would sing it, even as a solo,

which was fun.

The students learned it quickly, loved it, remembered it, and applied it.

We have since created songs to teach my students concepts of

math, social studies, writing, and science,

with equal success.
