Making your own baby food has its advantages
One thing is it exposes your baby to fresh flavors and fresh foods,
as well as you have the control over the ingredients that you use and the textures you get out of it.
Plus making homemade baby food can possibly save you some money
and it is just as nutritious, maybe a bit more as canned baby foods may lose a few nutrients through the canning process.

You really do not have to have a lot of high priced kitchen gadgets to make your own homemade baby food,
however, there are some items that may be helpful.
First off, the slow cooker. It's nice to make meat nice and tender as well as dried beans and
you have to think about adding protein into your baby's diet.
So the next item is either a food processor or blender, either works well.
It will puree the foods and get it to the right texture that you will need.
And it just makes things really, really simple.

The next thing is a steamer. You can have either an electric steamer or steamer basket
These will be nice to have to cook your produce, your fruits and vegetables
to get that nice, soft consistency without losing a lot of the nutrients.
Having a fork or potato masher can also be nice for those foods
such as an avocado or banana that require mashing without using a food processor or blender.
An ice cube tray will be really handy once your foods are cooked or pureed
you simply freeze them in an ice cube tray, which measures out a nice 1oz. portion for your baby.
Simply place in freezer to freeze solid.
You will also need freezer safe bags or containers to store the food in.
Make sure you do label and date those with the name of the item and the date you prepared it.

The first step to making baby food is selecting high-quality ingredients.
If you have your own home garden, that's great, you can use your produce from there,
but if not, going to the grocery store is perfectly fine as well.
It is really up to you if you want to use organic foods
as they may have a little less pesticide residue, but we do know that conventional food,
is just as high in nutrition as the organic.

It is best to use the produce as quickly as possible,
so right after you harvest it out of your own home garden or 1 to 2 days after you bring it home from the store,
as it will start to lose nutrients the longer that it sits.

Once you have your ingredients ready, you will want to make sure your kitchen is very clean.
The first thing you will want to do is wash all of your counter tops.
So just take a nice, clean rag and wipe down the countertops and
then after that, you will want to sanitize with a sanitizing solution.
That solution will actually kill any microorganisms that could be present.
