Hi everyone!
My name is Shruti Pandey.
I am doing my Master's in Business administration and work as a Graduate assistant for School
of Business at Oakland University.
I got an opportunity to help one of my professors in studying the Country of origin impact on
product assessment.
This is relatively an under-researched topic and I believe that this research will help
in understanding how consumers would make decisions when presented with choices of foreign
products.
Will they be biased towards brands they know about and be hesitant in choosing brands from
other countries?
And what factors drive their decision making process?
I was involved in designing a Cross-Cultural Questionnaire that consists of three different
brands of cars, smartphones and soft drinks from 5 countries like Germany, Italy, United
States, Japan and China.
I collected most of the information from databases available at OU library.
I would say, it was quite a challenge to find brands from these countries.
The brands had to be chosen in such a way that they are in similar price range and our
target group could relate to the products.
Also, care had to be taken to filter out brands that are defunct or have merged with brands
from other countries.
The survey designed using Qualtrics is with the Provost office right now for their approval.
Once approved, it will be made available first to OU students since we have a diverse group
studying here.
Working on this research has been a fun and interesting experience for me.
There are many brands, I wasn't aware of earlier.
The literature review helped me in understanding various methods used to study consumer behavior.
I will highly recommend every student to make use of the resources at OU library.
They have a rich collection of databases and articles to aid the research process.
Thank you for watching this video and good luck with your research!
