Hello I am Mike Brummer.

During this research, I am finding myself asking what is really important, ranking ourselves

based on test scores or should we pride ourselves with integrity and perseverance with our education

in classrooms.

Students on honor roll does not necessarily mean they scored high on the standardized

tests or vise versa, students who scored high on the test are listed on honor roll.

For example, my daughter was on the honor roll since 5th grade but was never offered

to be in the HAL- Higher Ability Learner because of her lower test scores.

I agree with Melissa Roy's findings about grade inflations, testing anxiety and that

the standardized tests such as ACT, SAT or state testing doesn't reflect many of

the school curricula.

Test scores only show a single point of students' real ability.

They do not reflect entirely on their overall talent or ability.

"Self-control is the short-term ability to resist temptations, and say, get your schoolwork

done; grit is what takes you to the distance", (Del Giudice, 2014) and "self discipline

has long lasting and important effects", (Mary, 2008), these two statements supports

my philosophy that every students need to have passion about education to appreciate

learning new things.

As an educator, administrator, or any education professional, we must do our best to prepare

our students to appreciate their own talents, their own abilities, and their own view on

the world around them.

Gunzlemann (2005) stated that "Traditional testing is, at best, a selection of test items,

which may or may not be relevant to the curriculum to which the student has been exposed and

is always subject to many forms of bias, including cultural, gender, socioeconomic and learning-preference

bias."

We MUST appreciate our students' uniqueness and allow room for them to grow their talents

and abilities.
