Waching daily Dec 5 2017

Hi, I'm Sumin.

I am a sophomore studying at UW-Madison.

I'm majoring in biochemistry and getting certificates in gender studies and global

health.

And I'm starting this channel as a way to share my experiences with you guys about being

an undergrad student here at Madison.

And hopefully this helps you if you're deciding whether to apply or commit to this institution.

And if you have any more questions after this video is done, then you can leave it in the

comments below and I'll try to get back to you guys as fast as possible.

To start off this video, I'm gonna share some facts about UW.

We are often ranked as one of the top public universities in the nation, and maybe it's

because of that, but, we have over 40,000 students studying here, and that does sound

overwhelming at first, but there are so many organizations and teachers and mentors that

are willing to help you and navigate through this institution.

And you'll have no trouble finding one that perfectly fits your needs.

A lot of us decide to come here for undergrad because of the name and the size of the research

institution.

I was really lucky last year to land a paid internship at a biochemistry lab, and there

are so many professors and labs that are willing to take undergrad students in, and if you're

thinking about going into graduate level studies, then this institution will definitely set

you up well for that.

My experiences with the social aspect here at UW has generally been positive.

And if you guys didn't know we are ranked as the number one party school.

And I'm not sure how you feel about that, but the vibe here is definitely party oriented

on the weekends.

But it's not like everyone pressures you to participate in that culture either, so

it's not toxic at all like you would expect.

Everyone respects each other's decisions, and people generally know that everyone likes

to have fun in different ways.

UW may be yet another typical college at yet another typical town to you.

It was for me too.

But like any new experience, you start with some skepticism, but you try new things, meet

new people, and learn amazing things about yourself and the world around you.

UW is about all of those things but maybe with a little more alcohol and snow.

I hope you're ready to be a part of the most passionate group of people, whether that's

about football or social issues, and stick with us through the end of an extraordinary

period.

This is the Wisconsin experience, and get ready to live yours.

Amanda Talks Video With Andrew & Pete - Duration: 5:36.

It's just about getting started isn't it? Yes the more you do the better you're

going to get at it and I think everyone's got to get through that kind

of awkward phase of oh my god I'm so uncomfortable and I look so uncomfortable.

Hello today I'm here with Andrew and Pete who live in Newcastle which is, yes

I do, one of my favorite spots because I was

in college there .I had many a good night out in Newcastle but more

importantly there's gonna be a Go Do Video workshop going on in Newcastle and

I want to talk to you guys because you're so good on YouTube and I think

when I first started watching you it was quite basic and you've got so good

overtime so I would was really hoping you might share some of the things that

have made you successful on YouTube. Yeah we haven't really thought about

this in the past really, I think one of the key things is probably consistency

it's been key for us I think with any type of content but specifically video

it's not something that you just automatically good at and even like our

YouTube channel, people think when we started video is when we started our

YouTube channel and that's not in fact true, like we've been doing video for

years now in various kind of different formats and it's just

about getting started isn't it? Yes the more you do the better you're going

to get at it and I think everyone's got to get through that kind of awkward

phase of oh my god I'm so uncomfortable and I look so uncomfortable on camera yeah

We used to get uncomfortable on camera. Like... Hi

Well I think the difference between the thing that shocks us the most is the

difference between just blogging every week to producing a video every week

like instantly we got more subscribers email subscribers sales requests for

speaking interview requests things like that and like the difference was instant

and I think it's because people can see you so I'm very very happy that we

switched to video but my biggest regret was not doing it sooner. Yeah that makes

sense I wish we had started doing it properly

about 10 years ago because we've only really been doing it just over a

year now consistently so it seems like we've been doing it for ages but actually

it hasn't been that long to see the results in like the space of a year is kind of

incredible. So your key message then is don't waste time thinking about it just

so people should Go Do Video? Exactly, that's a handy little link.

You know what also helps is we send a traffic to our videos. It helps,

so if you just put up videos and don't get any traffic to them then they're not

gonna do much for you, a lot of people just rely on YouTube.

Do you send people to YouTube rather than your blog posts

is that what you do? Mm-hmm

so like we're creating videos to rank in search, not all the time but some of the

time and we are obviously promoting them on social media but like one of our

biggest things is using our email list. So I think a lot of people do email

marketing and they just constantly send in sales message after sales message

after sales message. Well we send every bit of useful information we create on our

YouTube channel to our email list as well, yeah I think that really warmed up

your subscriber base. I think also the first 48 hours of your YouTube video is

crucial so if you get a really good retention rate, engagement rate and if

you get if you get in traffic to that that's going to give it a really good

board to kind of leapfrog over and push it into the results of search so if it

doesn't get a good 48 hours it's gonna be tough for it to rank in search

so yes we are actually sending the traffic in that first 48 hours mainly to

the YouTube video not the blog post. Yeah but then afterwards we will send from

social media Iikw on going posts and that will link people to the embedded YouTube

video on our blog because then obviously that gives us a better return from

people come in to our blog and then download and stuff. You get a

lot more comments, like if you look at our posts on our blog we don't have that

many comments at all all the conversations going on

on the actual YouTube video. So that's why we're actually sending people

that interesting okay I will be quizzing you

more on that on the, looks at the date as if she could forget, it this Thursday

the seventh of December I'm just really looking forward to being back in

Newcastle and obviously looking forward to the workshop as well. Thanks again for

that. We'll see you all there guys and let's

go and recreate some of Amanda's uni nights after the workshop, Oh get the

glow sticks out! Okay good to see you thanks
