I want George Clooney for my videos.
I mean, there must be a SECRET to presenting like that on camera otherwise everyone would
be doing it.
Right?
Right.
There is a secret but it's not the ONE thing that knocks everything out of the ball park.
I'm afraid, there is no magic pill, silver bullet, or golden key.
And it has absolutely nothing to do with WHAT you say on camera, I promise.

The secret is simple.
It's the secret that the really popular kids at school or true leaders... well, do they
know it?
Probably not.
They probably don't know it but they just do it because they are it.
But we know we know the secret.
So, here is the secret, in a nutshell: They really LIKE other people.
They SMILE a lot, a lot more than others, and their smile is authentic.
And they create TRUST by looking people straight in the eye.
That's the secret.
And that's how we have to present on camera for our videos to be really successful.
How does this help us?
Well, it gives us two immediate take-aways: First of all, speak DIRECTLY to the viewer.
Speak to the real person.
And SMILE.
Not a fake smile, like that, but it has to be an authentic smile.
And, of course, it helps if you really like other people.
By the way, this is also the key that helps us unlock lots of other tips about presenting
to camera and way beyond that.
For instance, in my A to Z of Video for Professional Services I keep emphasising that we have to
add value our viewers.
Liking people makes it a lot easier, doesn't it?
And it also makes it a lot easier to be interestED in your audience rather than just being interestING.
Let me give you more presenting tips.
Face your audience, and speak to the person right behind the camera.
Speak with confidence.
When you speak with energy and full of passion for your topic, your confidence will come
across.
Don't slouch.
Stand up straight.
I personally prefer to stand but it's fine if you want to sit.
Just sit up straight.
It gives you a lot more energy.
Look your very best and overact.
I know, it sounds odd but it's true.
Check in the mirror that your hair is in place and your clothes sit right.
Gesticulate.
Move your hands but don't flap about.
Don't drone.
Speak clearly, really clearly.
Modulate your voice, and watch your pace.
150 words per minute would be just about fine.
Don't script and don't use a teleprompter.
If you really have to note down what you want to say, use bullet points.
Refer to them just beforehand and then speak freely to camera.
That way you really engage with your audience.
And practice, practice, practice.
I know, it sounds like it requires a lot of attention to detail.
But I assure you once you get the hang of it, it becomes a lot easier, and eventually
it'll be second nature.
And then, George will have nothing on you.
Thank you for watching.
